Unfortunately, I'm a burb dweller right now......Pearland. It made sense when I worked in Texas City and the wife worked downtown, but now we're wondering why we don't live inside the loop. Oh well.......at least there's really good Indian food out here.
DAMN! Now I know why it's so hard for you to find good bread. I guess the only thing that you can do is wait for times when you are inside the loop, or go to the Randalls down in your area. Either that or if you are ever in my neck of the woods, go to Beldens (Chimney Rock and Braeswood). They have good baked stuff.
jimmy johns makes absoltely delicious subs, although their italian isn't my favorite (the beach club..... freakin' awesome). the best italian sub i've had was at the delaware subs in san marcos. it is a chain, but i'm not sure if there's one in houston.
Personally, I'm not a huge fan of subs, but I'd still take Jason's Deli any day of the week over Subway, Blimpie, or Quizno's. Those fast food places are just too damn expensive, IMO. My favorite Deli is Kahn's in the Village. And if you haven't ordered a sandwich from Spec's deli, you're missing out. The best Italian sub you make at home. Ingredients: Italian bread Salami Prosciutto Ham Fresh Basil Tomatoes (sliced) Olive oil Garlic Salt Pepper Mince the garlic (or use garlic powder) with the Olive Oil. Brush vigorously on the top half of the sandwich. Sprinkle top loaf with salt and pepper. Place the remaining ingredients on the sandwich and come back to this thread swearing by my culinary virtues, once again. (The fresh Basil is the secret)
actually fatty, prosciutto and salami are both strong, salty tastes and cancel one another out. salami with a boiled ham would be better. i would never ruin prosciutto, if you are talking about the genuine article, with so many miscellaneous extras.
To each their own. I use about a 3-1 ratio of Salami to Prosciutto mix. And we're talking deli-meats with both.
How is this not an Italian Sub? That makes no sense. An Italian friend of mine showed me how he did his. I added the prosciutto, but other than that, his was the same. Neither of you know what you are talking about, especially if you think you're getting an Italian Sub at a Sub shop.
