Joe Johnson no injuries>Kevin Martin injuries every year to go along with Yao just begs for anoither Tmac and Yao situation.
My choice is JJ and its simple. Remember the last time Houston's best 2 players had injury history? No. Sorry. The gambling odds are too great that at least one will be out of action by playoff time 2011. Perhaps both.
IF the money is equal I'd take Joe simply for the injury concerns with Martin. I don't think I'd pay him close to max money though.
Don't be homers people. Martin is not a star. Still must prove it, and before you answer this: it's not about numbers. Martin's efficiency drops markedly when the game gets hard, winner teams need to be specially effective at those moments. Johnson is also a better playmaker and a better defender, all in all, a tougher player, more experienced and more reliable... Not as 1st reference (superstar), but along the years has shown level to be a legit 2nd option. ... (And I like Martin.)
Is this statement based on facts or your casual observation? A declaration such as this ought to be accompanied with something to back it up. I will stay with Martin. His injuries are not recurring, he's more efficient, he's younger, and he's cheaper.
why not keep K-Mart and trade for Igudala? with Tuner and Nocioni on board, Philly is obviously looking to trade AI. we can keep Martin and get what you want from JJ in AI: play making/defense/size/big name/... I think an expiring contract + maybe Hill OR Ariza will do it. and we'd still got plenty of assets to go after Bosh or Jefferson.
Iguodala's contract. Martin makes $36 million over the next 3 seasons. Iguodala makes $56.5 million over the next four seasons. (season 4 is a player's option, which he will exercise). Damn! I like the guy, but not paying out that kind of cash, when it's not a position of need. If paying Johnson something between Martin and Iguodala nabbed us Bosh, then I can see that, and it's Alexander's money.
Mmm sorry, just the sentations for what I've seen this season, alongside those of some Kings fans, but I'd bet they have also a statistical analysis that supports it. And I repeat, I like Martin, but currently he has some significant gaps in this aspect of the game that must improve before being considered a legit 2nd option for a contender.
I don't think he's worth the max, thus my post. You could have left out the "roll-eyes," which merely makes you look like you hadn't anything worthwhile to add. Actually reading my post might have been helpful. I was addressing your post. I don't think either one is worth paying the max for. While Iguodala's contract may not be for the max, it is certainly ballpark.
Martin has his weaknesses which have already been pointed out plus an injury history, but I would rather get another backup if Taylor doesn't improve instead of giving the max to Johnson. JJ is a better passer, defender and is healthier. He is older though, and let the Hawks down in the playoffs. We will get stuck with him. Kevin is cheaper, younger and will be easier to move,if he doesn't pan out.
Ariza will be fine at the wing, especially with Yao coming back. Hear me out...... Ariza will be able to take more chances defensively. With Yao posing as a shot blocking threat, he can be more aggressive thus creating more turnovers. He has shown with his length, he can be a very pesky defender. He also has very good size and speed for a wing player. Ariza will have more open looks from the arc, a la Shane and his corner 3 back when Yao was commanding double teams. Yao is a very underrated passer, and Trevor has shown his inability to create his own shot. However, Ariza thrived in L.A. when he had a star commanding the attention and finding him open at the arc. I know his shooting percentages were down last year, but it seems he shot much better in L.A. I personally think he put a lot of pressure on himself for the first half of season trying to be the guy, since we did not really have a go to guy. As Aaron emerged as the guy and Trevor learned Rick's offense, he started to play much better. I, for one, am interested to see how much Yao helps his game. He also has a very favorable contract for his position. If we go out and get JJ via a sign and trade, we lose our depth and end up paying a lot more contract wise. I don't think the trade-off would be that advantageous. I would take Trevor's D over JJ's any day.....especially if it means we lose Kmart in the process. Not to mention, Trevor has shown his abilities to hit a clutch shot in the playoffs (L.A., obviously), where as JJ has kind of puckered up in the playoffs. Personally, if it takes JJ to lure Bosh.....I say no thanks. Just bring in a backup C with some size and grit, and I think we will be playoff bound. May be crazy, but this is why I am just a fan and not a GM.
I am sure that Ariza deserves more respect than he gets on this board, including from me. Still, we have to upgrade somewhere, and I think SF can bear more improvement than any other position, though some think PF. Really, though, I think we are looking at Bosh and Joe Johnson as FAs more because they are available, than that they play positions where we need the most improvement.
I definitely understand the aspect of upgrading, but those two would have to be acquired via sign and trade at the expense of losing our SG or PG. This is the reason for my skepticism. Are those two worth breaking up the depth?? At least we have a good GM that knows what he's doing. I used to be a big Joe Johnson fan, I just see too much T-Mac in him. He gets that look sometimes like he doesn't care (completely baseless, I know). I see us getting stuck with a bad contract that may help now, but will hurt us in the future.......because he was "available." Bosh just seems like a Diva. We have already had one of those from Toronto, it did not work out too well......... That being said, I understand the upgrade aspect of this because it would give Rick a lot of options. Bosh could start at PF. When Yao needs rest: Scola can come in to play PF, Bosh moves to C and allows us to run the floor.
