10 years ago? Probably. Now? The amount of skilled #1 quality guys in the league has never been higher. Last year Bam Adebayo is probably the only role player type to make it. He is a 5x All Defense defender at C who also puts in 20 game and runs the offense from the high post and gets a bunch of assists. If Jabari could do that sure - he'd have a shot but he is way below that level in terms of passing and I don't ever see him with all Defense/DPOY - he's just not quick enough, can't change direction etc. There was a play last night where he was trying to run off a shooter and the guy simply side stepped, no need even for a pump fake, and Jabari saw and could only turn his head and watch as his gangly pile of limbs continued to his right as the jazzman leisurely dribbled to his left. That's the kind of play the all defense level types (Draymond, Dillon Brooks, Wemby due to his quick telescoping limbs) seem to be able to recover from and contest.
I'd also consider Jrue and JJJ to be "elite roleplayer" types. In 2022, there were a lot of guys in that vicinity--Gobert, Allen, Wiggins, Middleton. I agree the league is deeper, but the pace and number of three pointers are also higher, so a lot of guys look better than their historical counterparts. It's all semantics anyway. I think we are largely in agreement, he will probably never be a take over the game guy, a run your offense through him almost every time guy. And to even be around the level of some of the above mentioned players, he has a lot of work to do. But he's only 20. There's plenty of time.
