At the time George Bush took over the Presidency he had spent 6 years as Governor of Texas, one of the weakest state political offices in the Country. If Obama wins the presidency in 2008, he will have have spent 6 years as an Illinois State Senator and 4 years as a United States Senator. So yeah, TJ.. Playing the "experience" card here ain't gon' work.
Not to derail the thread but I've asked this question before and no one seems to have an answer. Why is Obama questioned about his experience while Giuliani is never questioned about his experience?
LOL. I don't know whether it's sad or funny that there are people out there who use 24 as justification why a black president would be a horrible decision.
Don't you realize that people make decisions based on emotions, and try to back them up with facts. They don't bring up Guliani because they like Guliani.
Okay, I watched the whole thing. I don't really know enough yet about the details of what he stands for, but he is a good speaker. To me, Clinton was one of the most impressive speakers, but Obama is pretty good, too. One thing I know, people in the US and the world (which is watching the US, of course) are thirsty for change.
He is credited for turning around NYC in areas such as the economy, crime, and aesthetics. NYC is larger than Rhode Island. It's population and diversity rivals and exceeds several states. Those responsibilities can't be compared with other cities because of its scale.
The problem is that the Democrats really need to capitalize on the republicans weakness and whether anyone likes it or not, there will be a lot of people that are not ready to vote for Obama for religious and ethnic reasons. I am not saying it is right, but I am saying that is the way it is...if he wins the nomination you might as well hand the presidency to the republicans. DD
Very interesting thought. I understand the ethnic part of it, but not the religious side of it. He is a Chrisitian as far as I know so please explain what the religious issues would be.
I may be mistaken, but wasn't his father a Muslim? My point is that there are going to be a fair number of voting people that will not vote for him and not for any valuable or tangible reason, but rather one of ignorance. And, at this time, it would behoove the democrats to make sure they win rather than take a chance with a candidate that a good portion of Americans would probably not vote for.... Just can't afford to take a chance or to hand the presidency back to the Republicans. Al Gore would be a good choice...IMHO. DD
thats a very valid opinion, but i hope your wrong because im pulling for obama the whole way. i think he would bring people out to vote that normally would NEVER even care about politics. so maybe that would offset some of what your saying. like ive been telling people for months now its going to be a very very interesting 1 1/2 years coming up.
I just think it is foolish to try a risky candidate at this point. Obama would lose a lot of votes due to ignorance, and at this point in time......it is more important to ensure victory than to make a point. DD
