On being posted up, Francis is listed at 195 lbs and Mobley at 210 lbs on NBA.com. Since they were weighed years ago and Francis has bulked up considerably, I guess right now Francis is at about 205 to 210 lbs. Not a big difference in weight and strength from Mobley.
How about Griffin and Rice to Milwaukee in a sign and trade for Gary Payton? That way we get to keep Mobley as a sixth man, and Payton gets a good salary on a three year deal (an additional inducement to come here). Re-sign Posey, and sign Horry as the back-up PF for the MCE. At the end of games, we would have our choice of Mobley, Payton or even Posey to guard the big SGs like Kobe, etc.
huh.. interesting.. if we really could get payton for griffin and rice... just maybe it could work. I don't like giving up griffin... and I don't like that payton is getting on in age, but this could be a good jump start for the team to make a solid playoff run. Screw Horry though.
If you run the offense through Ming, it doesn't matter if you have a point guard or not. The Bulls never had a point guard. Kenny Smith wasn't really one.
That's absolutely true, that's why all this move francis talk is ultimately meaningless; he's the same player no matter what you call him.
GREAT POST! Francis cannot really defend many guys. But he can if he tries. But most people cannot defend him. But who is that guy who can shoot and defend 2's???? Gary Payton maybe. Griffin and Rice...our front court wouldn't be that great if we gave them up. But if Steve really wants to move to the 2...then Payton could do all right. He's not that good of a shooter. Anyways...I'd rather get Elton Brand and keep Francis at the 1 than getting Gary Payton and moving Steve to the 2. But it's not suicide for Steve to move to the 2.
I would trade Mobley for Jaric straight up. Call it what you like but this would be a case of addition by subtraction. With Jaric you get someone that can play the point with a pass first attitude. Since he is 6' 6'' and quick he can guard the oppenents SG allowing Francis to play the SG position on offense. As for power forward I would go after Karl Malone and sign him for two years for the MCE. He would allow EG to have more time to mature ala Jeramane O'neal of the pacers. What did it take him like 5 years to get where he is? I bet Portland regrets let him go so cheap. Then I would also do the Glen for Glen Trade as well as to try and dump Cato's contract and Taylor's for a back up SF and SG.
I wouldn't. I wouldn't trade Mobley for Desmond Mason straight up. Maybe Cassell...but no. ONLY ONE I WOULD TRADE FOR HIM STRAIGHT UP IS BRENT BARRY. Only if Seattle would accept. And maybe Lamar Odom.
Exactly. Mobley does NOT see himself as a third option. And LA Fadeaway...have you watched the Rockets play most of this season? Moving Francis to the two and shipping Mobley (and another player) to get a solid-good point would be AWESOME. I -- and others -- have seen Francis single-handedly beat Kobe, Fisher, Artest, Christie, and the other players regarded as good/great defenders off the dribble and TORCH them for high-scoring games. He's a super-talent. One of the biggest problems for a guy like Francis is MIXING his offense with getting others involved. Iverson, Jordan, Isiah Thomas had the same problem. When players like this KNOW they can get their shots off @ any time, it is tough for them to not try and score much. Moving Francis to the SG would take pressure off him in feeling like he can't take this shot or that shot because of the title of being the PG. But with that said, you have to trade Mobley so Yao can get those shots in the offense. And like Duece said, the defense Francis would have to play against 'two's won't be greater than the defense they'll have to play AGAINST Francis. And really, what players in the league can guard the Kobe's T-Mac's, PP's, and other great SG's in the league? So just b/c Francis wouldn't be able to isn't anything different from just about EVERY other player not being able to. *hehe*
Wait, you don't mean Jason Williams of the Memphis Grizzles, right? Because you can't be talking about Jay Williams from th Bulls...the "most NBA-ready player, who is as close to can't miss as you can get; best player in the 2002 draft; player the Rox should take over Yao Ming," right? Man, if you think he's untouchable now, you haven't watched too many Bulls games.
I want it to work but as of now Im not so sure it will because when I watch Francis play I almost always see him pass up the kind of wide open shots that come from direct passes from his teammates. If he recieves a pass say from Yao and he's open on the perimeter, he usually passes up the oppourtunity to quickly catch and shoot while he's open and instead elects to isolate and dribble and take a much more difficult shot. Maybe he can change and become a little more like Iverson, but one needs a lot of energy, smarts, and trust in his teammates to be constantly moving without the ball and running around picks and through screens. It will be interesting to see if Francis has the patience and energy to adapt to such a new style.
Overall I agree. That's the same problem I see when Moochie and Francis are on the court at the same time....too small!
