It makes no sense for this team to be so bad defensively

Unfortunately,I do think it does make sense .

your offense fuels your defense and vice versa and our offense is putrid.

Also our best player is out , he’s our only average frontcourt defender . Tate is versatile , but is still a rookie and is better at guarding 2/3 than 4/5 . He’s no prime pj when it comes to being a small-ball force.

speaking of pj .. he’s not sacrificing his body for us this year . Not when he’s hoping for a trade / gonna be a FA .

wall and dipo have high upsides as defenders , but no familiarity/ are coming off injury .

frankly it’s lucky that nwaba and wall have been as good as they are . gordon been having a pretty good year too .

but the bottom line is that you can’t have a good D without a rim protector unless your small ball lineup is just fantastic, and even when it’s good teams will crack you inside ... you just have to be raining 3’s in response. We are just looking impotent on both sides right now .

The Rockets are bad, as they should be to get that top 4 pick. It's tough to watch but I get it and see Stone's vision

 

Our defense is bad because our offense is atrocious. If you're bricking long threes all game it's hard to set your defense with all the long rebounds.

yes they are probably the all time top 10 defensive team in the NBA in GARBAGE TIME because it started so early in every game.

 

Yes it does, they are trying to lose and letting Oladipo inflate his numbers to try to get more at the trade deadline.

You have to score to win thats the reason they keep track of points.

 

Of course it makes sense that we are bad defensively.

a) we are playing young guys/ role players bigger minutes
b) we have used so many different lineups
c) we have 1 guy taller than 6'6
d) we don't have consistent scorers (due in part to (a))

All of the above contribute to a bad defence. Defensive prowess is based on chemistry, experience, scoring yourself (to get a set defence from the inbounds) and closing out possessions with a defensive rebound.

There is potential for the defence to be better, but it will take time.

Just embrace the tank for the next 2 years. The joy comes later.

This is just stupid. I know we're tanking but the overall team size has been an issue for a few years now. The wing players are too damn small and they have no quality bigs.

 

Defense is now bottom 5.
