Okay I will state one characteristic of Rudy's that might be considered a fault...

He believes in his players to a fault and he doesn't take starting lightly. You have to work hard to earn a spot on the starting rotation and you have to screw up even more to lose it... Rudy is the type of coach who tries to instill confidence in his players... He does that by not just yanking them after a few bad shots...

I mean look at Rice... The majority of posters wanted this guy traded some even wanted this washed up player released outright and just cnsider him a loss but Rudy stuck with him and now he is paying dividends... He brings a solid prototypical 3 that we have always wanted and while he is a little slow he still has game... He stuck with Cato and Cato has finally come around... And he is sticking with Moochie even though we all want to hang the kid... There is no question that Mooch has been struggling as of late, and contributed to todays loss... but Rudy isn't ready just yet to throw him out with the bath water...

Don't think Rudy doesn't know moochie has been playing stupid and bad as of late and I am sure he is debating tonight in hotel room if he should change mooch's role but the difference is if he is debating whether to cut back on a player's role but can't come to a definite conclusion, he will rule in favor of the player... I think his belief is that the things that found Mooch a spot on this team are still there and he just needs to work through this slump like Rice... So maybe Rudy is a little to loyal to his players but he seems to get results with those players... And never forget when Rudy took over as coach he was approached by the owners and asked should we get rid of Hakeem, who was a problem child for the organization with his mysterious injuries, and Rudy said, "NOWAY, this is the guy you build chamionships around and that is what he did... So before you are so quick to dump on the coach and fire him remember "Never under estimate the heart of a champion!"

Rudy simply doesn't have time to work with the tema with the new schemes yet. Things change so fast with Yao Ming's arrival and development. "we run a skeleton" offense."

He needs to tell the players to be aware of pass wehn Ming is having the ball though, and pass more.

Many people want Rudy gone, but none really say who they would rather have as the head coach.

    So who would it be?

I've said it time and time and time and time again.

Rudy is an excellent coach, but for veteran teams.

What our team needs is a hard-nosed, defense-first coach. Why? Because offense comes to this team so easily. We'll score, no doubt. We have Ming, MoT, KT, Rice, Boki (eventually), Mobley, and Francis as offensive options. We WILL score with the best of them. But if we focus most of our concentration on D, then that's when this team becomes unbeatable.

That's why I'd like to see the Rockets hire Van Gundy. He made the Knicks commit to D, and the results were beaming. 20+ games of holding opponents under 100.

Van Gundy is an exellent coach, and if RudyT wasnt coaching here, would be a great choice.
But, teams that make it a habit of changing players and coaches, quite often collapse, just as the Knicks have since Van Gundys departure.
Luckily, the Rockets, havent been that kind of a team......

I've had it with "I've had it with Rudy!" threads.

Rudy is doing a great job and we are ahead of wher I thought we were going to be considering the new offense, new players, team chemistry, players returning from injury, etc.

This team has a chance to be something special and all they need is time to gel. Maybe some of you naysayers should listen to the other teams broadcast people. They would kill to have a coach like Rudy or to have Steve & Cat.

Here we are moaning and b****ing about the little picture when the big picture looks so promising.

While I agree that defense is VERY important, we are already holding opps under 90 points per game. We are only scoring just over 91 point per game. This team just needs to execute in the 4th quarter and they win their fair share of close games.

Ok, Ill keep my tongue in cheek response very short....

Rudy is NOT doing a terrific job. Just look at the mistakes his team makes over and over and over. i.e. shot clock.

Anyone who has watched this team consistantly for the last 5 years should see just how bad an overall job he has done (for the most part)

Someone want to remind me again how Dream, Barkley, Clyde; and Dream, Barkley, Pippen, Cuttino netted us one first round loss, and zero Championship attempts?

Moochie hits his free throws and does not turn the ball over...we win!!!!

Moochie needs to play better! He is terrible this year and hurting us big time. There are 2 losses in which his play contributed directly to the loss!

    memo to Mooch:

feel free to make your freaking free throws at say, 65% versus 50%.....

oh yea, feel free to shoot better than 30%....say 40%.....

oh yea, feel free to quit carrying the freakin ball...

    memo to Taylor and Griffin:

feel free to make your shots too...37 and 39% will not cut it...

Look at Rudys decisions at the end of the game:

    • Moochie is in the game! - terrible
    • Moochie misses 4 FT's and Rudy keeps him in, only to palm the ball for another turnover! - terrible
    • After Moochie misses 4 FT's, why was the play called to leave the ball in his hands (for a possible foul). Was he prepared to go back to the foul line again? Even Calvin Murphy was yelling to get the ball out of Moochies hands (after all those missed FT's) - terrible.
    • Moochie lets Dooling shoot 3 pointer, after 3 pointer - terrible (Hawk should of been guarding him).
    • Down the stretch Rudy has all three of our shot blockers on the bench (Ming, Cato & Griffin) - DEFENSE RUDY!!

Bottom line, Rudy is the coach and decided that Moochies minutes were better then Hawks defense. - terrible

NBA league pass is God..You can be everywhere or anywhere....Anytime..

The only true way a fan can really know where his team stands in the league, is to see other teams play, listen to others take on your team and compare.

Rudy made a bad decision leaving "Dribble, dribble, turnover" in the game yesterday --period.
Everyone makes mistakes, but Rudy is still the man. :)

I just remember a year or 2 ago we need a win against the Suns and Rudy decided to put Moochie in the 4th quarter to guard Jason Kidd who was on fire that night and Moochie couldn't play defense for nothin and Rudy never took Moochie out to put someone who could play better defense against Jason Kid,Jason Kid single handedly beat the Rockets by scoring repeatedly over Moochie and Rudy never took Moochie out that game. Thats when I started to think Rudy didn't know how to coach that well.
Couldn't he see that Moochie was getting burned left and right by Kid?
Why didn't he subsitute Moochie for a better defensive player?
Anyone could of done a better job guarding Kid then Mooch that nite.

Good point. You don't really know how good (or bad) your team is unless you follow closely what the other teams are doing (and how their fans and press respond). Most fans only pay close attention to their own teams and either overrate or underrate their coaches and players.

Is it just me, or Moochie looked like he was stoned during the Clippers game, when the 3 seconds went off, he looked like a deer in headlights. Rudy should do drug test on him, man.
