Funny how a "old man" is dising a old school coach. No doubt about the old school part either. And what is wrong with that? The rookies need to learn and if the stick is working, use it. For VSpan, the turn-over ruin everything good he does. He is not a good shooter and he knows it. He is a great passer so he is playing within his game and look ma, no turn overs. Is he playing timid, sure, but if he barrels into the lane and get a charge call, then what use is he to the team? He must play under control and that is what this coach is insisting. He plays good defense too. BTW, I like the fact that the coach old schooled on Wells. Novak needs to learn his defensive assignments before he can showcase his shot. This is the #1 defensive team in the lead and Novak won't get a change to reck that. Not when JVC is still the coach.
I honestly don't know if JVG is the man to lead us to win championships. I do agree that he can wear on some players. I'm not sure how great a teacher he is to developing players. But, most of his players, especially his best ones, like TMac, love him. The same was true in NYC. Why is that? They are often very loyal to him. I think it's because he IS honest, sincere, passionate to win, doing everything he can possibly do as a coach to help the team win, and players see that. He does have a sarcastic type of humor, which doesn't always quote well, and his emotions show all over his face. To say he is disspassionate is totally inaccurate. His veteran players consider him the best and most intelligent coach they've ever had. Rudy had a way of getting a lot out of his veterans. He was the exact opposite of JVG. He wasn't a teacher. He wasn't good with x's and o's. But, he was good at leading his team, and boosting their morale. I'm not sure how good JVG is at boosting their morale. But, he DOES "get" his players. Do they play tentatively at times, trying not to make mistakes? Yes. He's demanding, and trying to get them to do what it takes to be champions, which requires a level of consistency and discipline to win night in and night out. He's demanding that of his players, because he knows THAT'S what it will take. That's a real problem in today's NBA, with so many selfish immature prima donna multi-millionaire players trying to get a replay on SportsCenter. JVG tells it like it is. He's prepared for every game. He won't put up with anything but every player's best. He won't put up with knuckleheads, and he get's defense out of players you'd never expect. I do admit, that I wonder at times if he is a leader like Rudy was. I do wonder if it would be good to have more teacher assistant coaches. I do wonder if he wears on his players at times. But, defense does well in the playoffs. Let's see what he actually does with a healthy team with support around his two stars. For the first time, I believe Yao might be able to lead this team in the playoffs. If Yao becomes the beast, that he's starting to believe he can be, we'll go a long way. Yao is the key to us becoming contenders, more than JVG. JVG IS a good coach for a player like Yao, who is very used to disciplined coaching in his background.
Sorry, not Princeton, it was YALE. He transferred from Yale to Menlo College, a California JUCO, to play ball.
you don't think the team is playing well when we're 11-5? there are only 2 games that we gave away which we should've won and those were against the spurs and pistons. i'm not even upset about those games because those teams know how to make a comback like that. we still played well enough to win those games. we could be 13-3 right now. now, the 12 game stretch will be tough. no doubt about that. i'd still bet that we finish the month with a 21-10 record.
There would be a lot of people agreeing with oldman if we were a .500 team. He makes some good points but I still think JVG is a good coach for this team. Yes, JVG must evolve because the NBA and its players are evolving. I'll tell you this, we are LUCKY to not have a head case worse than Bonzi right now. If Kobe, Artest, K-Mart, or the rest of the big babies were on our team, there would be a lot of chairs flying.
maybe the rockets should stop keeping score...that way the players wont get their feelings hurt if they lose
speak for yourself, you're delusional... it was a thumping from start to finish! let me remind you, the score was 107-76 and the Rockets outscored the Mavs 32-15 in the final quarter... and since I can almost predict what your answer would be for the rest of our wins against teams that are under .500, I will offer the same answer I said in the god-awful "0 good wins" thread... the reasons these teams have losing records is WE BEAT THEM on their way to their losing records this year... our wins and the other teams losses go hand in hand... if the Wolves would have beat us, they would be a .500 team if the Bulls would have beat us, they would be a .500 team the Cavs, you remember that game, the one we just won and held the opponent to 61 points, they are 10-7 after their loss to Houston... had they beat us, they would be a pretty 11-6... but none of those scenarios happened... The Rockets handed them their losses and now those teams have worse records... you cant make excuses for why we got a win... please refer to signature from now on
I'll consider your answer after Thu 14 at Golden State Fri 15 at LA Lakers Sun 17 at LA Clippers Wed 20 at Portland Fri 22 at San Antonio
JVG does not scream at T-mac maybe because T-mac can not be screamed at. T-mac probably is quite weak mentally. He has to be pampered.
Sounds like somebody was traumatized by her coach back in 2nd grade on the girls soccer team. It's the NBA. It's emotional, it's intense. Men yell at each other. Get over it and quit projecting your girly-ness onto the Rockets players.
Okay Gramma Gundy with your spare the Rod spoil the child mentality... You spanked Jeffy around on his bare bottom until he was 14 and look what he turned into. Take some responsibility for your grandboys raving maniac attitude!
