If Nix were in the draft this year, it would be Ivey and Nix......... So, I don't think we are REALLY considering Ivey at all. DD
No debate that they were hyped. I am just saying I think nix is hyped based on reel much like some of the successes we have had in gleague. Matthews was someone they you knew was going to be a flash in the pan
The answer to this is pretty simple. We don't draft based on need and the front office prefers to lose as much as possible, so it all doesn't really matter. We'll pick the best player even if we have 5 players at that position, yes and even if not everyone agrees with that mindset. We know that's how the front office drafts.
They view Nix as a lottery pick because of the growth shown from year 1 to year 2 in g league. This was directly reported by Feigen. Nix right now also on the 'hinkie special'. Cheaper than the 3rd pick rookie contract if Rockets pick Ivey. As far as archetype: Nix is the distributor mold and Ivey a slasher. If Stone and the scouting department truly feels Ivey is the guy. You pick him , regardless of anyone else.
still true. he's another classic scrub cf's overrates to a laughable level because this team is starving that much for some kind of talent.
No you don't because we have 1 ball, and we don't need another ball dominant player to take it away from Jalen. DD
Nix is a serviceable 20-year-old backup point. Glad he's on the roster. The real question isn't Ivey. It's whether we slightly overpay Portland for that #7 pick and nab Dyson Daniels. That rate appears to be at least two veterans, a future first, and the #17 pick. That's a little expensive (I'd rather keep the #17 pick), but the upgrade would be noticeable. Green and KPJ would look so much better playing with Daniels.
To maximize Paolo , he has to be ball dominant. I don't think that can be avoided. Even with Wood gone, Top two touches probably will end up with Green / Ivey or Green/ Paolo, if any existing player is getting less ball touches, it's probably KPJ taking a back seat. This is already assuming Sengun goes to the bench or he plays the 5 but less playmaking. This is less of me pro-Ivey or pro-Paolo, more of projection of how it'll play out. Good news is at least we know Green is still effective off ball. This is why lot of teams prefer Jabari and Chet, they can score without being ball dominant. As far as need, team need defense wings and big. Despite log jammed at the guards position, we still really don't know who that other guard is next to Green. Even though I know you personally like KPJ. Bpa still trumps fit, especially at with top draft picks. If Stone believes Ivey is better than Paolo, he should choose Ivey. Even with Paolo, he doesn't plug the defensive hole. So both aren't perfect 'fit'. If you argue both are bad fit, but Ivey relatively worse, I can agree on that. The two two-way guys who can be effective and not ball dominant are likely gone by the 3rd pick.
I disagree, Paolo is someone that can drive but he is not someone that brings it up and initiates every time. Paolo is like Green he gets the ball from the PG and attacks - Ivey is going to attack on his own...... Ivey doesn't fit.......and we have Nix and KPJ ahead of him....who are both bigger stronger better players. DD
I’m with you on this one. Adding Daniels and Banchero would pretty much conclude the draft portion of the re-build. Incredible core of young players and tons of cash and tradeable assets after next year = incredible future.
Man you're underrating Ivey's potential. Nix is not better than Ivey. I'd rather have one of the top bigs for our squad but Ivey & Nix aren't even on the same planet. Ivey also has the potential to be better than KPJ very quickly.
The goal shouldn't be to maximize any one player, it should be to maximize team output. With the Banchero pick, assuming we manage to dump Wood, you set up a situation where you have 2 bigs that are plus passers in Sengun and Banchero, 2 guards that can destroy you off ball in KPJ and Green, plus a guard who can run the point when needed in KPJ. That's absurdly difficult to stop......and they are all under 23. It would create a scenario where basically everyone on the court could eat.....either by scoring themselves or by racking up assists. IMO that's best case scenario. Do you leave Green or KPJ alone on the perimeter when Banchero or Sengun has the ball in the post? KPJ is one of the best catch and shoot players in the game and Green has a ridiculous first step AND his 3 seems to be starting to come along. On top of that, if you double one, they have the passing ability to get the ball to the other big for a dunk or layup. This is what I want to see going forward.
I think Nix is being pretty highly overrated right now, but Ivey is nowhere near Green or KPJ....and likely won't ever be. KPJ has proven more in the NBA than Ivey did in college....I mean I get it, Ivey is quick....but that's his entire game. He simply doesn't compare to Green who is a bigger and better in every way version of him or KPJ who is more skilled plus bigger and better in every way.
By ball dominant I'm excluding people bring up the ball. Anyone on the squad with adequate dribbling ability can do that, could be KPJ / Nix/ Josh/ Gordon/ Green. Scope is what happens after crossing the half court line, who is the actual initiator: the driver in a drive and kick, the ball handler in a pick n roll, the main dude in the iso. Paolo is definitely competing with Green and KPJ in that.
suddenly KPJ is a player a top lottery prospect likely won't ever be better than everyone must have missed the memo where kpj was a proven great player. classic cf nonsense
Clearly you did. What KPJ has done in the NBA is more impressive than what Ivey did in college. KPJ was the best catch and shoot 3 point shooter in the NBA among players who played at least 1000 minutes..... If he was in the NBA draft this year, there's no chance Ivey would go ahead of him. None.
