Nope, I'm from California. I became a Yankees fan the same way I became a Rockets fan (and a Bucs fan for that matter). Back in the day, I was a fan of whoever my favorite player played for. For basketball, it was Charles Barkley. For baseball, it was Wade Boggs. For football, it was Mike Alstott. So I became a Yankees fan in '93, a Rockets fan in '97, and a Bucs fan in '96 or so. Eventually (about '97 I'd say) I decided that I would just settle on following teams instead of players. Had I decided that a year sooner, I would have ended up a Suns fan, a year later, a Devil Rays fan, phew! It has worked out pretty well for me, seeing my teams win a Super Bowl and 4 World Series. No NBA titles as yet though. As an aside, wow, I have been here for a long time and people still think I am from Houston?
You should just make your favorite team whoever is in the championship game. You would do even better!
I have been pretty lucky in that regard. I chose teams based on family. My dad was/is an Atlanta Braves fan so that is what team I grew up to follow and they won a title in 1995. My aunt moved to Houston in 1990 and took me to my first Rockets game in 1992. That's when I started following basketball and the Rockets as my team. They won titles in 1994-1995. A family member (through marriage) played for the Eagles during the early 90s so I became a Philadelphia Eagles fan. No Super Bowl titles but they have had some success in the time I have watched them.
Yea, you are probably right. However, I think that George might feel a managerial change is the shake-up that the Yankees need and he is starting to run out of time. Unless he has already conceded that the best the Yanks can do this season is the wild card (which is going to be tough with Cleveland/Detroit/Minnesota/White Sox).
Hey hey hey!!!!! Not so fast there tex! There's still time to right this ship! And Boston can't stay hot all season! We'll see where we stand this weekend. At least I hope...
As Astros' fans learned last year, it's never good to put all your eggs into a basket with highlighted tips.
I heard that Pettite left the game last night with a sore back and Clemens is missing a start because of a strained groin? Hmmmmm.......... I stole this joke from MattJ
Uh oh! Don’t look now but since May 29th the Yankees have quietly won 9 of 11. Gone from 14 ½ games out to just 9 ½ games. And gone from 8 games below 500 to 30-31. Visions of 1978 dancing in my head?
