OK, so everyone agrees that this is a bad deal for the Rockets. So, why would they make this deal? Can anyone put a positive spin on this so that it makes sense for the Rockets? Or would everyone on the BBS just make a better GM than CD?

Gater, just because you don't hear a rumor on the 10:00 sportcenter doesn't mean other teams are not interested. If the Rockets put Rice on the trading block, I'm sure many Gm's will inquire into his availability.

Also, Rice hardly sux man. This guy is still one of the best shooters in the league. He's not a has-been yet, he could become a zone killer extraordinare.

We already have a dead weight contract with Cato, Why add another dead weight like Rice. There should be a CBA player who could shoot almost as good as Rice with at least some defensive skills that we could get cheaper? I would rather keep S Anderson!

    Next year's starting lineup:

    C-Langhi
    PF-Griffin
    SF-Rice
    SG-TMo
    PG-Williams

I take it back. I like this a little better, I think it will create more matchup problems for the opposition:

    C-Williams
    PF-Rice
    SF-Griffin
    SG-Langhi
    PG-Tmo

Yeah, that's better. And if you were wondering what the Knicks lineup will be:

    C-Camby
    PF-Anderson
    SF-Sprewell
    SG-Houston
    PG-Ward

Yea that could be one positive in retaining his service (notice it was singular as in just "shooting"). But what would "Air" Bullard be in this situation?

"Air" Bullard would be coming off the bench as always.

Why in the world would any team want Glen Rice, Walt Williams, Matt Bullard, and Dan Langhi on the same team.

This move HAS to be a domino, or I'm baffled.

So, if this comes to life, Hakeem is gone, Shandon is gone, how's Moochie doing?

Rice's goodbye year is the same year Kidd, SAR, Sheed, KG, McDyess are free agents, and last year's (K-Mart=#1, Miles, Mihm, Fizer, Miller, Swift, etc.) are restricted free agents. Duncan is a free agent, if he plays out his player opt. Of course, this has very little impact on us, since Francis is about to get his 11 mill, but could be some reasoning for someone else to pick him up.

Sorry, but there was actually a point buried in that sarcasm.

    I meant to say....

Rice makes more sense on the Rockets than Anderson does on the Knicks. Their two best players are natural shooting guards so Anderson would end up playing out of position most of the time. Also, Anderson is going to want a long contract that probably represents the same amount of money that Rice's contract is worth in total dollars - 30 mil. Between two players they don't need it seems they would take Rice who will be out of theit hair in 3 years as opposed to 5 or 6.

While it would be a big mistake for Houston, it would be a collosal mistake for New York.

I hope this does not go down. Talk about being a Judas! Refuse to give the Dream a contract over 4.5 a year and then bring in Rice with 3 years and almost 28 million dollar contract! Damn this news pisses me off! The whole point in not paying Dream was cap space to build our young team. If we wanted to sign an old player then we should have just kept Dream and paid him. Christ he is a hell of a lot more usefull to us than Rice!

Uh, CD is "out to lunch" on this one. I'd rather just sign Shandon to a 5 year, $25 deal. Hey, maybe we can trade Rice for Hakeem straight up (after the required waiting time for trading is over, of course).

Hmmm, I've never been one to suggest crackpot, half-baked trades (ex: "Yo, what do U think about Langhi for Kobe?"), but here is an intriguing one:

To NY: The Kelvinator and Shandon Anderson
To Chicago: Glen Rice and Toronto 1st rounder
To Houston: Brad Miller and Luc "I'm gonna retire" Longley

Is this even possible? Am I a genius or on crack? You decide...

I am almost positive that this has to be only part 1 in another trade that we are working on. Getting Glen Rice makes absolutely no sense.

No way do we get Glen Rice. No way, no way, no way! Shandon looks really good right about now.

But I'll wait until the smoke clears to make anymore complaints...

    EVERYBODY CHILL OUT!!!!!!

CD has a made some STUPID deals in the past (Maloney, Cato), but he is not that stupid to bring in Rice. UNLESS, he has a KING KONG TRADE in the works - shipping out Cato, etc.....

If the Rockets S&T for Rice, you can be damn sure that a third team is involved to bring us a center. CD knows that the center position is their most crucial spot.

LOOK AT CD'S PAST RECORD, IF HE MAKES A S&T, THERE ARE ALWAYS MULTIPLE TEAMS (AND PLAYERS) INVOLVED.

CD does not want to look like an idiot this offseason, and I guarantee that he is trying to make a big move to bring in probably more than one impact player to offset HAKEEMS DEPARTURE.

EVEN WITH CAP SPACE NEXT YEAR, THERE ARE NOT ALOT OF PREMIER FA's AVAILABLE

He is probably thinking lets go get them NOWWWWWW!!!!

-If I were NY, I'd do ANYTHING to get rid of Rice's contract. He's the Cato of Manhattan.
