I used to live and die with each game. A win set my mood till the next game, a loss meant I had to stay off the Internet and ESPN. We didn't always have great teams, but even the try hard Adelman squads were worth getting behind because they played hard and had high Bball character guys. Last year was unwatchable. That this year is better doesn't say a whole lot. I've tried to get excited about this squad but the complete lack of defense is pathetic. The interior is a joke, easily worst in the league. Capela is a good piece but not there yet. Nene is all but useless in holding down the paint. Harrell is a energy, 9th or 10th guy on the roster. KJ McDaniel should be playing 30+ minutes a night. He has been the shining bright spot and is a potential starting caliber SF. We need to grow him and find out what he is. There is no reason he shouldn't have all of brewers minutes. Frankly, he needs to start opposite Harden, who is doing fine in this new system. Dekker flashes some ability but is an embarrassment at PF. The high pace leads to mistakes, but too many times we are playing YMCA caliber basketball. I don't mind mediocrity if there is a plan, path or philosophy that's conducive to building a winner. I am still a huge In Morey We Trust guy, and we are in desperate need of him pulling another series of trades. Deal Ariza for value while we can. Give KJ and Dekker all the SF minutes. Sign DMo, get his value up and deal him. I don't know how the other long timers are doing, but I enjoy monitoring Astros hot stove talk more than this.
I'm sure there's a younger fella ready to take your place on the fandom train Keep following an Astros team that choked harder than the Rockets did last year though.
Even if they make the playoffs it will be a quick out. In the playoffs you need to play aggressive defense. The Rockets do not have the desire to play defense. In the regular season they will win some games 120 to 115. That is fun to watch but no way to win in the playoffs. Anytime you have a team that has Brewer in your rotation you can not win.
I felt the same way about last year's team. I really did not like that team at all, but this group seems a little better to me so far. I don't think they are going to do much, but at least I enjoy watching them again.
This year's games - even the losses - are far easier to stomach than last year's games. But yes, I too no longer live or die by the result of a game. I just think that's because 1) I'm older and 2) have more going on in my life now. Getting really worked up and over this stuff is for the young and/or bored. I just enjoy it now. And when I don't enjoy it, I turn it off. For example I didn't watch the second half of the 4th quarter last night, and that was just fine.
Interestingly, its not the team itself that usually draws or averts peoples passion, its how they play. Its easier to get excited about an overachieving team that wins 45 games than an under achieving one that wins 50. At least, thats me.
The effort is there this year. That in itself is enough to get me watching. I totally agree with your KJ assessment.
Last year there were high expectations and the results were just a kick in the nuts. This season there are ZERO expectations. We know that there is no way this team is anything but first round fodder. The games are more entertaining this year I suppose but we are back on the mediocrity treadmill unless we tank or Morey pulls some amazing rabbit out his ass.
I like the team a lot except for the uniforms. How hard is it to get a decent logo and uniform? We literally have the worst uniforms in the NBA for several years now. They're a complete joke.
Meh. This is my team. I watched every game when Steve pounded the ball and we never made the playoffs to the injury seasons that gave us false hopes each year. Ive been one to say "screw this team, never again" but I'm right back for the next game. Maybe that's because I love the game and grew up playing and watching but I'll always hate a Rockets loss with passion and love a win like it was the first of a new season. No problem with losing your passion. I can understand the frustration. Hope you get it back buddy.
I feel the same, I thought it was just me growing older and having less time with my career but now I'm just starting to think this team is just crap. I don't think I have been able to watch a full game for over a year now.
I hate Les but he was right about one thing. This style of basketball is fun to watch. I enjoy the games now. Of course I'd enjoy them more if we'd win more. I like 50 win seasons and seasons that have nice winning streaks. That's when I'm invested the most.
I don't have many chances to watch the team, so i'll watch as much as i can when they're on. i will always root for the team, but my expectations are very low, and rightfully so with a schitte owner. the spacesuit unis are way out of date. might as well wear fila shoes while they're at it.
