and tallanvor, I'm not quite sure how the explanation makes it look better---if anything it extends and puts the author's words into her mouth when she never said anything like this, and makes the guy look so much worse because basically, he thinks well---

you know those inkblot tests---how you interpret them shows a little of yourself? In creating a strawman argument, and then adding that little bit in, it's safe to say that any inkblot test with the author would probably not come out too well.

She justified her actions by saying "It takes a different kind of person to speak the language.". The author interprets that to mean what is previously quoted. You may disagree with that interpretation but that would just make him wrong, not racist.

The idea that all gang members are black, or that the other option for them would be rapping... etc.

I actually want this ad to run as often as possible. It's a perfect illustration in my mind of the test of the "free market of ideas"...something like this has to sink and alienate viewers.
