You do realize that replacing "Israel" with "Palestine" in your statement above also makes perfect sense, if not moreso.

What is the real difference between a terrorist and a hero?

The chinese call dali lama a terrorist many in the world call him a hero.

What Israel is doing is just as bad as what hamas did. When you have to stoop down to your enemies level how are you any better than them?

Did you guys even look at theCabbage's posted video?

Now, if you just remove your America-centric blinders for 10 seconds and listen to the voices condemning Israel all over the world, you would see Israel's idiocy.

Alternatively, if you prefer human interest, try here:
    http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/middle_east/7811896.stm
or here, if you prefer international diplomacy:
    http://www.cnn.com/2006/WORLD/meast/11/11/un.israel/index.html
or if you absolutely need an Israeli to show you the light of reason, try here:
    http://www.time.com/time/world/article/0,8599,1869325,00.html

If you're honestly Israel's friend, you ought to at least try to save them from themselves.

I watched the video and it was gut wrenching. There is nothing pretty about war. Hamas is willing to sacrifice its own people to continue firing rockets into Israel. Do you not accept that this is an act of war?

I like to compare any Israeli military operation to a basketball play. They know the ultimate goal, but they have a "shot clock" before the international community, comprised of a large number of jew-hating arab states (yes I said that correctly), forces Israel to back down before anything gets done (ie: Ground war vs Hezbollah that was stopped prematurely).

Nobody wants war... In fact, I'm TIRED of defending Israel every time something happens. Whether it be a suicide bombing (the excuses were "its a brutal occupation, look what you made the poor suicide bomber do!"), a stolen vehicle used to run over innocent people or Rockets fired randomly into cities, the arab world still continues to place the blame on jews rather than the process to palestinian statehood which is failing miserably. I'm TIRED of defending Israel every time a palestinian child dies or a house is bulldozered. I'm TIRED of hearing about settlement expansion.

I will also never forget the day that Israel traded a sick criminal for the bodies of kidnapped and murdered soldiers. Nobody won that day and yet there was much celebration in Syria and in the arab world. I felt the hate and it was demoralizing. The light at the end of the tunnel for peace is not getting any closer. If you can't negotiate peace, then war is the only option. :(

All in all, this sucks... war sucks. I'm TIRED of this thread too and seeing so much hate seething from the teeth of certain people such as yourself Lil.

There is blame to go around on both sides but what Israel is doing in Gaza is horrible. Obama's silence is troubling but not suprising. I am hopeful that eventually more progressive jewish lobby groups such as J Street can prove to be a counterweight to AIPAC which seems to push Likud-like positions. Perhaps then, our politicians and media can have a more honest discussion of what is needed from both sides to bring peace.

I respect your reason and your position. Yours is the only post I feel compelled to respond to.

You're absolutely right. This thing sucks. I hope this thing ends ASAP and everybody can just learn to get along.

I do not feel ashamed about this hate. I hate war. I hate aggression. I hate occupation. I hate ghettos. I hate watching innocent children burned to death with white phosphorous. I hate refugee/concentration camps. I hate ethnic cleansing. And above all, I hate regimes that perpetrate these crimes against humanity. And if there are people on this board who do not hate these things, the problem is with them, not me. In the world, far more people will agree with me than with Israel.

Looks like I touched a nerve!

    The truth hurts doesn't it?

If even a simple objective observation of prevailing worldwide muslim (i should really say non-US/Israeli) sentiment brings all of your fears to the surface, perhaps it's time to do a little bit of reflection? If you are truly students of the Holocaust, then you should know what happened to the Nazis after Nuremburg. You guys seem to lack the same sense of common decency that was missing in those Nazis. In much the same way, the dumbasses running Israeli right now also seem to be making the same mistake that the Nazi's made: HUBRIS, as if they are above international law, justice, and karma.

Rather than resorting to ignorant and classless name-calling, why don't you folks stop being mindless brainwashed Americans for one second and read the title of this damn thread? I pity you guys.

You're the one suggesting that nuking a country off the face of the earth wouldn't be a bad thing, and then you are surprised when people react.

It's hard to stop being American when one isn't even American. The title of this damn thread is idiotic, but you managed to exceed the idiocy of the title by far.

President Truman suggested this same thing with atomic bombs, and it happened. The United States used terrorism to achieve a political goal with Japan, which was surrender.

If Iran were to do the same, how would they be no different from us?

In my opinion, Israeli expansion in the West Bank brought about the situation, so I'm sticking to my opinion. Sure, Israel helping to turn Gaza into a giant, crowded refugee camp for all practical purposes, by attempting to make it a prison for its people, has made everything far worse and had helped Hamas to power, but the engine that powers this regional conflict remains, IMO, Israeli policy towards the West Bank and the series of far-right Israeli governments.

Funny how many Israeli supporters thought Russia was on the wrong when they whopped on a much bigger state actor. Yet they see nothing wrong with Israel using Gaza for target practice.

Without playing the moral equivalence game, both Israeli and Palestinian politicians have mastered the art of goading the other side into action, and then crying crocodile tears to the rest of the world.

The Palestinians have no viable leader, and Israel is seizing upon it. I wonder if Israel politicians realize the end game does not favor them. Anything to win an election, I guess...

As opposed to the declared intentions of Hamas et. al.?

I mean, Hamas (and Fatah, and most of the rest of the Moslem Middle East) hate the Jews, and are determined to kill them all. The only real difference between Fatah and Hamas is that Fatah says "we want peace" in English and "kill the Jews" in Arabic, while Hamas says "kill the Jews" in both English and Arabic. The Hamas charter calls for the destruction of Israel, and they have never ceased to strike at them whenever they can. The Israelis certainly are willing to goad - so they are not saints here either, but if they are attacked they won't tolerate it forever, and will strike back.

This is far more fundamental a problem than west bank policy. Since isreal's inception arab countries have systematically deported or exterminated all jews from their lands while simultaneously forcing palestinians into refugee camps to be used as pawns in the ongoing muslim crusade against isreal. Peace is impossible as long as muslim groups are specifically organized with the goal to prevent it.
