Even though Houston did not make a huge FA acquisition, it allowed us to be very flexible for the great 2016 Free Agency where Lebron and Durant could be available especially.

If Howard doesn't decline a lot athletically. And our young players including James Harden continues to develop. Then we will still be a great spot for FA to come to Houston. Harden could be be the only contract on the books at the end of the 2016 season ( if Dwight opts out ) which he will be making about 17million dollars. The cap is expected to go up to 80million or so so with the talent of Howard and Harden we could still attract a great FA. I believe also we own both Harden and Howards bird rights. So we could sign free agent All Stars right up the to salary cap. Then re-sign Howard who will have his bird rights.

Thats a logical explanation on why we would let Parsons walk. I'm not 100% sure we will have Howards bird rights, but im pretty sure we do.

It's been too long. We aren't in bide our time mode anymore. Those days are over. Time to strike. The fans, management, players, coaches, city - we're not looking to the future anymore. The time is now.

nice. then if we strike out...then we can keep angling for 2018 FA or 2020!!

i like the ariza signing....but also how many times can we keep angling for some stars that don't wanna be here. focus on building the best team possible now...we got our two top 10 players and we gotta capitilize. resign parsons, and keep building.

We need to make sure we keep our cap open for 2019 when Sim Bhullar becomes a free agent for the fifth year in a row.

You GARM guys are so pessimistic and illogical sometimes. ;)

We are not building our team to be like the 2000-2014 Knicks throwing around huge contacts left and right in win now mode. Or how Joe Johnson got that huge deal just for the Hawks to be a playoff team. Recently after Lebron came back to Cleveland he even admitted its hard to win a championship.

Why go all in for a team that cant even beat the Blazers, and whom no free agents other than Ariza committed to? We have great young players still, and flexibility. They will develop over the next 2 years. It Hurts seeing Asik and Lin go.

But we cant change the past, they are gone, and we did not get any marquee Free Agents.

Think long term, do not be like some politicians.

so you suggest for us to not match parsons. and then keep preserving capspace for 2016. suffer a couple more first round exits. then think with dwight 2 years older, harden 2 years older...and capspace that somehow FA's who aren't interested now...will be more interested 2 years down the line. the more likely scenario is that dwight will choose to leave cuz he was stuck on a team that lost in the first round 3 straight years instead of hoping to get something in FA again to try to improve the team.

you have to think about the future yes. but you have to think about it smart as well. we aren't the knicks, cuz we have our TWO stars to build around. like you said. winning a championship is hard. so when you have two guys who are very good now, you surround em with guys like bev, ariza, parsons and keep growing/adding pieces to that core...then you very well could be in a position to win that championship a year or two from now.

Yeah! let's save money for the long term!

try telling that to dwight and harden, and they're leaving as soon as they can. dwight is already opting out in 2 seasons anyways. we need to do everything we can to win, or remain as attractive to future free agents. not matching contracts and not spending the extra money isn't attractive to future free agents.

Dwight being 2 yrs older will be the only negative a sin Harden will be 26 most players primes are from 28-30 or so.

But my point is based on "reality." How can we win now? What moves would you do base don "now?"

Would Parons allow us to compete for a championship this upcoming season?
