Better is not winning a few extra games and getting blown out of the first round. Better is playing the young guys, clearing cap space, and maneuvering for a top ten draft pick. Again, there is nothing to be accomplished from another first round appearance unless the talent is there to go all the way.
People don't want him because he would stunt Brook's growth and take away from his playing time. Why should we do this? The team as constructed has no chance to win a championship unless Yao miraculously comes back, Dreammvp. Brooks and AI can't play together; there games require that they have the ball for dribble penetration. Having AI would relegate Brooks to a spot up shooter. They cancel each other out. It's like the year the Knicks had Steve, Stephon, and Crawford. All of there numbers dropped because they did the same thing. The offensive gained by having both Iverson and Brooks on the offensive would not be worth the defense that we lose with that tiny backcourt. Some people want to rebuild and reload with youth and set the Rockets up for the future by developing young talent plus Iverson was kind of a team cancer last year.
Are you a die hard Yao Fan? with a comment like that I would think so. Who says the Rockets need Yao to win it all. They didnt have Yao when they won back to back. If I recall the last 3 teams that won it all didn't have a Yao Ming caliber guy. Gasol , Duncan , and KG are not Yao Ming type of players. One thing they have that Yao doesn't is mobility. Just because Yao isn't playing for the Year doesn't mean the Rockets can win. Trades to happen. Who knows what trade is to come where it can make this team better and have a shot. Brooks and A.I can't play together?? How do you know?? A.I and Melo wasn't suppose to play good together look how that turned out. If Brooks can play with McGrady then why can't he play with A.I??? Oh gosh not the Iverson was a team cancer again. Who fault was it. Not Iverson. No one told Dumars to make that dumb trade knowing that Iverson wouldn't fit well with that team. You can't ask a guy who has been a scorer his whole career to come in a become a distributor. Come on. Thats just a no no.
I agree with Raven as I usually do. I dont want to win 20 games either, but its a means to an end. A lot of these guys that were the cream of the crop for next years FA period are going to sign an extension, or have already. Bosh is still attainable, but if Wade, Johnson etc sign extensions in the next month, Bosh is going to get even more attention from other teams.
Not a Yao fan at all; I just know he's the best player on this team when healthy, and the rockets aren't winning unless he's playing or off the books for another player of equal talent I went through why Brooks and AI can't play together already, and you still haven't rebutted how the offense would work if they were to play together. One possesion Brooks penetrates then the next possession AI will? Iverson is an Iso player. Defensively opposing teams would have a heyday against us. Dumars this trade for cap reasons. It is Iverson's fault that he refused to come off the bench and whined and cried about it making up fake injuries. He got beat by freaking Rodney Stuckey. He could have been a scorer off the bench but not Iverson, his ego was just too big.
I'm sure during games that Iverson and Brooks won't be on the court together. That's just too much offense in the back court. Im sure RA would pair Lowry up with one of them to balance it out. Iverson man'd up and came off the bench. He may not have like it but he did it. Rodney Stuckey is a good up coming player so if he got beat he got beat so what. Rodney Stuckey isn't a bum.
O he did it. I don't recall seeing Iverson in the playoffs? You know as well as I do that he faked that injury. The comeback date just kept getting pushed back because the team was better without him. Lowry and Iverson still a tiny backcourt. Would rather see Tmac and whoever. Whats Tmacs role when Iverson joins?
So does this rumor have any credible source or is it pure speculation based on a few things Morey said about an aging star? The thread is too long to sift through and find info
No credible information. The best source is some guy on an internet forum said that Ric Buchear on a radio program said AI is coming for two years. Hasn't been confirmed yet meaning it's probably not true
Thanks mate. Hmm yee. That's what I read at the start of the thread but then it blew out to over 300 posts so i thought something might be up. Doubt he will be coming either. Don't see how this move would fit in with the rest of the off season moves DM has already made. Might be fun to watch but that's about the only positive i think.
You must be Iverson himself to actually know what his body was going through. IDK you tell me. Hmmm I maybe new to this but I don't recall Iverson faking injuries in the past. Now all of a sudden he is so called faking injuries.
