Well, what the US did during WWII would be considered war crimes, if we are to judge based on accepted international norms in the post-WWII era. Moreover, Germany and Japan were also guilty of 'war crimes'. Therefore, I am not sure that WWII is a good 'measuring stick'.

HRW have accused both Hezbollah and Israel of violating international law; it's difficult for me to argue otherwise.

It is probably more accure to say that as a result of the allied bombing campaigns in WWII the guidelines were changed to make similar bombings potentially criminal in the future. Nor do I think it is reasonable to equate Nazi and Japanese war crimes with allied bombing campaigns.

...which is why I made the following qualifier: "if we are to judge based on accepted international norms in the post-WWII era."

How so? I didn't state they were all guilty of systematic genocide, I said they committed what the world today would consider 'war crimes'.

How would you classify the carpet-bombing and nuclear-bombing of cities?

...which is why I pointed out that we wouldn't judge those actions based on today's standards. However, German and Japanese actions were war crimes then, and now.

I'm not sure what's confusing. You equate the two as both having committed war crimes.

Every major Islamic fascist leader, from heads of states to heads of al Qaeda and Hezbollah, has openly identified the United States as their prime target, and repeatedly promises the creation of a new, global, “caliphate” where Islamic fascism will rule mankind...That is a threat and the whole point of a post 9/11 world...That is where the patriot act and electronic intelligence must be assessed as tools to counter. We never fought an enemy who would work around conventions, and expose our weaknesses with the goal of destroying Americans. As the old survival motto goes: Adapt or DIE!

I think liberals have a great home natured sense of things, but IMO I don't count on the post-Kennedy democrats to handle my protection. No thank you...

In addition, If we have learned anything from the 20th century,...It's that when a nation leader threatens to wipe millions off the map. We need to take that seriously...The leader of Iran is very comparable to Hitler in that he vows to wipe Israel off the map. He instills fear of the youth in his land to abide, by employing forces who monitor out of line activity, such as being with a boy or listening to music. Of course, how can he spread Islamic facism with Israel being entrenched? It's only a matter of time...

The brightside in all this turmoil caused by Hezbollah is that the microscope is upon Iranian government as the "root"...Time to kill the "root",...no?

Also, what I was getting at is that I think it is highly possible that Hezbollah wants Israel to kill Lebanon citizens. It is a calculated, tactical move by them to make Israel look bad. That's why the use the human shields and move into populated areas etc. In this way they have killed just as citizens.

My response showed your logic to be fallacious and unworthy of an 'answer'.

I'll try the analogy approach again for you... 3 robbers assault your family killing one, then you kill the remaining 3. Are you at fault?

Who gets killed more often, criminals or police?

Your question was too simplistic and proves nothing.

i am so sick and tired of this human sheilds argument. where the hell do you expect these people to live?

the guerillas in every war are around people because they are FROM the people. thats the whole point. they have to fight an overwhelming force which they simply can't compete with in a conventional war. however since they are native and they have the support of the masses (in this case many shias) they are able to hold their own...to a degree.

hezbollah members aren't foreigners. they are primarily shias who live in shia towns. so they aren't using people as 'sheilds' they are simply living their life.

secondly israeli's lack of differenciation between hezbollah's military and political/social welfare wings is incredibly disingenuous. israel is claiming to have killed 500 hezbollah members. which might be true if you include everyone who dies at a hezbollah funded hospital or hezbollah funded mosque. but if i just got blown up i dont really give a rats ass which hospital you take me to.

oh. and good job killing 40 farmers. and a truck driver in a christian city transporting diesel.

Then why should the "masses" cry about getting killed is that's what they support? But I guess you are right, Hezbollah doesn't want shields, they want martyrs.

I don't understand why some of you guys don't get it. We are not in the 1930's where you battle it out in the field. Times have changed. You can’t expect Hezbollah to fight against the Israel army on a field, it would be suicide. In my opinion they have to set up a battle for close combat, it’s the only way they can survive. Plus, I doubt that they want their own civilians to die, these guys aren’t monsters like the group that caused 9/11; some of you guys are mixing up your Muslim extremist groups (I’m not saying that they are innocent, but Israel and Hezbollah have been going at it for some time…minor incidents…strange that you hear a very one sided story in the western media, both sides in my opinion are screwed up.)

It looks like whatever they are doing is suicide to me.

So they wont fight in the open, yet the population isnt being used as shileds? Which is it? You can't have it both ways.

I wont go as far to call Hezbollah monsters, pure evil etc., but I have absoluelty no repsect for their actions.

You're always highly 'selective', Hayes, you never cease to amaze me...

But yes, you're right, the nuclear-bombing of entire cities were not atrocities.
