Actually, am I crazy... Trading for Romo would mean he'd come with a $14 million cap number for the team acquiring him, but none of it would be guaranteed beyond the first year, meaning if he got hurt he's cut and we are free? Year 2 is the bad year with $20 million in base salary, but none of it is guaranteed. That would seem to make it a prime contract to restructure.
I am not sure of his current contract but I am pretty sure whoever traded for him would require his existing contract to be ripped up (unless it is beneficial like this) and then do a lower paying salary. I guess it could happen either way, standing pat and paying his existing salary/contract or ripping it up and starting from scratch (most likely at this stage).
I'm right. In a trade we only take on base salary, so basically nothing guaranteed other than the first year if he's on the roster. That's a $14 million cap charge. He'd obviously have strong incentive to redo that deal to get some guaranteed money and must realize he's not going to get $19 million in year 2. That's a pretty flexible deal for a team to trade for really, assuming he is willing to work with you on it.
State of the Texans is seriously misleading on twitter. Just posted an article saying Cowboys are in discussions to trade Romo to Houston, but the article itself just cites the Mort report.
His article doesn't actually say what the headline says. I trust him as well, that's why I follow. This article is misleading though. I thought this was him breaking his news, instead it's just citing the Mort report which doesn't say what his headline says.
This definitely has a "Bosh to Houston" feel to it. I don't think there's any way Romo plays for the Texans next year. Wake me up when this silliness is over.
Jerry plays nobody like a fiddle except maybe himself. But if there were an alternate to substitute himself, ricky smiths would be a prime candidate.
My guess: Romo chose Denver as a FA. He informed Dallas as part of the condition of his release. Dallas asked if he would play in Houston if they were able to trade him there. Romo said yes. Jerry is now trying to get Houston to compensate in a trade otherwise they lose Romo
The Romo information is all over the map. In an hour he'll be discussing reworking his deal to stay as the backup in Dallas. Tomorrow he'll announce his retirement.
