Jabari has been fine but specifically With the shooting, I’m wondering if the added weight and muscle mass has affected his accuracy? I think it will get better as we go this season. I would still love to add a star 3 or 4. He might still be a couple years away.
I've been saying this for awhile now but Jabari does not deserve to start and his shooting in his "3&D" is actively hurting us. We'll eventually need to make a trade for a solid stretch 4 if we're serious about contending.
That about sums it up. Just want to add that there is no one else who I want to see less of at the end of a game. His severe lack of confidence is going to cost us many games at the free throw line and anywhere else he shoots with any game on the line. Rockets need to trade him while he still has name value.
Jabari needs more catch and shoot opportunities in order to get into a rhythm. FVV and Sengun should pass him the ball. Jabari does need to let his shots fly, without overthinking.
He has been pretty disappointing offensively. His shooting at his position was supposed to really unlock things. Feels like Jabari doesn't want to catch and shoot 3s but sees himself doing more. Wish he would just get his 3pt shot right before trying to expand his offensive game.
Jabari's game reminds me so much of the late Eddie Griffin. High draft pick with big expectations coming out of college Supposed to be a good/great shooter with plus defense Once in the league, jumper from NBA range looks really flat and results are maddeningly inconsistent Doesn't have any pace - rushes around and jacks up shots with no feel Pretty good defense but inconsistent rebounder for size Fans constantly left wanting
Jabari is Dale Ellis when he was in Dallas - just didn't fit, but once he got to Seattle and they ran an offense that fit him he blew up. That will happen with Jabari too. This offense is terrible for his game and skills. DD
Ime's offense does not forcé múltiply any offensive archetype. Ignoring the fact that Bari cannot hit an open look with any level of consistency, it is strange he is not getting the opportunites as he was a top three pick. Even Amen is getting opportunites to make an impact on offense, and being put in roles to do so. Amen is not even ready or equipped to have that usage, but there is still an emphasis to give him the reps like playing point guard. Bari on the other hand, appears to be an afterthought like his development is less important than the other high draft picks. Still Bari needs to do more with what he is given, but I would like to see more integration of Bari in the "offense." -Thrilla
What kind of offense do you think would fit him? I'm curious because I can't really envision any offense where he would blow up.
What skills are those? The guy passes up open 3s and opts for his sad sack mid range dribble penetration - what NBA team is going to design an offense around him lol Like you said many times the guy's a role player who will give you exactly what you'd expect at this point. Not much offense, ok defense, that's it I'm honestly tired of talking about him, but Ime somehow thinks he's gotta play 35 mpg. So I guess we have to.
Respectfully disagree. I'd say he gets plenty of opportunities for a guy who shoots as unreliably as he does. It's year three as a full time starter...at some point you have to earn more shots by making the ones you get. Which leads to my next point... If we look at every three pointer Jabari has taken since November 2021, including college, summer league, preseason, and regular season, he's only made 34.7% of his 1,055 attempts. His 42% on 188 attempts in college accounts for just 17.8% of that sample, and those shots were from a shorter line. In other words, the preponderance of evidence suggests that he might actually just be a bad three point shooter and we shouldn't be wasting possessions feeding him shots he's highly likely to brick.
That is the thing with developing 7 guys, you got to have 2-4 guys that you prefer over others, trust over others. Even the Thunder let guys go that are pedestrian but will look better elsewhere ......Tre Mann, Giddey, Micic, Keyontae Johnson, Lindy Waters. You cannot develop everyone.
He would need to be running around through backdoor screens for shots ala Reggie Miller - but when he runs here in Houston he gets in the way of the ISO.... DD
Lol what about Jabari Smith Jr has made you think he's a movement shooter all of a sudden? There's literally no sample of this from his NBA career. And by that I mean no detectable sample at all Stats.nba.com records play type / off screen for all players who attempt at least 10 FG off screen in a season - Jabari Smith does not appear this year ..or last year...or his first year. There's nothing about him eye test wise to make us believe he's a good movement shooter - the whole idea of Jabari Smith (if he were as good as his draft board eval) was that he's tall enough to shoot over people Durant style rather than have to dribble or use screens to create space (which he's not quick enough to do anyway)
Dear Jabari, You no doubt hustle and play defense n crash the boards which is the Ime recipe to stay on the court.... Now for the love of the game.... Stop overthinking and Take the open 3 (catch n fire)...... Stop trying to be KD off the bounce......you were drafted to be 3pt sniper/defensive type.....When your handle reaches KD/G Hill or even R Lewis level, then you showcase that aspect but for now Just go to block on mismatch, one or two dribbles (or none) and turn n fire away Those are the only shots you should take in rhythm n flow of O..... Unless shot clocking running down and you have to let it fly from wherever Sincerely, All the Houstonian Texians
