I think Francis is more likely to take PT from Head than he is from Rafer/James at this point.

Very true. It was pretty reasonable to me to not use Bonzi last year, simply because of this out-of-shape and slower, just like what Steve is at.

Steve will play now and then,I'm sure, but do you really think Adelman wouldn't play him if he didn't saw that Steve's out of the shape.
So he's working back in and that's it.
No need to panic,It can't be achieved over night.

when he first came back, steve seemed like he was finally going to play more games and minutes then the last few years, but unfortunately that might not be the case....and this having nothing to do with any injuries with him. I just hope he can come back strong and earn his way into the rotation. He will definitely be a good backup if any guard gets injured.

James won't keep shooting that badly, but Rafer will.

And yet, Rafer will still be starting over James. And Rafer will also be playing in crunch time.

Maybe the coach is using Steve as an insurance guy. What if T-Mac goes out with another back problem like previous seasons? Then in comes Steve. Or maybe the coach is saving the best for last -- he's saving Steve for the playoffs.

Same thing I was thinking, I think we need to get Steve in the line-up quick. I mean we don't need to start MJ because hes great off the bench. So who else do we have to start but SF. I mean do yall people who say Steve shouldn't start. Do yall really think we can win it all with Alston as the starter.

Steve took 2 million less becasue he loves playing with Houston, and he never wanna to leave in the first place. I can't blame him for beening mad about not getting any playing time, hell I would be mad too.

Alston is alright on his good nights! He shouldn`t shoot too much, an open three now and then, he can be a decent rebounder and run the offense without turning the ball over... it`s just he has his off nights... regularly. On those nights he is turning the ball over, getting beat by his opponent every time and tries to make up for it by jacking up shot after shot.

I still think right now RA is the right option as our starter! But we at least need Steve to be able to come in, when RA or MJ has got an off night. When both have an off night he should definetly be in. So why not bringing him in for <5 minutes a game and try to get him comfortable.

It`s either Stevies fault by being really out of shape and not knowing what to do on offense, or it is a chemistry issue. I just hope whatever it is, it won`t be an issue for too long. With his talent he should at least be able to give us a spark off the bench! His last games in NY weren`t that bad!

Adelman basically said in preseason that of all the guards, Francis has struggled the most with this new offense. He also said that was to be expected because Francis has never played in this type of offense before. Take that statement for Adelman anyway you want.

You know what else Adelman said? He said Rafer Alston was a "perfect fit" in the offense.

When Francis gets his butt in shape, he'll be splitting time with James and Head, since he and James are both similar shoot-first PGs and Head would lose time by default.

Totally agree. And once the starting lineup changes, whether it's Bonzi entering the lineup or Scola replacing Hayes once Scola figures out what he's supposed to do, Rafer will be taking even less shots.

I think that's what people are missing... Adelman is not that kind of coach. Ever since he replaced JVG, people have talked about playing a larger rotation -- but Adelman is notorious for playing short rotations. He's said it himself, he prefers to play a few players many minutes than many players few minutes.

Adelman isn't for last resort clean ups. He'll play his rotation, and until you get into it, or unless its an absolute blow out, you won't see any playing time. These 5 min last ditch play Francis efforts have less of a chance than V-Span had to get on the court with JVG. As much as that sucks :(

(I agree rafer has been rafer and mj had a bad game, but wins are wins at this point)

yeah. the only problem is that he compared T-Mac's 3 point % to Steve's overall shooting %

You know what they say in football...

The backup quarterback is always the fan-favorite.

Apparently in basketball, it's the third string point guard.
