USC and Notre Dame are the Knicks and Lakers of the college football media. The media will almost always favor a USC team over a comparable team from somewhere else in the country. Have you noticed that the media calls USC the two-time national champions while conveniently forgetting that LSU won the BCS game?
F*ck*ng thread title is stupid. There's already many more threads devoted to this, and it's going over to the D&D if ya'll don't stop fightin' about this CRAP. Bush is deserving it. I haven't seen his games enough, so I can't really say it, but I have seen his stats. Vince Young deserves it, since this is not a TEAM award, it's an individual award. I know they don't look at "leadership" for the award, so it's BUSH. Why can't we merge this and the other thread with the poll?
Really, the only edge I give Bush is in the return game. he gets to impact a second part of the game, and that impact changes games.
The BCS themselves also give credit to USC for splitting the title: http://www.bcsfootball.org/index2.cfm?page=timeline 2003 For the only time since the BCS was formed, there is a split national champion. LSU finishes atop the coaches' poll by beating Oklahoma in the Sugar Bowl in a pairing of the top two teams in the BCS Standings. USC, ranked first in both polls on Bowl Selection Sunday, is left out of the BCS championship game when the Trojans finish third in the BCS standings. But USC wins the Associated Press' championship after beating Michigan in the Rose Bowl. Like everyone else in the world, the media credits USC with a split national title. Just as the media credits UT's with 3 national titles even though we only won one of the polls as well in one of the years. USC won a national title in the 2003 season. So did LSU. Period. Until there's a playoff, there can always be split national titles. Nothing the BCS did changes that in any way, shape, or form.
At least he warns us of the "senseless" post in his sig. As a diehard Longhorn fan, it's painful to say that Bush is going to win it, but he deserves it. Even though I think Vince deserves it just as much. I'm not trying to start an argument or anything, but I honestly think SportsCenter and the media won it for Bush. There was just so much talk about Bush throughout the entire season, even on a Wednesday on SportsCenter, you'd get a 3 minute piece praising Bush for everything he has done. With that said, I'm not saying he doesn't deserve it, but it sure helps when you're on tv the most and that you have another Heisman candidate throwing you passes. I just would have loved a little more exposure for Vince. Highest QB rating in the nation, 26TDs passing, 9TDs rushing, 12-0 record, shattering almost all of UTs offensive records, and showing more leadership characteristics that I've seen in a very long time. Oh well, maybe next season. Congrats to Reggie Bush.
Reggie Bush was not on TV as much as Vince was. Vince Young receives just as much hype (that is why I hate on him so much, remember?). They both were great this year. Reggie Bush was just better. And the country wants bush because he is so damn exciting. What is Bush Avg Yards per carry? But then again Fitzgerald should have got it over white (he was amazing and all over sportscenter).
Come on guys, nobody outside of the UT homer area thinks Young should win this and nobody outside of that same area is going to vote for him. Young is more important to his team, but Bush is the best college football player in the nation and he'll win it. You can't take anything away from Bush just because White is on that team as well, you can't punish a guy for having a talented teammate.
To continue a very fitting analogy referenced above, nobody outside of the Rockets homer area thought that Hakeem should win the MVP in 1995. Funny how opinion changed, huh? Young is a dynamic rushing threat - better than that of many running backs. On top of that, he's also the #1 rated passer in the entire nation and is considered the absolute leader of a 12-0, conference championship team that is has dominated almost every team on the schedule and is playing for the national championship. Bush, meanwhile, splits carries with a teammate and has a passing game led by a Heisman winner to take pressure off the ground attack. Despite that, Bush is a special player. However, to consider it "homerism" to think VY is at least equally deserving of the award reeks of some pretty severe bias. Take off the blinders. Bush is a great player, but you don't have to put down Vince Young to make his case. It's possible for two arguments to have merit.
Will Reggie McNeal's benching for the biggest game of the Aggie season hurt his chances for the heisman this year?
I say it ain't over 'till the fat heisman lady sings. It's not in stone yet, and "it is [not] over, Reggie Bush [has not gotten] the Heisman !" You know what I mean. The thread title should be a question, or at least an opinion. But it's not... it makes it seem like the dang Heisman ceremony was when double D started this thread. That's what I am talking about. I haven't said he won't, or that he will, just that the title is silly.
I completely disagree (suprsing huh? ) I have never seen a college football team get so much exposure than this USC team. They were in some form or fashion on Sports Center almost every single night. They had the special "Chasing History" a regular feature on their. Bush was the most publicized player in college sports this season, hands down. And with good reason too, he is very exciting. I have never seen so much coverage on one college football team than this year's USC team. They were absolutely everywhere. I really don't want to get into this again, but how can you say Bush was just better? What are you basing this on? Highlights?
So what would you say if Vince averaged 1 more yard per pass attempt than Bush's avg? Or if Bush has over 2,600 all purpose yards, and Vince has over 3,100? I'm impressed by Bush's running, but it's not like he blows Vince out of the water.
The weird thing is, is that a dynamic running back like Bush is so mediocre in the return game. You'd think that with so much space and a chance to get a head of steam he'd destroy teams - maybe something's wrong with USC's blocking on special teams. On the hype issue - when ESPN runs a five minute segment on Sportscenter about how Vince Young was instrumental to the Longhorn's success despite not touching the ball after he has a bad game - I'll agree with you that the Longhorns got as much hype as USC.
I dont think White will be Texas' problem. Hes a power runner, and runs up the middle. Texas is good at stopping that. However, they have trouble guarding the option and anyone who rushes outside. So RB is going to be a big problem.
They have won the last two championships and a whole lot of games in a row. they have the most electric player in college football and one of the most famous QBs in college history. There is good reason they are on every night, that said he will not win because of that. Ut gets more than their share and so does vince. He blew his chances the week bush got 500 yards and Vince did nothing against a horrible A&m team. Sorry but thats the truth. Young could have won it most years, but bush was just too great this year
