So the standard for officials is adjustable based on how good one of the two teams is at defense? I just don't understand why some of you are so against holding officials accountable for doing their jobs. They have a job to do, and that job is the exact same regardless of who the teams playing are. If they don't do their job, then consumers of the NBA product should voice their displeasure so that the league will hopefully improve the situation. Why is this so hard?
Just don't want the team/organization to get too caught up with focusing on the officiating and lose sight of what the main problems are with this team. I do feel the officiating is a problem that the league needs to seriously address and stop coddling the officials overall and hold them more accountable. This team however has too many problems to be getting into too much of a war with the refs. I don't think that will go too well for the organization. The team's best player has more free throw attempts and makes then any player in the league so if the team starts a war with the refs, it could back fire and Harden could stop getting as many calls. I don't know, it just feels like the main focus should be within not the officials.
Roxallways gets it.....you can never control the refs, but you can have a system that helps take the refs out of the game by coaching well; playing smart; making free throws; limiting stupid turnovers; getting competitive players with size (small ball does not work); and most most most importantly playing defense!!! Go watch the San Antonio game at our home where we played our arses off on defense the whole game which we not so ironically won. The refs are not giving up 110 pts per game....it's the players, gm, and coaching staff who need to be blamed for this travesty of a season. The goal should be to win a championship, not beat a depleted Wizards team.
I don't think one postgame rant qualifies as "too much." Especially after back-to-back games of complete nonsense, particularly against Dwight. If you see J.B. playing the ref card after tons of games, then yes, that's a problem. However, pulling it out on an extremely rare (and awful) occasion does not mean he's losing sight of the problems with his team. He can walk and chew gum at the same time. Also, by and large, the reason teams go after the officials like this is because it generally works. Ask Mark Cuban, Phil Jackson, etc. Officials are very easily manipulated when you publicly call out their errors (after all, the league rarely ever does it), and J.B. is just trying to work them in Houston's favor for a change.
Don't be ridiculous. No one is saying that. However, you shouldn't' be naive enough to believe that the refs have no impact on the final score. The same dialog is repeated every year by MULTIPLE teams. The officiating in this league is a PROBLEM.
Okay let's say his rant makes a difference in the refs calling better games with the team. With the way the Rox play defense, do you think the team will still be in much better shape? I mean congratulations for JB calling out the officials last night, great for him! I just don't think it will make much of a difference to the team's overall success. Just looking at the big picture. This team has major problems that don't seem to be getting much better, officiating or not. If somehow this rant makes the team closer and it translates onto the court, then wonderful! These last couple of games were frustrating no doubt and I'm not knocking JB for coming out finally against the refs, I'm just wondering if this same fire and conviction is going toward the team's overall execution and play because it's not translating on the court. I've been very angry at this officiating too but I've been more frustrated looking at the pathetic display of defense over the course of this year.
The season is not about the refs. Last night was about the refs. If you say otherwise you didn't watch the game.
It is always easier to blame someone else for our own issues. If it makes you feel better to blame the refs for our awful season so be it. At some point everone needs to understand that there is no more of a conspiracy against the Rockets than any other team.
The same can be said for fans of the NBA product who are allow poor officiating to slide by based on their personal preference for blaming something else.
Fans are by their nature fractured. We will never unionize to boycott something the NBA is doing against one team, because screw that team! If this unjustice were happening to the Jazz, or even the Bucks who I feel nothing towards, positive or negative, I would probably comment about it, maybe laugh at their misfortune. But in no way would I feel motivated to agitate about it. In the case of the Jazz, I would love to kick them while they are down. That is the case for the Rockets now. We have drawn the ire of too many rivals. LA, Dallas, San Fran, Phoenix, Utah, San Antonio, Portland, Oklahoma City...you think any of those fans would stick up for us? Hell no! They would want to kick us while we are down and that is what they are doing. So screw them. Screw the NBA. They can have zero of my dollars going forward until they decide to throw us a bone. Houston is quickly becoming the worst sports city to be a fan of (excepting Cleveland, which should be losing its city-status any day now), as we have had exactly two championships in like sixty years of existence. All this for a city that will become third in the country in population in the next decade. Shows you what the people in power think about minorities...
I'm not worried, and I'm not complaining about the Refs. We have much bigger things to worry about than the Refs. Every team can and does complain about the Refs. Yes, the Refs get things wrong every game. But, I'm going to worry about the things that are in the Rockets power to change. Let's start with getting back on defense. It's not complicated, just run your ass off when you miss a shot. It's that simple. When the Rockets fix everything that they are doing wrong , then I will start worrying about the Refs.
All I know is refs aside the rockets need a new defensive scheme. I dunno if JB was covering for harden or not but if your scheme is to have harden stay that deep in the paint for help defense when u have dwight Howard not to mention it lets a shooter have about 15ft of space on a corner 3 the easiest shot in the game outside of a dunk. That's just bad coaching. All I know is the rockets need to win 4/5 games coming up and go into the Allstar break 29-26. That would leave us with 27 games left after the break. Gotta go 20-7 or 19-8 to get to 48-49 wins and imo good enough for atleast the 6th seed but possibly a 5/6 matchup with the clippers which I think we can more than likely win. Remeber fellas we gotta show off for potential freeagents this summer and beating the clippers and winning a game or 2 against the Warriors would appeal to Durant or somone like that imo that might think "hey I can put this team over the top" I gueantee the rockets are going to pitch to KD that he can pick the coach of he comes that why we stuck with JB. Morey and front office knows somthing we don't I believe. Otherwise the moves they have made this year make no sense at all in not getting a real coach or making any moves.
yeah lets blame the refs for giving up layupdrills to the opposing team. we need to look in the mirror.
Hey if the shoe fits. If we won the last two games no one would really be complaining....but news flash we lost. So yeah losers....
