I have thought they were done for a long time, just hoped I was wrong, unfortunatly I was right. This thread is about what to do with the remainder of the season so we come back next year, and avoid this meandering mediocrity, agree or not? Deal, or no deal? DD
Someone who has no problem benching players that are consistently slumping. Someone that pulls a reliever when they are in obvious trouble. Someone that doesn't sit our better hitters against lefties and replace them with hitters who's average is worse then the starter's lefty average. Someone that isn't afraid to rip into a team when they need an obvious boost due to lack of clubhouse leadership (young team like ours). Someone that walks the NL MVP when there are two on in the ninth inning. Someone who doesn't change the lineup everyday for the majority of the season tinkering. I don't blame Garner for all of our struggles (he's not batting or pitching), but I think you have to be blind to not see that his mistakes have hurt the team this season.
Garner should be fired for being so stubborn and plugging lidge in there when he is clearly done. Whoever didn't trade lidge for tehada should also be fired.
i think it was that the o's wouldn't trade tejada...not that the astros wouldn't have traded lidge. please note that tejada is STILL playing for the orioles.
So Garner shows up and leads the team to its first EVER playoff series win, then the next year takes them to the World Series. They miss the playoffs once and now he should be gone?
I don't actually have a problem with most of what Garner has done, and he deserves to start fresh next year. DD
Buck Turdigson, I am sorry for my outburst. And yes I used to post a lot on Astros DAily, but I have more of a life now so I don't post on the internet or write in my AOL sports Blog much anymore. I met a girlfriend and I am serious now. I know my spelling is not very well, but I cannot edit my posts. I had a friend check this for spelling and english. I just love the Houston Astros and The Houston Texans and The Houston Rockets. My heart gets pumping when my teams play. I still want to write for the Houston Chronacle and I wont let mean guys on the internet stop me! Arkoe, Thanks for letting me know about the moderrator elections. Looks like I wont be one.
- I would like to see the team just win. Have fun. Play hard. Give us a reason to look forward to next year. I.E. Don't just pack it in please. I don't think they will though. -I would like to see Burke get more playing time; the more at bats the better. -I agree throwing Ensberg out there and see if he can show signs of turning it around. Knowing if he can bounce back is key; and the sooner the better. -I'd also like to see House brought up and given more playing time. See what he can at the plate. That could be one less thing to worry about in the offseason if he can provide anything offensively (which is pretty much better than Ausmus) -I think we know what Buccholz brings at this point; same for Hirsch (pretty sure he'll be in the starting rotation next season) But Sampson is an unkown; he has shown good signs but it's such a small sample size. Let him start over Wandy. -I dunno if Lidge can turn it around for next year; I still have hope. But it might be good to see what Nieve can do in a closer's role. So give him a shot. Still give Lidge opportunities though. You don't wanna break his confidence completely because his future is still uncertain. Like I said, I still think he can turn it around.
Sorry - Bobby Cox doesn't bench consistently slumping players. He does exactly the opposite - and keeps running them out there. See Marcus Giles the last few years. Nor does he bench struggling relievers. He never rips into his team when it's struggling. In fact, he seems the exact opposite of what you believe to be a good manager. Girardi? Based on 100 games? He shuffles his lineup virtually every damn day. He never rips into his team. He didn't bench his players struggled early. So yeah, I have another question. Name an actual manager that fits the criteria you listed.
It is time for the Astros to....... Get a large hot dog with extra relish and spicy mustard. Buy one of those oversized foam fingers. Point at the screen when the other teams are in the post-season. And eat the hot dog.
How could "mean guys on the Internet" stop you? Seriously, if you want to write for the Houston Chronicle or any publication, you need to get serious about grammar, spelling, and form. Writing is about so much more than one's opinion. When you head into college (and I do hope you are not yet college age), your most important classes are English and Literature--because if you're really passionate about writing, you need to learn how. I'm not saying this to be mean-spirited.
Castor27, please merge THIS and all the other 12310277712 threads DaDarkone has created to come in here and whine about the Astros, instead of cheering them on. Seems like this is all he's here for, DaDarkone. You didn't hope ANYTHING. Stop lying.
I'd like for the Astros to re-visit the Tejada trade this offseason and bring in "El Caballo" Carlos Lee. It would also be nice if Andy P. comes back. Two out of three of these would be nice, all three would be great.
