Oh really?...the OP said this.. He offended alot of people right off the bat. He assumed people who label Yao soft are SO CALLED fans. He not only disrespected Artest but he also disrespected the whole ghetto by assuming that Yao's probably more of a man because he doesn't go ghetto. He's just maintaining this idea that Yao is better than everyone else and therefore more important. He has flaws just like everyone else and alot of posters won't let anyone point any of them out without starting a verbal war. So, people started talking about that, because those were the statements the OP made. Also, leebigez has pointed out that what Yao is doing is not monumental compared to public figures of the past even though he has a huge opportunity to speak out (specifically about the problems with his government).

Killer instinct just proves hes not a real fan. no real fan whos watched this team would ever pick kemp over he dream.killer instinct= a bandwagon fan who only is here for he's yao. thats not what real fans are about.
What I'm not allowed to play and mess with those who have made a career out of it here? SEE DREAM THREAD. Of course I like DREAM more than any other player....I just think its dangerous to compare players to others because they are so different. Yao is not Shaq, dream is not Kemp....and so on...each have something different to offer and we could make a case for their flaws for every player. It seems to me some people will never change their minds about Yao and it is perfectly ok to show that even Dream got owned sometimes by guys that were physically different from him. Once again the way these guys are arguing his softness because of his stature is like saying if Dream was Yao's height, he would be closer to Manute Bol than Yao. Its just a nit picky argument.....no one yaos height has been so agile in the NBA....how about admitting that? I don't think these guys will because they expect him to be something he is not. They use the fact that Dream was better to rag on him....and they have a true problem with the fact that a lot of this board is filled with Yao fans regardless if they are rocket fans, and I disagree with that. I think we are lucky to have Yao and that these fans are no different from UT fans who root for UT guys in professional sports and it is not fair to question their loyalty or trivialize their knowledge of history for the rockets. I SAW DREAM at UH with Clyde but I don't think it makes me a better Dream fan than anyone here. I occasionally say it to rib posters who play the "I was there" card. In reality it doesn't mean anything. I love DREAM, i searched for his jersey for years in thrift shops because I never got one. One day in a little town outside of Austin I found a perfect one for 3 dollars. I bought it, I hung it, I hardly ever wear it and may girlfriend makes fun of me for it. i got smart I bought one of Yaos. The next guy, I'll get his too, but I won't expect him to be Yao. I think its incredible that the rockets got a guy at Dreams position so fast that could start a new era for the team. There are 30 teams that would love to have what we have. TINMAN is a stir it up guy and some times its fun to stir up the stirrer, no offense. I value his opinion. I just tink the "Dream can bench press more than Yao debate is ridiculous". The guy has HEART just like Dream and plays hard every chance he gets and that is what matters....SONICS SUCK.
I'm never into restricting people who want to gravitate to the Rox. I'm not saying we have to setup a history test before site entry, but I think just like any new venture, you should learn as much as you can about it. I've been owning this trucking company for 4 or 5 yrs now and I researched ways and methods to be successful. If I don't know something or I pass along wrong onfo and someone corrects me, that's fine. On this site we try to be as accurate as possible. I've had discussion on this site about trading Yao. I never I would actively shop him, I stated that any player is tradeable. If dream an be traded, anyone can be traded. Well posters came out the woods alling me a hater, troll, whatever u could comeup with. They then begin to tell me how much Yao means to Les, which sent me to the revenue sharing, which then sent them to les other deals with china, which made me state les should sell the team if he's scared to trade any player that makes the team better. Maybe I got off topic or so but let me sum it up. I'm a Rockets fan. I was a fan when moses and rudy t where here, along to dream, ralph and bobby joe, through the title years, transitioning to francis, yao, mcgrady and going forward. No player is bigger than the franchise. The moment that happens, you need to sell and get out. Now there are players that have done great things for your team as far as winning titles that define their importance to ur franchise like Jordan, Dream, Duncan, Shaq and so forth, but keeping a guy because u can make side deals that don't generate revenue for ur team doesn't equate. Not to mention we haven't won anything with him. Just field the best team possible and the other stuff takes care of itself. The Rockets will always be here and hopefully this forum will be also. If someone wants to know something about the rox or basketball in general, I'm always open. I can talk history, inside-out and speed dribbles, Z Cuts, shallow cuts, whatever. Anything to help people understand the game of basketball. I watch basketball games with a pen and pad and take notes, write down sets, plus and minuses and stuff like that because I've learned to be a student of the game. My college coach told me that day 1 watching scouting tape, be a student. That's not to take anything from the face painters, I'm just different.
I respect your rich history as a Rockets fan. That said, I have read your argument with macfu and MD_in_training and I think they had a point to call you out. How abundant your knowledge is in basketball does not give more creditability to what you said about Dr King and Yao.
if someone offers you an official NBA jersey and you had to pick between these two: 1. 23 Michael Jordan Chicago 2. 34 Hakeem Houston and if you pick 1, then you fail. but if you have #2 already, and you want a jordan jersey, I guess I'll let that pass
leebigez, look, I wans't targeting at you or any particular one. I was just upset about something here. Honestly, I agree with most of your points regarding bball, and enjoy reading it. I also enjoy reading most posts from 1999ers, even tinman. Every clutch's post, I read it twice. Anytime I see DD's post, I'll smile coz he's always annoyingly right. And, you said it, I also learn a lot about Rockets and bball from this site. I'm not sure if you've got my point. I was upset because as one of the fans which Yao brought here, from time to time I feel disrespected, even abused. Yao is a Rocket. Yao fans and Rockets fans share most common interest. Even if some of them love Yao too much and over the team, thus seem annoying, are those abusement like 'pls use English', 'who is dream' necessary? Yao fans is one of the reasons this site become porpular with >40k members. You can of course choose to ask them 'behave' as you want or leave, then I'll just pack. But with the banning of 'Y..O..F' in this site, I think Clutch clew pretty much show their attitue. So, why can we just get along and enjoy the time together? And you continue to share your opinions and knowledge about bball, while I just quietly enjoying many great posts here without feeling 'WTF' about those sick stuffs like "will you pick MJ's jersy or dream's".
