I liked the trades. Felt they didnt get enough though. Basically my stance is this. If your gonna rebuild? You cannot rebuild and go halfway through with it. Maybe he turns those picks into a top 5 pick in a weak draft? Maybe he doesnt? How about not waste any picks to move up and make sure you get at least one player by going all in then? Perhaps one of those lower tier teams does give you a top draft pick for Martin? Then you let young guys play fully. You do end up winning less this season but get a higher draft pick next year. Then you also receive a higher draft pick from trading Kevin Martin for one. You have your own high draft pick and the one that came from Kevin Martin being traded and you have the lower round firsts still. You keep them all or trade the top two for one of the top three picks next year. Why didnt he just do that is all I ask? Maybe he had no takers but Kevin Martin is a pretty big piece to have for that kind of move and maybe he still is on draft day? That will come after we have a semi decent season with him still here after lowering our own draft pick.
Ya...injuries had nothing to do with it. We took a gamble and we got far. We were a 50+ win team 2 years ago but look at us now. We're a mediocre team. Those trades will help us in the long run with future trades and possibly a star among the draft (though unlikely). Regardless we're in rebuilding mode whether u like it or not.
Thabeet will be a solid center next season with his change of scenery, Dragic will be a good pg. all of those who diasagree unsubscribe from CF when ur s*** talking looks dumb in the future
Keep telling yourself. Brooks was done in a Rockets uni a while back. Good luck to him.. DM stroked his wand once again and we came out winners in the trade.
Winners ha Brooks was slumping, absolutely true. If you are going to trade him, then FFS wait till he gets better and get more value. Trading a player when his value is in the toilet is stupid. I am a Morey HOMER true and true, but these deals were not very good. These reeked of making a trade just to make a trade.
We have the pieces to surround a big impact guy with and insantly be in contention after a couple more shrewd Morey-style moves. Kevin Martin, Luis Scola, Courtney Lee, Goran Dragic, Thabeet will all be pieces that can be key to spark a championship run, you just have to have the star talent to match them with, and that's what we lack. Like DM said in the press conference, we have some young guys that can become stars in this league, and I think he sees TWill and Patterson as those guys. The former can score slashing or off the dribble, pass and play hard-nosed defense. The latter has the tools to be a great scorer and rebounder, and Morey is playing his cards right - either they turn into the elite players they have the potential to be, or he swings the right deal for a current star when the opportunity presents itself.
Get better value? How? Over the off season with the possibility of lockout? After the injury and losing starting PG, he's been a huge slump. Not because he's playing poorly but his mentality is a huge issue. The technicals he's been getting, the continuous "I run into 4 people and make a bad pass", the over dribbling which results in a turnover (not mostly but it has happened a lot). The fact that we got Dragic and a first round pick is simply amazing. I haven't seem much of his game but I have watched enough to know that he's more of a True PG and has better basketball IQ (much better) than AB which is more than you can ask for especially for a Back up. The fact that he was a Backup to Steve Nash can only mean he has more room to shine (meaning more minutes) or he's a quality backup PG. Regardless this move is much better than I expected especially the way AB has been playing.
I actually have mixed feelings about this trade. I've never been high on Thabeet and I think we could have gotten more out of a Brooks+Battier package, but any trade we were going after, other teams were able to put together better packages. The key here is that we got future picks for players that were not in our long-term plans. We're also going to begin to see what Lowry+Lee+Budinger can do with extended minutes and maybe get to see what Terrence Williams can bring to this team. Clearly, if he can avg 28ppg/11.3rpg/10.7apg in the D-League... the guy belongs in the NBA..but will be successful in the Pros is to be seen. And if Thabeet turns into a player that can give you about 8ppg/8rpg/2bpg...I think i'll be more than ecstatic about that. I think for the time being, we'll be better served if we send Thabeet to the D-League. I can see the rotation looking this come Saturday.. Lowry/Dragic Martin/T-Will Lee/Budinger Scola/PatPat Hayes/Miller/Hill/Thabeet
How can you trade a guy after the dateline? In the off-season? with Aaron as a FA? in a probably lock out season? Please tell me how.
Ya we dont need him to score. We just need him to develop a better defensive presence than he is right now. If we can mold him to a Mutumbo like player, that would definitely be a big plus. As of now, our defense is going to suffer so much =(.
You sir probably never seen Dragic play. He's actually a pass first point guard that's actually does what point guards do and more. I think the Suns got screwed trading that piece for Brooks who will never be a true point but once healthy will run anyone to death. You need to watch the guy play. It's Thabeet that I feel will amount to nothing...
Just a question to keep in mind: Was the trade necessary? Will it help us tank or help us push harder into the Playoffs? Did Morey did it for the sake of Yao Ming's injury? (There is many more but other questions may have been answered)
morey's drunk as hell but it's the fans who throwin up we'll have to go mubarak on le$ to ever get that lux tax threshold blown up would be even less disgusted if we'd traded for that floppin jazzhole AK i gotta say it was (not) a good day
