I dont presume to think that school learning is the end-all be-all...but when you are first starting....what else are you to do? It becomes a chicken/egg scenario. you cant get experience without training...and training isnt enough to get you experience. You end up doing what I have done, and work as a independent consultant until you accumulate enough experience so that you can mark it on a resume. My strong suit is not that I have training/degree....my strong suit is that I love doing it and am good at it....in a practical head to head contest...I may not be as fast to a solution as someone with years in the field...but Ill guarantee that I acquit myself favorably against anyone in quality of the work...be they degreed or not. I guess my point is...it is nice if you were fortunate enough to get into the field without having to go the training route....but these days....that flatout does not happen anymore.
Tech schools suck. One of my good friends went to MTI. He graduated great grades perfect attendance and 18,000 dollars poorer. All that talk about finding them a job and great education and counseling blah blah didn't do him jack. He's a hard worker, too; but it really doesn't matter. And he sees other MTI grads all the time; they're all in the same boat. The other day he had to go to MTI's 'recruiting' office to update his resume with them because they had a new counselor. The new guy made the mistake of telling my friend how 'proud' he was of MTI. My friend went off on him. He saw this about ITT...he's wondering who he can report MTI to.
Go to a real college or community college. It will look a lot better, and probably be of higher quality, than any type of education from these "for-profit" things.
