does 700 mil get them a better stadium than the astros have.. or is that a lesser quality stadium.. when you figure in ny prices?

because I know my yankee friends will talk about thier 700 mil stadium.. but im guessing it isnt' beter than minute maid?

at least I dont hvae to listen to them brag about the great yankee stadium and about how it's so great and the astros have no sense of tradition.. buidling all these new stadiums instead of keeping tradition

Well, Im guessing a good portion of the $700 MIL is for the land.

Plus, that stadium looks much larger than MMP. Kind of ugly if you ask me. Looks like an eye sore.

    The Finn man speaks wisely

There is not a bad seat in the house and there already is a parking garage.

IT will be a sad day in NY if this gets built.

    :(

Wilpon still has the idea on the table.

But there is an interesting development.....the NFL's Giants are now looking into a new stadium themselves. They were previously going with the idea of a Giant Stadium renovation to tie into the Xanadu redevelopment project. The Xanadu project would have given the "swamp" area and the Giants the type of entertainment development most owners are seeking now a days to go along with a new stadium. But Xanadu has faced so many problems, it might not get built. And with the Jets headed back into the boroughs, there is now a fear that if the Giants stay at the Meadowlands, they could become the second fiddle in town.

So now, the Giants are rumored to be looking into partnering with the Mets to from a retractable-roofed multipurpose venue. The financial hit on such a project would be nearly as large as if the Giants and Mets built there stadiums seperate on there own.

The are two funny thing about this latest development is.......

1......Mets owner Fred Wilpon originally intended on using a new stadium to lure the Jets back to Queens. His idea was to build his baseball park and have Shea either renovated or demolished to make way for a new stadium for the Jets.

2......If it were to happen, the NFL's Giants would have now "dormed" with the Yankees, Giants, and now possibly Mets.

Bottom line on this.........dont expect an announcement on the Mets new yard until we have some idea what the Giants are gonna do.

According to those close to the project that I know in the HOK Sport sector, the deal is imminent.

I.E......its not a matter of "IF" now, but 'When."

If all goes according to plan, "when" will be April 2007, "when" it opens.

Regarding the Mets stadium, just like at Minute Maid Park, that's where the roof would slide off the ballpark and be stored at.

The area under the retractable roof in left would be empty.

It would serve as a storage area for a 425-foot-wide portable grass platform which allows the entire field to slide out to the parking lot behind left field in 15 minutes for non-baseball events. This feature would allow other events (such as a Final Four) to be held at the stadium without damaging the turf.

The roll out field system is currently in use in Japan and will be in use for the Arizona Cardinals new stadium opening in 2006.

That doesn't look like it would seat many folks. What's the capacity on that thing?

I always said they should turn Yankee Stadium into a parking lot.

I believe that NoVA baseball park is supposed to seat 42,500.

Of course, it will be empty a lot if they end up building in the boonies rather than going to downtown DC where the park should be.
