Great minds.... etc. etc. Anyone else noticed that occasionally, on the new BBS, when someone edits their post, it does not say "Last edited by ..." at the bottom? It says it on my post before BGMs above, when I edited. It does not say it on BGM's post when he edited. And it has happened to me before that it does not display the message. Just thought that was weird.
I'd do either of those in a heartbeat. Obviously #1, but #2 also. I'm a big fan of KT and I'd hate to lose him, but to get rid of Cato's contract (and Cato) and net Miller - replacing KT with Othella, effectively, no question. That'd get us a serviceable 5, while trading spare parts and parting with Cato's cumbersome contract. Othella and KT are actually pretty similar, except that Othella can realistically play quality spot minutes at 5. Rice's offense would probably offset the loss of Shandon's defense, and might be even more valuable in the zone... Possibly the best trade scenario I've heard all summer. We can only hope!
Thanks for the props Treeman. If we could send Cato to Chicago, then Dream could punk him more often that way.
Well, let's see. Rice is a SF. So, if he was coming to the Warriors, Golden State would have to unload . . . Nahhhhh, let's not go there. Even the new BBS would bust under the strain.
Like most of you, I gotta believe (aka HOPE) there's a third piece to this puzzle. Should be interesting to see how this plays out. And won't SA thrive in the up tempo, running Knick's game. That and the new zone defense will really showcase his offensive skills.
This seems like a very bad deal. But I would consider doing it if we could throw Walt into the deal. Essentially Walt is the same type of player as Rice (Shooter, No D playing, overpaid) but I would rather have Rice than Walt. RIce is a great shooter and is very clutch but I can't see us doing a straight up trade for SA for Rice. Doesn't make sense.
How about Shandon, Walt, and our Toronto #1 FOR Othella, Rice, and New York's #1 This ties-in OP's thread which ranked Othella as the most likely new 5 on the roster.
First off, don't think of the 6 guys who can play sf as sf's. Think of them as mid-range shooting forwards. The new rules will totally redefine these position "titles" anyway. Second, I think this will be the case of the Rocks once again mixing relationship with business. They wooed SA over here with the promise of a starter's position (especially at the 2). Now that they won't honor their promise (I don't blame them) they are trying to find a place for him that he wants to go. (They're so nice) He already has a relationship with Layden who probably gave SA the same promise of starter minutes. The Rocks treat their players too good sometimes.
First, as others have posted, the NY Post is confirming this.... and the Rockets would be keeping Rice (though from what they wrote the Rockets are concerned about his health.... strangely his contract alone doesn't scare the hell out of them) Secondly, this scoop came from Doc Rocket, so wanted to make sure he got his props for that and for putting up with me since Wednesday night... "Can I post this now?" .... "Can I post this now?" .... "Can I post this now?" .... Why he didn't want this posted: The thinking was, frustratingly, that the deal could be sabotaged if the story broke, since it was in fact "very close to being done". I told him not only am I willing to take that risk, I hope it does have that effect Also, Doc told me that Bullard has been offered the exception in Charlotte -- not clear if that is all or part of the $4.5 million, but they have made him an offer. If the Rockets are really going to take on Rice's contract, they have to be dealing Walt or letting Bullard walk.
If Rice is (arguably) better than Walt, than the Wizards and Knicks don't need the Rockets. Rice for Jahidi and change makes more sense for both teams. Would the Knicks rather have White at center (moving Camby to PF) or a backup for Alan Houston? As Clutch is poining out - the deal is for Rice. Am I the only one who is digusted by this? 5) Cato 4) Taylor 3) Rice (stealing 30m/g from Griffin, Langhi & Morris) 2) Cat 1) Steve I am bookmarking this and will await the Rice flaming threads. We will see how happy the pro-Rice posters are in the first months of 2002.
Clutch- Thanks for the update. Did Doc Rocket mention anything about Walt being involved in the deal or any interest anywhere else for him? The news about Bull is truly bad news. If it is 4.5 million he would either have to take a paycut to stay or go somewhere else or retire. Bull is not a great player but dang I think we need him in the lockerroom. He has is the last link to the championships and seems to have a great relationship with Stevie & Cat. Despite his limited athletic abilities he busts his tail on the court, something that I wish others would do.
Rice is a great player. He was probably the best pure shooter on the Knicks last year. I remember one game vs. the Heat where Rice shot like 80% from the field. He was just putting them away. He single handedly won that game for us. So anyway, if you give him the ball enough, he'll produce big numbers for you, and I understand his foot feels great and he's ready to play his heart out. You'll get a lot out of Rice.
Thank You Gator, for an intelligent post!! Please, everyone, enough of the "Rice sucks and is overpaid" I know. You know. We all know. There is a purpose RT and CD are doing this, and lets TRY to understand why! ... And Gator just pointed out a very good reason. 1) Involving Cato: If we get ride of him, who are we going to use for a Center? Trading Cato makes less sense than getting Rice. 2) We have plenty of shooters ... why would the Brass want him? 3) Rice is overpaid - It would be best just to let Shandon go and do whatever he wanted than to get a shooter we wouldn't even sign for the exception with in the first place. Keeping this in mind, there HAS to be a reason. And the talks have been around for a while. Maybe first round picks? But our team is already too young and inexperince, unless we want to use picks for future trades. And any pick from NY will not be that high/valuable. Looking at the positives: He is a pretty good 3 point shooter, so maybe they intend to use him exploit the zone. Other than that, I really can't think of anything.
Yes! The Rockets will be an offensive juggernaut next year. Teams can't double off of Rice. A man that can't shoot will have a hard time against man to man with zone principles. I just hope Walt is included in the deal.
This was done on purpose by Clutch. I believe you have 3(?) minutes to edit your post after the initial submit without that "Last edited" comment appearing in the post.
