The only rudeness I see here is coming from you. Sweetie is entitled to voice her opinion here just like everyone else. If she sounds pessimistic then maybe - just maybe she has a right ot feel this way after enduring yet another display of unwatchable basketball courtesy of the Rockets.
actually, she's always been pesstimistic. she doesn't even sound like a rockets fan because she has nothing constructive to say.
Just because she's pessimistic about the team's chances this year does not make her any less of a Rockets fan. I have been a Rocket fan since their days at Hofheinz Pavilion when there were nights when 200 people showed up to watch the team play. I'm what you'd call an OG Rocket fan and I simply don't believe that they have a realistic chance to make the playoffs this year. That's not pessimism, that's being realistic. I watched this team last year play some of the worse looking, dumbass basketball ever played in the NBA. So far, they appear to have picked up where they left off last year. I watched an offseason where this organization did nothing to address their major weaknesses while every other team in their division got stronger and better. The result? They are simply over-matched against the top teams in their division. For four years now, this team has talked the talk but has showed time and time again that they cannot walk the walk. Until I see concrete proof ON THE COURT, I refuse to delude myself with false optimism about their being a playoff team. Nor will I allow myself to over-estimate the talent on this team anymore until said talent actually goes out and demonstrates that they can actually play winning basketball. Judging from the mess that they put on tonight, that's gonna be a loooonnng wait.
therefore, we have a new coach and a new staff you don't really expect them to just get the new system and forget everything they learned from the past, do you? of course it's gonna be a long wait. it's not easy to get all 12 guys to learn the new system and perform it along with a few injured ones. plus, i'm here because i want to. she's the one who said "Thats why Im kinda wondering why bother posting"
They are all lazy, too damn lazy. Play the game with some tabasco up your ass and you win every time.
The new coach and staff are nothing more than a bandaid on the problem. You hit upon the the real problem: this is a team that has developed a lot of bad, losing habits over the past 4 years of lottery ball. I find it unrealistic to continue to HOPE that they will "change" because to date they have yet to even show that they possess the ability to do so. That's why I 've always felt that by the time JVG turns this ship around, a lot of these guys won't be on the team. BTW, Sweetie posted that because she's gets ruthlessly and personally attacked for merely voicing her opinion which is what this BBS is all about - the voicing of opinions.
Just because the Rockets get a pretty good blow out by the Kings doesn't mean that we have to blame it on a particular person, or being blown out by any other team for that matter. The Kings did good today and the Rockets didn't, plain and simple and the team is still learning. Lets give them a break
well, at least let them prove themselves. how do you expect a team to prove themselves when no one is giving them a chance? so you're saying you'd rather keep all players right now.. and have our team play like this, than have jvg try to change some things around to see if we can get a 3rd trophy for the rockets and the fans? yeah, i love the players we have now, but we gotta do what we gotta do. so.. you don't wanna trade any of the players but you want a winning team. hmm so that leaves us to getting a new coaching staff and the new coaching staff would have to work around the team's abilities and habits.. interesting oh i'm sorry then, sweetie is the victim. she brings it upon herself. i've read many posts from her, and i understand why she gets "attacked." have you read pradaxpimp's post? i bet you he's never been "personally attacked." why? because of the way he voices his opinion.
I think sweetie is a visionnary...pretty soon (ie when we're 12-15), people here are gonna start calling for JVG to go, maybe not instead but as well as saying that Steve and Cat suck...JVG bashing is coming to a BBS near you in december... BTW, this is not a learning year for this team anymore. It's time to win, because we've waited long enough...
