boy, excellent post about the Barak offer. I remember comments to that effect at the time, but seeing the pictures with the comment makes it all so clear. I guess they just couldn't stand the truth about this offer, which is seldom presented in the US media so no one responded to the excellent maps and arguments about Barak's "generous offer". In this thread they preferred to deal with red herrings about Israel's desire to nuke or not everyone or spurious cliams that "all Palestinians or Israelis are devils or angels etc., whether Kuwait is a democracy etc. Usually they prefer to hide between their twin charges that all of us who don't support current Israeli positons : 1) want to completely eliminate the state of Israel and 2) we hate Jews and are anti-semitic. In a way these twin charges when repeated often enough are relatively effective for the general public, which isn't focused on this issue. On these threads devoted to the issue the continual repetition of these two charges is just weak as it can be easily seen that except for Q8 or rompa the twin charges are just evasions.
Glynch, Where does it say that I support Israel and its policies? I think they are both wrong and if it were up to me, I would tell Israel to do some real bargaining or risk losing ALL of your aid IMMEDIATELY. DaDakota
Dakota,in light of your post I stand corrected at least regarding you. It is too bad you and I and others can't have a discussion of the details of the two state solution without the crazy charges I mentioned and the input from the two who give some credence to the charges. Q8 and rompa, their mirror images and those who just scream they don't want to discuss the issue seem to dominate the threads on this issue. As I have stated from the outset, I have remained silent on this issue for many years given the ferocity of Jewish and Arab hardliners, but I do think tht 911 gives an additonal urgency to addressing this issue. If not on this board, perhaps somewhere else. The reason why I focus on the excesses of the Israelis is that I figure that this is propped up by US politics and misperceptions and that I can have some small input on public opinion in this country. Despite the general craziness and unpleasantness on the bbs whenever the topic is mentioned, I have been directed to several useful sites including the one cited by boy above. Peace
I Agree Very Much with DaDakota, I think both sides have a tendency of pointing out the others faults, and not having the courage or determination to change their own. I honestly don't think Israel is going anywhere. I think there are atrocities on both sides, and two wrongs really don't make a right. Obviously the Palestinians will never settle till they get true Self Determination......which has caused uprisings since the beginning of time. Just like the Jews will never leave Israel and even if they do, it becomes the same problem from a reverse side. Now if the Palestinians were to kick the jews out, how could they do that in a right conscience seeing how they've been claiming injustice for decades? Complicated problem....
