I'm usually at the Y as well in downtown since I work there and it is SUPER convenient. Since it is in town, there are very few kids and mostly professionals year round so that is nice. My company used to subsidize it and it was dirt cheap a month, like $17 or something. But my husband and I will be signing up in the next week and their prices shot up and it'll be $66 for both of us per month. Thing is, we have very few options in town and nothing is as convenient as a gym next door to work and caddy corner from the parking garage. So we're biting the bullet.
This is true to a certain point, but when there starts to be a lot of unknowns there and things turn up missing - they are forced to crack down. If you want to be legit, memberships are sold on a pro-rated yearly basis for single, non-alumns at $22.50 per month. JAAC Membership
u should, its not always crowded and u can always use the machines. i also have 24 membership, i paid around 890 for 3 years and got to use any place, and anytime i wanted to....afterwards its 50 dollars to renew every year for the rest of my life... no monthly fees just 50.
i've always said that if companies MADE it part of their employees' work schedule to hit the gym for as little as 30 minutes a day, 3 days a week, they'd have much happier employees and a lot more efficient.
Well, I cancelled with 24 Hour Fitness last night and guess what. About 10 minutes ago a co-worker of mine walks over (knowing nothing of my situation) and asks me how likely I would be to use a membership to a gym if I were given one. I said "very likely" and she handed me a one year membership to Fit athletic club in River Oaks. It's a left over from an auction we had this year. It had found its way to her and she wasn't going to use it. Funny how life works sometimes, no?
So I went today and signed up for the one year free membership at Fit. The guy told me that there is usually a $350 sign up fee, a $20 activation fee, and $75 a month for standard membership ($20 extra month gets you tanning, martial arts classes, etc.). Therefore the gift certificate ended up being worth $1270. Crazy.
I appreciate you trying to help, but maybe read the thread first. I mean, the point you made was covered in the first post.
If you have read the rest of this thread you know that I ended up stumbling, very luckily, upon a free year membership to Fit club in River Oaks. I went last night for the first time and it's a really nice place...not nearly as douche-baggish as I expected. Still very upscale though, with things like full towel service and a smoothie/Starbucks bar. They also have complimentary shaving gel, aftershave, disposable razors, moisturizers, etc. at every sink. Each toilet has its own little room, so there's no need for concern about wide stances. But the best thing about the place? Spoiler It's where the Power Dancers workout I first saw "Sweet Susie" walk into the gym and sit down outside one of the aerobics rooms and figured she just teaches a class on her off days or something. A little while later Power Dancers started trickling in and before too long they were going through their routines. Luckily the walls to that room have big circular glass windows, for viewing pleasure. Now before anyone thinks I'm going to stalk them, I just want to be clear that I don't plan on bugging them. If anything I would just say I'm a huge Rockets fan, I had no idea they worked out there, and it's cool to meet them. However, I can only imagine what some of the people (Dave2000, Kam, etc.) would do if they were in my position Dave2000 faints Kam faints
The girl I'm seeing goes there. She said it's like $75/mo., which I find waay too expensive, personally.
