If he was more than that I wouldn't be posting here. If Battier had scored more in this series and the Jazz series, things would be VERY different. One game does not mean anything.
How many times did Kobe get to the hole? He was a jump shooter in this series, watch him against Denver in this upcoming series and see how many times he gets to the cup. It would have been a 5 game series if Kobe were allowed to get to hole against the rockets. Battier played outstanding defense on him and you don't value a player like him by his numbers. Battier's a keeper.
Come on PG this has got to be one of the stupidest post by someone who hasn't come across as a r****d in the past. This Rockets team just showed the most heart and character and played the toughest I have eve seen a rockets team playand now you want to trade the leader, the glue of that push. That is just stupid. Yes everyone on our team is expendable... there might even be a right trade for Yao. But what trade would that be for Battier. Think about it what trade would help this team. Brandon roy for battier. I would do that in a second. Never happen. Think about all of our spots. I mean really think.... Would battier get us a beter power forward than Luis and landry? NOPE Would Battier get us a better pg than Brooks Lowry? Nope Would Battier get us a better center than Yao? Nope Would Battier get us a better Shooting guard than Tmac and Artest? Nope Would Battier get us a better small forward than himself? NOPE People talk about Battiers intangibles and I have never been a great fan of all that type of talk... but this playoffs opened up my eyes to the fact battier is mr intangible... He brings so much more than the boxscore shows. What he does shows in wins and not stats. Sometimes you can't see that until it is on another team. e.g.Billups. Detroti trades him because they believe Stuckey is better. Billups is gone detroit is significantly worst and Denver has a leader. make no mistake about it Denver is a bunch of lost thugs without Billups. And the rockets would be lost without Battier. You will never get equal value for battier. But more than that battier fits this team better than ever before. Personally I see him as a 6th man. But a 6th man that gets 30+ minutes a game. That would be a great role for him. Or you could switch that role with Artest maybe. The biggest problem on the Rockets team is a solid defensive backup center and a a scoring SG/SF. If Tmac came back healthy and with a totally new attitude he would solve the sg/sf problem. But it seems pretty obvious to me TMAC is gone. He wasn't at the last 2 games and I got the sense that he wasn't really wanted. So if you trade TMac for Boone and Vinsanity you improve immediately both positions. Either way trading Battier is just stupid if you can't get someone better than him and that won't happen unless he has an expiring contract.
Thats team help defense from Yao, Artest and Hayes etc. You really think Battier can keep Kobe in front of him?
If you can get something good for him trade him, otherwise just keep him. Don't trade someone just for the sake of trading him.
of course. if ab and ron had scored more in the lakers series, we might've won in 6. if yao went nuts and went 50/30 every game, stern would've given us the trophy on a gold plate already. so your point? but let's cut the fat and go to the point. say we do trade battier, do you have any specific targets in mind? that to me is a more interesting topic.
As aalways people are too close to the forrest to see the trees. Battier is a good player and if you can insulate him from having to be productive on offense, then he's fine. Rafer was the same way;as people b****ed and moaned about when he traded. Rafer is a leader, can run the offense, get yao the ball, etc, and he's advancing to the conf finals because they don't depend on rafer to be the a scorer. Shane is a good player who fits, but there are a lot of players that fit that make less money or the same that can play defense and actually contribute. Back taps and stuff like that is cool, but what wrong with just grabbing the rebound? 31% with 8ppg including a 23pt game four isn't going to get it done. Last yr vs Utah, we saw the same thing. This isn't about 2nd rd glory, its about the ring. I'll take Marion and his 14-9 and great defense for 8m than shane and his 8 and great defense for 7. This poster will be taken to the bonfire, but I don't see anything wrong with it.
I say if we can get a wing that plays good enough team defense and brings better offense, then you explore that option. Someone mentioned Tayshaun Prince, if we can get the Pistons to somehow listen to us in a trade proposal for Shane and another player for Prince, then I say it's worth exploring.
He made Kobe work for every shot and Yao the shotblocker only played in 3 games. How many times did Kobe get to the cup? Battier is invaluable to this rockets team.
salary match aside, i wouldn't do a battier for prince str8 up. but if they include something else, then i'd listen.
Sigh, really? we give Battier too much credit. This year we went past the first round because of players like Brooks, Scola, Landry and others that Morey assembled. Are you really saying its Battier. Do you know what was Houston's record before Battier joined? We were a solid team that won 50+ games every year before he joined and we still are after he joined, we were a team who was in top 5 in FG% allowed before he joined and we still are that team. He is not the catalyst for anything. We traded a really good player for him and he should have IMPROVED us but he didn't. We are who we were before he joined. As for the talk about who we can get him for? Well thats to be seen. Let Morey do his magic.
Well Shawn Marion is currently getting paid way more than $8 million, but I'm thinking you're looking to the future, when his salary will clearly come down. Otherwise, I agree with you. And I think the Rafer analogy, which I mentioned above, is solid. It's less obvious with Shane, but it works nonetheless. Shane brings a lot of things to the table, but at his price, you could get a lot more.
I vote to keep Battier. But as with all players on the roster, I'd see what people want to offer for what the team has. I guess the fact that people are talking trade, that means you see he has value.
IMO Prince is a more complete player then Battier. The only thing you'll get more from the Pistons is probably some salary dump players, which I don't want.
You are weird. I was addressing your point on how Shane contributes on offense by pointing just that one game. Which is meaningless. Ok my point is, if you are defensive specialist who doesn't contribute on offense, failed to stop his guy at below season average. YOU FAILED. Thats my point. As for intangible team defense he brings. MISCONCEPTION. Rockets has always been a GREAT team defensive team because of YAO before Battier even set foot in Houston. Who can we trade Battier for? No clue. But he is definitely untouchable, not EVEN CLOSE.
isn't marion making something crazy like 17 per? and at shane's price, who you could have to get "a lot more"?
As long as the Rockets want to contend, they need to keep Shane Battier. If the Rockets have learned anything from this year's playoffs, it's that Battier is a winner. Shane is still in his prime. He should still have two good years left in him. After that, if this franchise decides to go another direction, you can still trade him to a contender and get something valueable in return.
Actually, the season before we got Battier, we were 34-48, and had only won 50+ games once in the previous nine seasons.
