So you're shifting the criteria from "system" (aka coaching/scheme) to "surrounded by talent"?

Sorry, but Schaub produced the 6th best passing season of all time last year with his only above average offensive weapon being Andre Johnson... while OD was only available half the year, and *zero* running game.

I don't buy your argument one bit.

I'm perplexed that a participant on Around the Horn would make a bombastic statement that didn't, upon closer examination, seem to be validated by the available facts.

What are we coming to? A sad, sad day. :(

Kevin walter was pretty good last year so were the TE. I am not going to say he is a scrub, but he isn't a franchise player.

Really dont need you to buy nothin..System QB(to me) would be folks like Cassell, Ryan, Flacco, Schaub ...Maybe my opinion of Schaub is different than yours..But We both agree that so far he is a good solid QB...Damn I thought DD was objective..

Walter's last two seasons have been disappointing. 2008 was his really good year,...

Fitzpatrick is just okay. He's a good stop-gap quarterback. If the Bills were wise in the draft, and I'm sorry, but they've proven not to be in the past, they would draft Colin Kaepernick in the second round and have him sit under Fitzpatrick for a year.

Dude, that's *every* QB. Your argument sounds like Schaub should be able to line up alone and beat eleven guys like some kind of Disney movie.

Errm, nope. And I rate PManning higher than most folks do (I have him ahead of Brady and anyone else in the NFL right now), but his WR class was *not* garbage. Not even close.

Wrong again. Great offensive line, and (oh by the way) a great system.

    Nope.

Nope again. All these guys have a strong supporting cast around them and a good system in which they play. PManning, for example, has had liek two offensive coordinators his entire career. Don't you think that that kind of consistency in what's expected has helped him reach the elite levels he has?

Then give Schaub credit for last year: 5000+ yards with his star tight end out, his #2 having a bit of a down year, and fill-in scrubs outside of AJ. Much like the argument you just tried to make for the others.

And I don't mean to say Schaub is on the level of the other guys you mention, because that'd be insane. My only point is, they couldn't do what they do without their other 10 guys, either. Absolutely not.

I won't call KW a pro-bowler, but beyond this I agree with you (except last year when he seemed to disappear, and I wonder how much Dennison's different scheme wrt routes has to do with that). But like someone else said, 2008 was his best year and he hasn't really approached that since.

To a lot of folks, "system qb" is a guy who'd be an Orlovskyesque scrub anywhere but where he's at. Perhaps that not what you meant to imply. But Schaub, based on his production everywhere he's been, is not a "system qb" in that sense. Not at all.

Matt Schaub 2009-01 = Matt Hasselbeck circa 2002-05.

javal - independent of anyone's opinion of Schaub for a moment: Throwing around empty, meaningless cliches like this is the crux of our issue, not the validity of your opinion of Schaub. I certainly think you can make a valid "anti" Schaub case (not a strong case, mind you - but a case) - but you've got to come up with something better than this. They ALL need a system, they ALL need the right offense around them, etc.

It's possible Manning elevates them a bit (he's very good, obviously) - but those are not garbage receivers. Reggie Wayne is a top 5 wide receiver in football, Dallas Clark is a top 5 tight end, and there's no reason to suspect Garcon, Collie, et al, are simply Manning products - they seem pretty doggone talented. Now their running game.........

Schaub is master of the prevent defense ...Most big games he's had have been when we are behind big and forced to pass ...But again I like the dude ...He's one of the best come from behind , but give it up at the end, Qbs of the this generation...I like him but obviously not as much as some of yall....And I respect that!!!(for now)

So you're saying that defenses know he's going to have to pass, and still can't stop him from scoring? What a hoss!

These lists are ridiculous. I have Schaub at 7. Would not take E Manning, Romo, Flacco, or Ryan over him. Actually I wouldn't even take Big Ben over him. As soon as Schaub performs in the playoffs, his name will move up.

As for Disney Sports and adande, most of their experts are idiots when it comes to non popular teams. They're like a bunch of high school cheerleaders jocking the football players.

The only shows I watch on there is PTI and NFL Live.

Don't make ridiculous statements. You cannot throw for 300 yards against a prevent defense.

the show was better when kellerman first started it but I have to admit I like it a lot better now than PTI, i'm burnt out on tony and wilbon
