Well damn. That is the last time that I use a quick population google search in the middle of the night.

All of this also ignores the complete cluster that a team in Austin would make of the MLB media territories in Texas.

I don't know about NBA. I think it'd be tough to be the 4th team in the state right smack dab in the middle of Houston, San Antonio, and Dallas. NFL? San Antonio would get a team before Austin, they already have the stadium. I'm not necessarily saying they're a good fit for MLB, but that's probably a better fit than NBA or NFL.

The key is that I said major league sports team, not Major League Baseball team. Austin is clearly one of if not the biggest without one in it's county or nearby except for Vegas due to the obvious issues surrounding it.

Plus, your numbers are off, you switch from city limit population (Austin) to metro (New Orleans) back to city limit (Jacksonville).

Considering I'm black, I find that completely unreasonable and unlikely.

I was upset that the team has to move to the A.L. but would feel better about it if there was an N.L. franchise around so people in Texas and the surrounding states still had an option to watch N.L. baseball instead of the so-called (read: forced) Astros-Rangers rivalry, making Texas, along with Pennsylvania the only states with an even number of teams but with both teams in the same league.

The Alamodome is not, and really never has been, NFL ready, not even really when it was first built. Build cheap, get cheap results. DKR could be upgraded to NFL quality much easier due to it not being constrained to a dome, plus it would be Austin's only major sport with plenty of support from fans in San Antonio, San Marcos, possibly the Southern Panhandle, Hill Country and South Texas. Not all in those regions but since the NFL is a once a week sport that happens 8 times a year spread out over the course of 4 months, it can be done. Plus not everyone is a Texans and Cowboys fan and some may adopt a new team.

It blows my mind that you could mention it in the same breath with such trivial matters as a game, then. Try to explain it away as "extreme" all you like, that was way, way out of line. A baseball fan preferring baseball's "quirkiness", as justtxyank puts it, has absolutely *nothing* in common with anything racist.

Has Tampa or Oakland worked out their stadium issues ? Those are the only 2 teams I could see moving just glancing through the teams.

Even with a brand new stadium Miami couldn't get into the top half attendance this season. For the most part pro sports in Florida just doesn't work.

I would love to see a team relocate to OKC/Austin/San Antonio or some where down south to build a natural rivalry with Texas and Houston....

I don't think DKR would ever be used as an permanent NFL home stadium. I don't think UT would want that and I don't think any NFL owner would want to be 2nd tenant in a college stadium.

Austin would never support building a stadium. There are also no places for it. It would have to go to cedar park or the f1 track south of the airport. Not great for an everyday sport like baseball.

I believe Oakland is looking at having a stadium in Fremont or moving to San Jose.
