rocketrichnyc, i see your online... sooooo... give us some insider info darnit! has jvg been paying any attention to the trade threads in here?
JVG had NEVER coached in a zone defense NBA - until now. This was one of the reasons I wasn't one of the happy ones at the announcement of JVG as coach. I thought/think the Rocket's needed to use the zone since we have a big guy and some players that aren't man-to-man type guys. Teams that use a motion offense are burning us because we get caught on switches or don't switch. The other reason I was one of the thrilled ones was his teams rarely score more than 80 points a game. And his teams had never played against teams that use a zone. We brought in a old century coach for the new century. He will have to adjust to be successful. The question is will he or will he adjust some players. But there are some things he has done and could do. He has brought more discipline and accountability to the team. What he could do is hire a couple more coaches to impliment a new offense and some zone defenses. I've always thought there should be a coach for each position, a coach for the O, a coach for the D and then the head coach. Like it or not JVG not going anywhere for a while. Les is not the kind of man to throw that kind of money away this fast. (Please don't give me Maloney and Moochie as examples to the contrary) Oh and CD is not going anywhere either. What my instincts tell me now is Steve will be traded. The worst part about this off-season is we owe UTAH (that's right - UTAH) our unprotected number 1 pick plus Chicago pick(s). And Utah has a better record than us now. I just can't let this one go. It just pains me that we got raped by UTAH. They rebuild faster while we try to find the right pieces given what we have. But it's still too early to hit the panic button and I'm still hoping for a Rocket playoff.
JVG is definetly not going anywhere. I have accepted that fact. I still hate him tho as a coach and an arrogant person. Anyways, as I said before the season started, only ONE player is untouchable and that is Yao. Everyone else is expendable to JVG. I have not heard any new rumours about player trades coming up. However, I know that JVG is doing his best to coach this team because wants the BIG PRIZE. That big prize is total control of the Rockets after 2 years. Right now he still has to answer to CD, Keith Jones, and of course Les. I think had he become the GM/Coach he would've made a lot of changes to this team before the season started. He wants so badly to be like Pat Riley its sickening. As long as CD and Keith are around, it isn't going to be as easy for JVG to make any kind of personnel move.
Keith has power? I thought he was a trainer or something Anywhoo . . . .I hope we don't look like those old New York Teams that would be . .. .. bbbooorrrriiinnnggggg Rocket River I'm still giving JVG the season to see how he does but i still hold to my standard . . 50~55 games to justify replacing Rudy
Les listens to Keith and has more power than many people think. Why do you think he's still around? If he was just a trainer he could've been replaced by JVG. He's on the coaching staff but officially listed as Trainer/Personnel Liason.
My definition of good/bad coach is this, a). a GREAT coach develops systems based on his players; b). a GOOD coach develops his players into his systems; c). an OK coach gives the ball to players, let'm play; d). a BAD coach always thinks other team have better talent. I know JVG doesn't fit a), but can he fit b)? --daoshi
