Speaking as someone who is not a Texans fan at all, and has no affinity with Houston sports aside from being a die hard Rockets fan and having a lifelong mancrush on Hakeem Olajuwon, you should definitely go HARD after Romo. He can turn the Texans into a true contender.

That's nice to hear although they had their chances in the '14 draft

I wouldn't pluralize that, they had a shot at Carr and so far he's the only good looking QB in that class.

They also reportedly want Jimmy G but way too small of a sample size to claim anything although he got injured quickly

Well the top story up here on tonight's 10 PM news is Tony Romo being released. They even managed to get video of McNair saying nice things about Tony. The sports talking heads all have Houston as a prime landing spot for Romo. Earlier today, Owen Daniels weighed in on Sportsradio 610 and he basically expressed what I feel about making this move:

Owen Daniels: Texans Shouldn’t Bring In Any Other Quarterback This Offseason
March 8, 2017 11:50 AM By Garret Heinrich
Filed Under: Brock Osweiler, Houston Texans, Owen Daniels, Tony Romo

Houston (CBS HOUSTON) – The Houston Texans are trying to figure out their quarterback situation for 2017. Currently, they have Brock Osweiler, Tom Savage and Brandon Weeden under contract, but talk has been of signing a possible other available veteran quarterback like Tony Romo or Jay Cutler and possibly even drafting another quarterback in the NFL Draft in April.

Former Houston Texans tight end Owen Daniels told Mike Meltser and Seth Payne on Mad Radio on SportsRadio 610 on Wednesday that he believes the Texans should stay with what they have under center.

“I’m not keen on [the Texans] pursuing any outside quarterback,” Daniels said when asked about his thoughts on the Texans possibly bringing in Tony Romo this offseason. “A big reason why there was such a big problem with the way Brock played this year…is because it was his first year in this offense. I think there is a reason why you see Tom Savage go in there and play, arguably, better than Brock and looks more comfortable than Brock. It’s because he’s been in this offense for three years. He’s seen this offense, these routes on a day-to-day basis for three years. You can not overstate how important that is, in this specific offense. This next year is going to be better just because the fact [Osweiler] has been in this offense for another year.”

The durability is also a concern for Daniels specifically with Tony Romo who has missed most of the last two years with injury and only played in a handful of snaps for the Cowboys this past season. Speculation is that Romo will be released from the Cowboys soon and free to sign wherever he wishes to try and extend his career. Daniels, who played with Osweiler for one season in Denver, thinks Romo coming into the fold would reset the Texans again and keep their quarterback struggles ongoing in the Bill O’Brien era.

“To bring in another quarterback who has been in his own offense,” Daniels told Mad Radio, “to come in and try to learn something totally new and totally different, completely different language, then you’re kind of just starting back at ground zero there. It doesn’t matter the ability of the quarterback because I believe Brock has great ability. He may not be able to sling it exactly like Tony Romo can sling it, but he can move just as well. You’ve still got to learn the offense and make the right decisions and throw the ball to the right guys.

“Bringing in a new guy, it doesn’t matter what his name is. You still have to start from scratch there.”

Daniels, who played in a Gary Kubiak offense his entire career sees a lot of differences in Kubiak’s style to Bill O’Brien’s style of offense, that can lead to some problems for a quarterback.

“(Kubiak’s) offense your routes are set pretty much in stone,” Daniels said. “Hot routes are built in. When you go up to the line of scrimmage and you run a play, guys know what they’re doing. My understanding of (O’Brien’s) offense is every route, just about, is an option route for every player. That’s a lot of gray area going on and a lot of being on the same page going on and a lot of trust. From a quarterback to a receiver, tight end connection that you are going to be doing what I see that you’re supposed to be doing, that we’ve studied all week. That kind of stuff can snowball and add up as the game goes along as the season goes along. You don’t quite feel like you’re in sync and you start to press a little bit and good things don’t happen when you start pressing.”

Daniels said the big thing he noticed with Osweiler, just watching the games on television this year compared to when he played with him in Denver in 2015 was his confidence.

“He was just way more confident way more decisive with what he was doing,” Daniels said of Brock of his time in Denver compared to what he saw in Houston in 2016. “That confidence factor, that demeanor just wasn’t there.”

Daniels did not mention if the Texans should draft a quarterback in the NFL Draft to add to their roster of quarterbacks. Osweiler is due a guaranteed $25 million over the next two seasons with the Texans. Savage can become a free agent after the 2017 season.

I believe that everyone here is desperately looking for the proverbial "quick fix" to the Texans' QB woes and there are no shortcuts nor magic moves that the Texans can make to weasel their way out of the corner into which they've painted themselves Thank You Brock Osweiler contract). Romo is available because he's 37, brittle and injury prone and because the clueless Cows stumbled onto Dak Prescott (thanks to Wade Wilson) whom the Texans could have had if they bothered to engage in a little activity called scouting. Sure Romo leaves the Cows as their all time leading passer with numbers better than those of Staubach and Aikman but he'll leave the Cows with only two playoff victories on his resume. Not to mention the enormous PR hit the Texans will take in the state amongst pro football fans. I can just hear the smirking glee amongst the Cows fans as they laugh at how the "poor" Texans "couldn't find a QB of their own so we had to let them have one of our castoffs". Ol' Jerry's smile would be so big, his face would crack.

OD is officially a dumb ass. Missing wide receivers that are wide open 10 yards down field has nothing to do with system. It has to do with shitty arm talent.

I'm assuming we don't have the cap space to sign both Romo and Bouye? If so, I suspect Texans prefer to keep Bouye and drafting a young QB in the draft.

Cap space isn't much of an issue. They can easily get up to over 30 million in space if they need to.

Can't disagree. Texans are poorly ran and will always stay mediocre.

Maybe so but he's spot on about the offensive scheme that BoB is running and the differences between that system and Kubiak's. He's also correct about the system that Romo ran for the Cows which is also totally different from BoB's. Ignoring reality and the facts appears to be in vogue now but these are facts the Texans can ignore at their peril. Even assuming that Romo is somehow able to stay upright for the season (and that's a BIG IF), you guys are talking as if he will be able to come in and instantly master BoB's offense and that ain't happening. I also want to know just how a fragile Romo is supposed to survive behind the Texans' creaky OL when he couldn't up in Dallas behind an OL that's vastly superior. And let's not even talk about the money being spent on QBs and the salary cap problems they created when they signed Osweiler.

I think Owen Daniels is allowing personal relationships with ex-onwers/managers and ex-teammates to cloud his analysis of the Texans' QB situation. Any take that calls for patience to allow every last ounce of opportunity for Osweiller emergence to occur over signing one of less than (10) proven NFL QB's on the planet lacks complete credibility in my book and reeks of settling for a goal less than making a run at a Super Bowl.

ESPN's Josina Anderson reports the Broncos have yet to have a formal meeting regarding the possibility of signing Tony Romo.

Anderson reports Romo is viewed as a "non-story" by some people in the organization until he is released, which is expected to happen Thursday. It is extremely unlikely the Broncos have not had deep deliberations about adding Romo and how much he will cost, but it makes sense for them to feign disinterest in public. The Texans are also expected to be interested once Romo is released.

But they are the 7th wealthiest sports franchise in the world.

    That's what really matters.

Reports on twitter that the Texans may not be interested in Romo at all.
