Misinformation. German paper Der Freitag managed to acquire an unredacted .csv file from wikileaks, but has not published any of the documents therein. (FWIW, wikileaks denies the "leak" happened at all, and asserts the paper involved is simply seeking publicity, "a grossly negligent mainstream media error")

I don't think wikileaks has ever published un-redacted cables.

The truth is always more interesting it seems. David Leigh, editor at the guardian published the password to the original files in his new book about wikileaks. The password was then reused (stupidly) by a wikileaks editor (not assange) and this was revealed by domscheit berg in his now well-publicized fight with assange.

Leigh has naturally blamed wikileaks and the press has obliged this viewpoint. Of course the truth
of the matter is that Leigh was idiotic to publish such information in the first place, particularly since in his book he trashes assange for being "cavalier" towards informants...

    Egos. Really mucking stuff up.

EDIT: The password was not re-used - that is inacurrate. The encrypted .csv was released on 28 November 2010, before Leigh's book was written and was (foolishly) left on the public server. DDB pointed out to anyone who would listen that the password shared by Leigh (in breach of the agreement with wikileaks) was still functional....and here we are.

I am at a loss as to how Leigh could have been so stupid.

    EDIT the 2nd:

Link with the story in (more or less) full. Wikileaks is now suing the guardian. Leigh completely and totally ****ed up, and in trying to cover his ass reveals himself to be a total luddite as well.

I really am at a loss as to how Leigh could have been so stupid. You'd think a journalist of his experience would understand the serious nature of the situation and err on the side of caution. Christ.

Speaking of stupid, last night wikileaks blew it up.

The full archive of cables and the encryption key were tweeted at ~11:30pm.

    No redactions.

    Kablooey.

Yeah, they made some dumb mistakes. The Guardian made far dumber ones, IMO, and has been lying rather pathetically to cover their asses after the fact.

But the guy who consistently stoked the fires and pointed out the potential link was DDB. That guy's a dick.

What I'm interested to see is how much publicity the mainstream media gives wikileaks' disintegration as opposed to the actual *content* of the cables and the illegalities therein.

Well, Ron Paul is a badass.

He reads wikileaks cables to congress that reveal the lies regarding Iraq. 20 years of war, predicated on a falsehood. The USA gave saddam the green light to invade Kuwait.

nobody cared about the gulf of tonkin being staged - nobody will care about this either.

these allegations have been out there for years, but to have a congressman saying this in the house is pretty big...but nobody will care.

how can anybody continue to trust this government?

two things, first all, the approval to attack is dubious

secondly, it did not lead to 20 years of war, bush's idiocy led to the last 8 years
