This is a bit off topic, but, DAMN, Coach, how many damn usernames do you have? Big Ralph, COACH, now it's Lewis Lloyd 1983? Do you have a multiple personality thing going, or are you being clever? Carry on. ------------------ Jazzkiller
I tell you what, Kitty Cat, I am going to do this for you since you are so sure that the NBA is fixed or whatever. Tomorrow when I get to work, I am going to walk by Anthony's cube. Anthony is about your age, I guess. He has also seen basketball all his life also. He is a Bulls fan and we had many arguments as to who is the best ever during MY life. I argue for Dream with respect going to Jordan. He argues for Jordan with NO respect to Olajuwon, Houston or our titles. I will go and tell him tomorrow that he was right all along. I will tell him that Jordan was suspended from the league and during his absence, we got lucky and happen to win 2 titles in a row. I will tell him that he is so right about if Jordan would of stayed, he would of won 8 in a row. I will tell him that the NBA made the refs call all the breaks for Houston and that in 1994, the NBA refs whispered in Starks ear to miss all those shots because in about 18 months, they were going to have a one on one constest between Dream and a possible up and coming star named Shaq. I will make sure to tell him how right he was when he said that the refs gave all the calls to the Rockets during that miracle run in 1995 and that David Robinson had an arrangement with the league to be embarrassed by Dream in return for a ring in exactly 4 years. Its a sad day for me because I dress my baby girl in her 1995 Olajuwon shirt thinking that we won that title fair and square. Now, I know that the NBA refs gave us that title and there was a conspiracy all along. God, this really sucks. I hope you other Rocketfans can handle this sad occasion better than me. Hey Drexler85, Costashater, etc., do you ever just find a life of any kind? ------------------ Sleepless in the Bronx
Almu, What is wrong with you? Please, argue with my points based on those I actually say. I never said this has been a conspiracy for years! I never said it's a conspiracy now! I simply said that the Lakers seem to consistently get the benefit of the doubt calls-- there is a world of difference between that and a conspiracy. There is a world of difference between saying the Lakers get some breaks now and saying everyone has for 10 years. If you feel so strongly about your perspective, as obviously you do, shouldn't you be able to refute my argument without having to make up things that I never said? ------------------ President of the Mo Taylor, Jason Collier, and draft Richard Jefferson fan club! A few pertinent points about this ref-favoritism nonsense: 1. Yes, certain teams and players get the benefit of the doubt from referees -- but when one of the most notoriously favored teams (as everyone on this BBS knows) is Utah, it's laughably embarrassing to suggest that market size has anything to do with it. 2. The Lakers actually used to be one of the most-screwed teams in the league with regard to getting calls, before Phil Jackson came on board. There was a famous play in Utah where Nick Van Exel was attempting a game-tying 3-pointer & Karl Malone nonchalantly hacked him on both forearms in plain view of the entire arena, with no call. 3. The Sporting News did an analyis after Dunleavy complained in the first round about Shaq not getting called for 3 seconds in the lane, watching him for the entire game -- and found the complaints to be absolutely bogus. ------------------
Ok, Cat. I never said O'Neal ISN'T a fouling machine. He is. But you are not being fair. If you paid close, objective attention to Shaq when he plays, you will see that he elbows the opponent, barrels over him, pounds him left and right and always gets the ref to look the other way. But what you fail to realize is that everytime Shaq touches the ball and turns to score, there are countless hacks on his arms, his head, his face, his neck and his back is full of little gnats going over it to get the ball on almost every single miss. My point is to stop b****ing about the Lakers getting every call and accept the fact that stars get that treatment...period. Its not always measured by how many free throw attempts you get. This treatment is handed down. If you complain that the Lakers get every call or big market teams are rigged to win a title by some sort of "cosmic agenda", then lets erase all titles won by major NBA superstars since the beginning. Let me ask you something that I said before. If someone told you in 1994 or 1995 that it looks like the Rockets get all the breaks, would you be selective again and say that you don't "see it"? Like EVERY one of those Dream swats was legit? Not one could've of been goaltending, huh? Maybe the refs "looked the other way" when it came to Dream also, right? This has been going on for years. The best thing to do is just live with it until the next darling team comes along or darling player comes along. Pray that Francis and our team is next and when we start getting the calls, make sure that in terms of fairness, you come here to voice that illegal palming violation that was overlooked during a crucial game that led to Francis or your boy Kitty Cat or any of our team to the promise land. I, for one, will take any and all help from the refs, the NBA, Stern, God, my mom, dad, sister, uncle, nephew, Alien from the 22nd dimension, leprechauns, rabbits foot, voodoo doll, sacrificial popsicle, my left stubby toe or little red Rocketmites who happen to blind the ref the next time we need it to win a ring. And then I want all the other fans of the other teams who hate our guts to b**** and whine as to why us and not them. You can't be selective. ------------------ Sleepless in the Bronx [This message has been edited by Almu (edited May 08, 2001).]
Almu I'm sorry but a lot of players palm the ball and I don't think of that as a major break in the rules. Oh yeah I forgot that the refs are on Francis's side when he is second in the league in techs that come from little things like hanging on the rim or smiling things players do all the time. So yeah you're right, Francis gets the calls from the refs. On to the topic. i don't think it's a conspiracy, but I do think the refs look out more for certain players and teams than others. For instance I've noticed that Vince Carter doesn't get called for traveling, even when it's obvious. Also Shaq doesn't get called for the 3 second rule or offensive fouls. I don't know if this is all stern's doing, but I do know that Shaq sells Nestle Crunch bars and Vince sells Gatorade. BTW Steve does get called for palming more than most people who do it as well. ------------------
