More talented? Since when does "talent" automatically equate to better, the term you used? If it did, Jeff George and Ryan Leaf would be having their busts bronzed for Canton.
Uh, yes. I'm not sure I'd roll with Josh Freeman, either. In 2010 only. Schaub 63.6 COMP % 4370 YARDS 24 TD 12 INT Freeman 61.4 COMP % 3451 YARDS 25 TD 6 INT That isn't exactly a huge difference. And Freeman has only had *one* good year, a year in which he wasn't asked to do nearly as much as Schaub. Schaub, meanwhile, has a down year by his standards, and still produced pretty damn well. If you take Matt's history and body of work into mind, Freeman comes up a little short in comparison, IMO. You seem to have a very short and selective memory when it comes to Matt... I wonder why. As for Cutler, it isn't even close. One QB who does deserve a mention in that 2nd tier is Garrard though, he always seems to get overlooked... and I want to mention Carson Palmer too, but he might not ever get back into the 2nd tier while in Cincy.
[rquoter]You must spread some Reputation around before giving it to DonnyMost again.[/rquoter]Nailed it.
Supporter of Schaub but after watching some games this season it seems like he struggles against the more talented teams and the games we really need to win.... He failed to show up against IndyX2 this year, the team you HAVE to beat if you are going to do anything in the division. Struggled against Dallas,NY,San Diego,Baltimore. All quality teams that an elite QB should be able to perform against. Hes a good QB but it seems like him and the rest of the Texans under perform against playoff caliber teams. He like the rest of the team likes to play great one half, and terrible the other.
When Indy is as weak against the run as they are, you don't want Schaub gunning all over the place. He didn't play well, but he didn't lose them the game either. Colts game 1: 9 of 17 107 yards 1 td 1 int result: win Colts game 2: 22 of 38 201 yards 1 td 1 int result: loss Largely similar performances in terms of yards per attempt, comp %, and td-int... two very different outcomes. Thank Kubiak for that first, Matt second. He played like hot dog crap against the Cowboys, as did the entire rest of the team. The Giants and Chargers have amazing pass Ds, so I'm a little more forgiving there, but the Chargers game in particular was not a loss on Matt's shoulders nearly as much as the Giants game was. And the Ravens game as well, Matt was the only reason we were even in that game at all... so if you want to blame somebody for that loss, he should be pretty far down your list. But Matt isn't an "elite" QB. Hell, even elite QBs had trouble against teams like the Giants and Chargers. He's a solid top 10 guy though.
I think kubiak deserves a lot of credit for the system. If he was in GB he would get killed with their line. Also every time he throws it deep his wr has to run back to catch the ball. I think you could replace him with a guy like pennington if he wasn't always hurt and we would be ok.
Green Bay has a bad offensive line? The superbowl champs? Huh? Houston was 12th this year in sacks given up, GB was 19. While GB was 11th in QB hits, and Houston was 19th. So actually, Schaub got pressued MORE than Rodgers. As far as Schaub's deep ball, I heard Charlie on 790 say a few weeks back that Schaub has the 6th best completion percentage for passes over 30 yards in the NFL. Take that how you want.
Rodgers didnt have a lot of credit, till this season, winning his first playoff game, and then winning the SB. So till Schaub makes something big, he will get credited by the media. But I think he got a little credit, at the beginning of the season some people in NFL network saying that they would make the playoffs, but didnt get it. Schaub is getting stats, and I like him. I hope he gets in the playoffs soon.
In 2010 only. Schaub 63.6 COMP % 4370 YARDS 24 TD 12 INT Age: 29 Rushing: 28 yards on 22 attempts Best receiver: Andre Johnson Freeman 61.4 COMP % 3451 YARDS 25 TD 6 INT Age: 23 Rushing: 364 yards on 68 attempts Best receiver: Mike Williams (R) Hard to say that Schaub had a better year, and really hard to say you would rather have him in the future.
The top 8 are pretty obvious. Brady Manning Brees Rivers Rodgers Burgerface Vick Ryan But you'd have to put 2 guys ahead of Matt out of this group to put him any lower than 10. Schaub Palmer Freeman Garrard Cassel Flacco Cutler EManning Orton Which 2 do you rate higher than Matt and why?
"and goodbye"? I mean, I personally have him outside of the top 10, too, but you're not going to hang around and discuss it?
I would argue neither Vick nor Ryan are "obvious" top 8. Vick was certainly top 8 this past year but let's see if the league catches up to him in 2011. Ryan has had one elite year, statistically. And it wasn't better than what most would call a "down" year for Schaub. Swap ‘em, and I don’t think Atlanta’s win total suffers at all. In fact, I personally think there are only three elite QBs in football: Manning, Brady and now Rodgers. If you want to argue Brees belongs among the “elite,” I probably wouldn’t object though I think he’s ever-so-slightly overrated (in terms of elite-ness). After that, it’s pretty wide open, IMO, and Scahub certainly deserves to be in the conversation. I’m very curious to see what a competent defense could mean for this offense.
That is the same argument I use against Freeman, but while they both have only had one good year, Vick's season was other worldly. So I'm a little more apt to knock Freeman below Schaub than I am Vick or Ryan. For the sake of argument though, I'm framing this discussion as anti-Schaub as possible to give him the benefit of the doubt when it comes to proving his point, as I don't take major issue with anyone liking Ryan/Vick over Matt right now. Ryan's team has seen more success, and while I am the biggest proponent of the philosophy that teams share the burden for wins/losses, it does count a little bit in his favor over Matt. Ryan has had the benefit of a better team though, no doubt. But Ryan's rise hasn't exactly surprised anybody, he has shown stready progress, unlike Freeman, who kinda bust in outta nowhere. So I think he may be here to stay in the 2nd tier.
Schaub is a great system QB which isnt a bad thing...Schaub is a top 5 QB 8 outta 16 games ...But I am happy we got him as opposed to our previous QB's..Schaub fits our system perfectly...I think he should have more freedom with audibles though..That way we can see if he is a great game manager/leader as opposed to a great stat guy
What is telling that Matt Schaub is a top 10 QB, is that after you mention 8 names, it gets highly debatable to put anyone else in front of him. . .
