I whole-heartedly disagree. Maybe when Tmac returns and he can at least catch passes that lead to layups. Love his hustle but love Scola more
I disagree with everything Denniscd ever says. Except this. Hayes is vital. A championship type player. With McGrady on the floor Hayes will be a non-liability IMO. Hopefully his minutes increase when McGrady returns.
I know I've seen Chuck and Scola on the floor together in past games also, they're both high IQ players and not every team has a 7'6 center.
Yeah, I'm with this dude! But he gets yanked from the game after only 6 minutes, 4pts and 4reb. LOF's UNITE!
How can Landry come into the same position as Chuck and be more productive in 6 minutes than Chuck is in the entire game, at least on offense? DD
I like seeing Scola get minutes. But I like Hayes a lot too. I think the problem is, is that it's tough to compete with "two" "intangible" guys on the floor at the "same time" in Hayes and Battier. Then couple that with a below average PG in Alston and you have offensive limitations. I guess what I am saying, is if Hayes being on the floor is vital, then perhaps keep him there, but then move Battier for someone else that can bring some scoring punch or athleticism.
No, He will set screen for guards on offense so that the guards can pass and drive easier, Which means less TO.
Play Landry more, let say 10-20 mins. He has the talent, the athletism and the quickness. He has the BB IQ and he is a fighter and finisher. Landry should get some pt at the end of 3rd and in the 4th quarter when we need a fighter, executioner to finish at the rim.
DaDakota, you know Chuck's role on the team. He is very good at shutting down the opponent's offense and disrupting the opponent's offensive rythm. Chuck was instrumental in shutting down Chris Bosh in our last game against the Raptors. In hindsight, it was a mistake to pull Chuck out last night. If Chuck were in, I'm not so sure the Sixers would have made the 16 point comeback.
It depends on matchups and who is on the court. If TMAc and Yao are on the court, Hayes should be in there because he provides better defense. However, if Yao is out, it makes sense to put Scola in there to make up for the height and missing offense that Yao provides. Adelman is giving Scola the right amount of minutes. Scola's minutes will gradually increase as he gets more accustomed to the NBA and is able to prove that he can perform consistently at a high level night in and night out.
At least Landry the kid doesnt miss WIDE OPEN LAYUPS. Landry either finishes with a dunk, or hangs in the air for a better shot, or jumps high enough to lay the ball in. Landry has been shooting perfect in 3 consecutive games. I have been saying Hayes needs to finish in a higher percentage for the easy shots he gets. It just shows how easy those shots are makeable with better athletic abilities and shooting touch that Landry brings. One more thing is Landry has a beautful stroke at FT line. The kid can rebound too. If his defense comes around, it's time for the Rockets to phase out Chuck.
Ideally Hayes and Scola would be backups at the 4/5. Rockets need to move to improve. This is last year's team, they've had their chances. Hayes+James+Snyder to Seattle for Kurt Thomas, a real starting calibre PF. This move also gets the Rockets under the luxury tax threshold.
I am not surprised Landry played 6 mins. It's a conservative approach to develop a rookie. And Adelman also doesnt want Hayes or Scola suddenly lose a big chuck of minutes. Adelman is mainly cutting Hayes minutes for Landry to see how it goes. Adelman is trying hard to develop our rookies and win games at the same time. But there is always a price you need to pay in developing rookies. Rookies dont win too many games for you.
I really think Chuck is part of the Rockets' inconsistency. He's easily one of the worst decision makers on the team. While he strives to play tough defense, he fouls at the most idiotic of times. He's incapable of shooting a mid- range jumper, which then allows other defenders to double Yao, Tmac and anyone else they choose to. BUT...I will say that Chuck hustles and tries to play within his limitations. Unfortunately, his limitations are great. Cod
Adelman tries to hide Hayes as a post in offense. But Hayes is too short as a post and his passing abilities is so and so.
The only cost of Chuck's fouls is if he contributes to team foul violations and the free throws as a result. Otherwise, Chuck is there to reduce Yao's fouls. That's how it worked under JVG, and that's how it currently works with RA as well. This is nothing new. We all know he has no offensive capabilities. Yet JVG started him and so did RA. You know, basketball is not all about offense, lol. <scarcasm on>When the Rockets trade Chuck Hayes for Tim Duncan, we can start Tim Duncan instead</scarcasm off>
Chuck needs Tmac on the court with him. Tmac is the only player we have that will draw attention on the perimeter on a regular basis, which lets Chuck get open for layups.
Landry will be an exceptionally good scorer for us. Hayes was an undrafted player from Kentucky and it shows. Landry will get the NBA defense down. His rotation and positioning will just have to be reviewed on film but he'll get it down. He needs more minutes now. By the way, Landry played 5:22 minutes which makes his 4 pts 4 rebounds even better in limited minutes. As I said, highest PER on the team. http://www.nba.com/games/20080115/PHIHOU/boxscore.html
Let's be realistic about Landry. I love him too, but remember what happened when he tried to guard Bosh?? Put Landry in vs. any good to great PF and you're likely watch Landry get schooled. He's just too raw and he's a rookie. With Chuck you're gonna get great D, but of course only garbage buckets on O. It's a tough choice, all the PFs deserve PT...