Agreed. At some point a team's coach has to see the problem and implement change. Sure the players are the ones on the court... but they, for the most part, are just running what the coach intructs them to. While it may be early to ask his resignation of firing, way, way, way too early, JVG has to correct our "collapsability" himself before the Houston fans will get in fully and support him and the team. He should be able to get the right rotation down soon... As I've said before, if by mid-January we're still looking lost every other game (but now two in a row - an alarming first), then look out... the fans around here will bandwagon hop like nutty. It's like the "What song best describes this season" thread that AB had... One of my picks was "What Have You Done For Me Lately" -this could begin to be the theme of the fans... and the new arena, new uni, and new coach won't matter one iota unless the new coach starts getting the guys in the new uni to win both in and out of the new arena with a new ferver and new passion. Be Big...ger. As in teach them youngins a thing or two, make them grow up. And check out the rogaine tannersearle78 mentioned, dude... my goodness.
Another area to blame JVG is the inability of the offense to penetrate and get fouls. (seems like Boki is the only one able to do it every game) Notice the FT deficiencies in the last 10 games? Our opponents shot 66 more free throws than the Rox!! (In the Utah game Yao had no choice but tried to get as many fouls as possible and went to the line 16 times, but in that game our FT advantage is only +6, take that game away and the trend is even more obvious) Going along with this is the tendency to shoot more long threes and end up having fewer shots and fewer FTs than our opponents. Got to make a change when it's clear that we are not playing smart basketball with reasonably passing. The Kings showed us how it can be done, and we're supposed to be as talented as Sac.
Carrol Dawson: Hey there Jeff. Thanks for coming on in buddy. Oh, I see you brought your agent. JVG: Yeah, you said it was important. J's A: Hello Carrol, how's the family? CD: What? Oh, fine, fine. Listen, Jeff, we have to have ourselves a sit down here. JVG: Oh yeah? What about? Are we in trade talks? Cause I have a few thoughts... CD: No, no Jeff. It's not that. Well, you see Jeff, there comes a time...this is the hardest part of my job, but, well... J'sA: Hang on. There's no way...Jeff have you been arrested and haven't old me? JVG: No. What? J'SA: DId you make out with the owner's wife? CD & JVG: WHAT!?!? J'sA: Oh...heh...nothing. Sorry, CD, just sounded like you were warming up to...heh...nah, can't be. My mistake. You were saying? CD: Uh...er...yeah...where was I? JVG: Hardest part of your job... CD: Right. Well, Jeff, it's like this. I'm afraid we're going to have to go another way. J's A: So I was right! Ok, Jeff, what did you do? DUI? I can fix that...are you on hoppers? Coke? What...tell me, that's my job. JVG: No, I...what? Wait...hang on a sec...you ( to agent) stop jumping around...( to CD) You're...wait...you're firing me? CD: Well, yeah, Jeff, but come on...you can't say you're surprised. JVG: I can't? CD: Well, just look at the facts. JVG: Which facts are those? We're winning, we're on pace to make the payoffs, maybe get homecourt...what am I missing here? CD: Well, sure, Jeff, if you want to be simplistic about it, it looks good on the surface... JVG: So get complicated. CD: Well...we know that Steve is really struggling. JVG: Uh-huh. CD: Cat has been really hot and cold. Come on, we can admit that much, right? JVG: Right. CD: And Yao hasn't exactly set the world on fire. JVG: Ok. So you see our point. JVG: So...our 3 best players are struggling or eratic, and we're still winning, and in position to make the playoffs...that's what you're pointing out? CD: Exactly! I knew we could be adult about this! J's A: Can I.. JVG: Wait. So you hired me to win...right? CD: Well...Jeff, come on, you're getting simplistic again. We were making such progress. JVG: And the last time you guys made the playoffs was when, exactly? CD: Now, Jeff, there's no sense getting personal about this... JVG: Right. Question...I just want to see if I've got this right. I've taken a team that hasn't made the playoffs in years, that's been losing for a while now, and even though our 3 best players are playing erratically, I've still got us winning and headed to the playoffs. And you want to fire me? CD: Jeff! I knew you'd see that thos was best for everyone...come on, let's have some bar-b-que, and forget this unpleasantnes. Did I ever tell you about the time I taught Dream to...Jeff? Jeff...where are you going? Jeff!?!?
