You completely missed the point of that song. He's not talking about himself. He's focusing on social issues. In the song, the story he tells deals with an individual explaining to his significant other that he would never abandon her and walkout on his family like his father did. However, when confronted with the same situation, he begins contemplating that as an option. Thus, in this track, J. Cole himself is asking for males who father children to take accountability for their actions and "grow up" as you say. So the song is asking for the same things that you're criticizing J. Cole for.

well people are talking about him in this thread right now eh?

how often do rappers get their own thread in a non-music forum? compare that number to the amount of rappers overall and you can see how the strategy works.

I highly doubt his intention was to make all those fanboys on Cluctchfans start discussing his album and some innocuous "diss" at Battier. I bet you he probably doesn't even remember Battier was a Rockets player.

No sir!!!... A great deal of blacks hated Duke from the UNLV days...Then hated them even more when Mashburn-led Kentucky lost on the fluke...You and I both know, we could care less who came from Duke because of those instances...

OK why would I extend my opinionated research to some blacks living in Taiwan, Pakistan, or North Carolina??... It depends where and when you take this mental survey...Did I care for Battier at Duke or anywhere else pre-Rockets uni, Hell no!!... Do I think black people were biased of Battier while at Duke, absolutely... I didnt hate him at Duke, but I can say that he wasnt who I would say represented the urban black community, while there... And for that matter , I still dont!!!... I think he's a great role model and great person, but not someone I would pay attention to off the court... I would follow any of the Fab Five on twitter if I was into Twitter... Because I could relate more to them just by how they act or carry themselves(swag)..

He didn't say Shane wasn't any good.

    He called him "Lame".

    ....Shane is lame.

WTF is going on this thread? It went from the mention in J Cole's song to people b****ing back and forth on hip-hop to "Is Shane black enough" talk.

Bruh, read my post again. I never said to extend your "opinionated" research to other countries. (FYI, I've never heard of black Taiwanese or Pakistani people but what do I know?) What I did say was that there are different types of black people in the USA so one may want to specify if they're talking about A.Americans or blacks from the Carribean, various African countries or England, or just all blacks in general.
Of course Shane didn't represent the Urban black community. If that's your point(Key word being Urban) then yes you're right. If you meant the black community as a whole then I'd think that'd be open to debate.

You could say the same thing about Grant Hill when he was at Duke. I think things changed a little when he got to Detroit but he still wasn't as highly regarded among "urban" fans like an Iverson or any of the fab 5.

I don't see a debate about "if Shane is black enough"? Where did you see that?

That's just so misguided it makes you look stupid. The guy isn't putting on airs or trying to be who he isn't. He made a simple statement. I didn't see any internet tough guy posing, bad language, etc yet you figure the picture was appropriate? Or do you think he's a young white kid faking the funk???

The guy is making a fool out of himself after spewing that Battier is not "black enough" for him.
