Here we go again. Do we have to tie racism into everything here? The truth of the matter here is that there is a HUGE difference in the two situations. And it ISN'T the color of the offenders' skin. Rocker was punished by his employer for his comments. He told a reporter, technically "on the clock" (if you will) with the Braves, several racist and hateful comments. Iverson made his CD on his own time, and it had nothing to do with his employment with the Sixers. Therefore, the Sixers nor the league can punish him for it. He made a CD, it is music, entertainment. The worst thing that can happen to AI? His CD won't sell? Certain stores won't carry it? I am white, and I am not defending either person here. But there are consequences for certain actions where they apply. Sure, they both said some offensive things. But one instance is punishable, one is not. That's the breaks. ------------------ There is a very fine line between "hobby" and "mental illness." [This message has been edited by HOOP-T (edited October 06, 2000).]
Iverson says nothing about race like Rocker did. If you are going to compare him with someone, then compare him with Eminem (anti-gay, anti-woman), who not only gets away with his disparaging remarks but has earned millions because of them. By the way sirhangover, Eminem is white like yourself. [This message has been edited by outlaw (edited October 06, 2000).]
They are both human. And while I do not respect some of the decisions they have made, I know that I've made some interesting decisions in my life as well. They are not that different from any of us on the whole. All I will do is ask them to learn from their mistakes and try to respect the other people they associate with. ------------------ humble, but hungry.
Damn dude...I think we RocketMen better get together for a beer. You took the words right out of my mouth...again! ------------------ I am the b*stard son of LHutz. Huh? Right!
BTW, Eminem is a jacka$$. Thank you, drive through! ------------------ There is a very fine line between "hobby" and "mental illness."
Poodle Four, I think what you stated is what sirhangover has a problem with. Just because someone sings it and someone else reports it doesn't necessarily mean there's any difference, and I have to agree with him. Besides, any reporter/reviewer can make comments about lyrics in rap music; it's not as if the content of the music is "hidden" in any way. The fact is, that it's become accepted that killing and derogatory remarks in music such as rap, as an example, is the norm. If you take the music away, turn it into prose, and broadcast it, you're in deep doo. I think there definitely is a double-standard there. ------------------ I got nothin'.
I agree with sirhangover. The liberal media is giving Iverson a pass. Very simple. I guess if Rocker's remarks came via a country/western song instead of in an interview, it would've been okay (hey, David Allan Coe does it, it's not out of the norm)? I'm sure the media would've passed it off as 'just music', therefore not worthy of coverage. ------------------ Winnifred Skinner is a slut.
TheFreak : Do you really think that if Iverson had sat down with a reporter from SI and then procedded to say "San Fransisco is full of f****s." He would have been ignored? I think not. ------------------ Who would've thought Don Nelson would pass up Olumide Oyedeji not once, not twice, but thrice?
Yes, Freak probably does think that. Freak, can you explain how Eminem and Iverson have both had about the same amount of press for doing the same thing? Probably not. That wouldn't fit into your paranoia surrounding liberals controlling communication in this world. Please. I think it's pretty clear that the Iverson situation and the Rocker situation, no matter how stupid they both are, are not exactly the same either. If you can't see that, I can't help you. BTW, did he say anything bad about whites? ------------------ Cheerleaders are just dancers who've gone r****ded. visit www.swirve.com [This message has been edited by Rocketman95 (edited October 07, 2000).]
Sir Hangover -- What separates you from anyone you're describing? You dropped the race the card quicker than Quannel X... The true hypocrisy of racism is the so called 'victimization' of scores of blacks, whites, asians, canadian, et alum -- noone wants to take responisibilty for the actions, everyone has to have someone else to blame for their sh^thole of a life. Instead of looking for ways to improve our situation, reflecting on what about ourselves is holding us back from we want, we b^tch about the Man and how he's holding us down or the incredible double standard thats destroying white america. We teach our children that they can never amount to anything because of Mr.Whitey and his KKKops and the wonder why their putting out apocalyptic, hate-filled rap albums some 20 odd years later... ------------------ It doesn't matter if I have a signature!

DoD, And, the same could be said about Elvis' music back in the 50s, so what's you point? Musis is a form of art, how can you argue that? ------------------ I have a dream.........his name's Hakeem. DREAMer's Rocket Page

I'm not sure if Rocker ever did this. If he did, I'm sure the liberal media wouldn't have reported it anyway. http://espn.go.com/nba/news/2000/1009/809406.html ------------------ Cheerleaders are just dancers who've gone r****ded. visit www.swirve.com