A few weeks ago when AI to HOU was first mentioned, I wasn't for it. But after reading this entire thread, I think that it is going to happen. Also considering the Pops signing, I think it signals imminent roster changes. I really have no idea how all the trade scenarios will work out, but, I'll list potential incoming players and outgoing players w/some speculative reasoning; Iverson-Incomming[Why?]- And paraphrasing other points; It was the Rox that called AI's Agent, We need the scoring/playmaker/all-star/ticket seller [Les is known for this]. And IMO, having AI on our team for this season continues the championship development of our organization because our players will be playing supporting roles around an all-star/playmaker, continuing to learn the motion offense that Adleman tweeks to his personnel's strengths and weaknesses (Who knows which all-stars will fill this role in 2010, but, rest assured, we will restock). Ramon Sessions or Ricky Rubio-Incomming[Why?]-Where there is smoke, there is fire(Ramon Sessions photographed working out w/our team-You wanna work a guy out w/the organization before you trade for him(sign-n-trade w/MIL), don't you? It is no secret that we covet Rubio, and if he were a Rocket, a Chinese shoe contract would resolve the buyout. Ramon Sessions seems more likely to me. So, with the addition of AI & RS or RR, we've got a shortish shooting guard, but above average height point guard, which leads us to... A.Brooks-Outgoing[Why?]-We hear there is interest around the league & his value is high right now. And let's face it, he has limitations and is tentative from time to time. He would fit better on another team. C.Landry-Outgoing[Why?]-See A.Brooks. Also we just signed Pops. And there may be more to the gun-shot incident. I'm gonna miss you, Landry. Also, look for Cook and/or B.Barry to be packaged w/Landry or Brooks. The simplest move is Landry & Cook for Sessions. I also think the upcoming moves will put us more under the cap next summer. And, as to the hold up on the AI signing, I'm guessing that there is something unconventional going on. Others in this thread have mentioned that we sign-n-trade for him to make money work & roster spot availability. AI even said he may sign w/a team but doesn't know where he will ultimately end up. This potential type of deal has not been done before in the NBA, to my knowledge. Could MIL be looking to sign AI & R.Sessions to just trade them right out the door to HOU?
I'm not sure, but the first place I saw it was at Bleacher Report, by way of The DreamShake. As far as I'm concerned, it's just rumor... but that's what the offseason's for.
Iverson wasn't benched for Hamilton and Stuckey in the past. Don't take my word for it even people who follow the NBA for their career know Iverson faked it. Adrian Wojnarowski http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/news?slug=aw-iverson082009&prov=yhoo&type=lgns Read in between the lines; he faked it.
Detroit can only S&T AI at $3M at the most. Rockets only have $2M of their MLE left to offer him a contract straight up.
Signing Ai would tell me they are trying to get creative and still win. Nobody in their right mind on this forum could say we are worse if we have Tmac, Ariza, Iverson, and Brooks in the backcourt, That could happen to be the biggest move to help us more than some realize if it works out and Tmac comes back a little early. You add Pops, Landry, Scola, Andersen, and Chuck and that sounds like higher than a 8 seed to me. We could be looking at 5th seed again. Iverson and Tmac can both pass on the drive and command double teams and i am sure if one of them or Ariza and Battier are left open that would be drained threes all night long. On the defense you have to remember when we need to shut people down we would still have Battier and Ariza to throw onto people who are scorers to cool them off. This move could be genius and some people should see it that way. However I wont get excited because it might not be true. We dont know if Iverson chose the good fit here to ressurect his career and still compete or if he went for the money and guranteed to lose and be buried in mediocrity and obscurity in Charlotte. In the end it would take a real genius to explain he could make more money by staying in the limelight in a big market like Houston where his endorsments and products sold to Chinese fans of Yao could help him make more money and his new found career revival would make him more in the long run here. Who knows until we find out? Until then it is a exciting prospect and interesting story until then.
If the Rockets have offered him a 2 year deal. It would be from the vet min to the above mentioned amounts depending on the situation.