I think you missed the point like the other guys. They can call me out or whatever, it doesn't bother me and like I said, none of it pay my diesel bill or anything else. I merely stated that Yaos contribution to society desnt have to wait for retirement because its not like he's doing anything that will threaten his career or life like Ali. Soup kitchen work and sack lucnches don't compare to making political stands against something you know is wrong. I continued to say the risk of losing money is the reason why atheletes don't take stands, yao included. So if I'm wrong because I stated the obvious, then oh well, but when you have a powerful voice that can be used to make resounding changes and you choose not to, then you're in that muzzled because of the money athelete to me. I also talked about how guy like Tiger and Jordan also fit in that category where as a guy like Ali and others in the past stood up and said something. That's what I said. I go and do charity work downtown and try to help homeless people get on their feet, but its nothing to what a person in the media with high visibility can do. Deke would have had a hard time building that hospital after he retired. He used his income, connections, and visibilty to raise the money necessary. Don't wait to make a difference, make it now because tommorrow isn't promised.
I don't think anyone would have called you out if you had been as specific at the beginning. Look, I am not saying you have backpedalled. I just wonder why you would clarify only after the heat had come.
I didn't backpedal, people are just so sensitive that their vision was blurred. Go back and read what I said and compare it to what I'm saying. Its the same thing, but people only could see what they wanted to see instead of the entire picture. The guy said yao is a great person and I could see him contributing to society when he retires. I said its not like he's mlk, malcolm x or ali and is going to risk his life or career to be a contributor. So anything he's going to do as a contributor, he can just do it now. I kept going and said atheletes today don't take stands, they just smile, get paid, get the pat on the back and toe the company line and yao is no different. What's was wrong with that? How was that ignorant. Ignorance is when you lack knowledge about something, but its not your fault. I'm ignorant to mandarin or italian languages. If I didn't know english, then that would be stupidity. Either way, neither applied to my post. I don't feel heat and neither did I change what I said I had to clarify because people got their panties in a bind. Which is what I also said. Yao was given a pass his 1st couple of years because of the adjustment period and stuff. Now 6 years later and people criticize him like any other player and some of the fans that are rox fans because of yao get upset and start to throw other players into the conversation because of a comment. I mean every big man comes into the league is criticized if they can't get their team a ring and Yao is no different. The difference is Yao is a hero to many and his supporters feel like they have to defend their hero. That's when this board begins to see *** instead of just Rocket fans. That's what this board and team is, rocket fans. I like and follow players when they leave the Rox, but I'm a Rocket fan no matter who put on the uniform. If Yao was traded, I would still watch his games and follow him because I think he's a good player and human, but once he's playing against the rox, I hope the beat his team by 30. I wish yao plays well, but I'm pulling for the rox to beat the brakes off any and all opponets. Like I said, I'm a Rockets fan.
1. who is dream is an experiment based on another where I felt that the message of the thread's topic before it (loyalty to houston) was completely ignored by certain members here leading me to the conclusion that they don't even read the thread questions, they just pick Yao cause it was an option. plus if you READ the whole thread, you can tell. A thread about the city of Houston and members completely missing the point bring up reasons such as 'a billion people' (which Houston does not have). the who is dream question was not meant to be an opinion poll, it was just used to prove my point that certain members only need to see one word in the thread. the word is Yao. 2. will you pick MJ or Hakeem? if it makes you sick then wear a bulls jersey. sorry maybe I'm too loyal of a Rockets fan to belittle the Rockets championships. And apparently the status quo is MJ is the best, the Rockets won without because he wasn't there, and I wrote a massive thread about that. You know why? cause this assumption was not based on truth, and TRUE ROCKETS FANS who WITNESSED NBA BASKETBALL back in the day can tell you otherwise. false assumptions lead to CLUTCHFANS posting crap like "Dream never made the playoffs before MJ". That makes me sick and I'm sure it makes ANY of the Rockets fans who are real fans sick. Was it misinformation? NO. It was an assumption. and if so assume false information about this team you supposedly root for, then you don't deserve to be here. this website was called CLUTCH CITY first because that was the name of the teams that WON THOSE CHAMPIONSHIPS. its not YAO CITY or TMAC CITY or MJ DIDNT PLAY THOSE YEARS CITY its CLUTCH CITY. maybe some of you need to figure why it was called that before you click on the site.
So am I leebigez, real fans criticize Yao not cause they think he sucks or he's soft cause they know he's capable of more. When I was pissed that Yao couldn't get a board on Okur or Boozer that's because I know he can. its not its Luther Head as our Center. Plus you're not the only one who realizes that any in a post about Yao can go a muck. Back not so long ago, we can all criticize Cuttino and Steve without anything about Steve serving soup to poor kids or "you Rocket fans should be so lucky.." bs. why? cause we WERE REAL ROCKET FANS. Think about the meltdown that would happen if Yao pulled crap like going to the SuperBowl to hang out with Jay Z. I GUARANTEE YOU people will defend Yao like he was wronged like the Shawshank Redemption. Its like a Yao thread causes 99 Problems.
