So what's your stance on the Prophet's grave in Masjid Al Nabwi? Would it be OK to demolish that area of the Masjid and lay down prayer rugs so there's more room for people to pray?

Just cuz their immediate families aren't around doesn't mean other people don't want to make dua for the Sahabas. They are revered people in Islam, the whole Ummah would pray for them. That's why we have a dua that is to be said every time we pass by a graveyard for all the people resting in them. It's kind of difficult to argue with you since you don't believe in ahadith.

First, I agree with Mathloom that cemeteries are a waste of space, and in a place like Israel, room to bury people is rare and expensive.

Still...building a "Museum of Tolerance" on top of Muslim graves is seriously offensive. In Israel, people freak out if you go out to bury telephone cable and hit some Roman pottery shards. They'll close the area off for a year and call in the archeologists. It's very hypocritical to do this in the Old City of all places, and its very best, is in INCREDIBLY poor taste.

I'm not a huge fan of Simon Wisenthal's personal history (his history is pretty sketchy, taking credit for post WW2 Nazi captures that the Mossad did) nor am I a fan of the Museum of Tolerance in LA. They have a history of some pretty hypocritical statements and questionable moves and while this doesn't surprise me, it's a terrible, terrible move.

This is all true but honestly does the Israeli government hire Lebron James's PR people or something?

This is just unnecessary negative publicity for a government that already struggles with finding good will anywhere.

Oh yes? "Steve_Francis_rules", then describe that history. What do you want? I criticized what they are doing because it seems insensitive to me. Some idiot comes and makes hypothetical assumptions about what I would have said if it was the other way around. Would I have said "very insensitive"? What is the point? Now you are getting up in arms even when I agree with you?

You, "Steve_Francis_rules", have been following me around, making stupid comments, and this is no exception. Unless you have something of substance to say, go hit the tipjar after 11 years and be quiet.

And by the way, in this thread, I applaud Mathloom's posts.

Mathloom, are you the guy who is behind the banning of blackberries in Dubai? :)

    1) If there was a better use for that land, yes. Realistically, one grave doesn't get in the way of anything.

    2) Who told you that you can only do a Dua on a grave? Say the dua when you pass by a graveyard. But you don't keep a graveyard for eternity just to make Dua.

    3) I believe in ahadith, I just don't blindly follow one part of them (Sunni) like an instruction booklet and do not put blind faith in the words of humans.

    Now my turn:

    A) If the Prophet PBUH was watching and he saw where he is buried, how he is buried, and what people do around his grave, how do you think he would react?

    B) Can I build a mosque and be buried in it or next to it so that my family and their descendants come and make dua for me forever? Yes, the Prophet PBUH is different from me, however, I am pretty sure that God's law applies to him and me the same in this case.

    C) Is it possible that there are significant errors in Bukhari's Sahih ahadith?

I'll give you one hint for all the questions and answers: human.

Agreed, it's a very very bad move. Not one worth violence or gigantic protests or anything, but definitely a bad move.

Btw, room to bury people is not rare in Israel. Maybe in Jerusalem, but not Israel. There is lots of space in Israel if I'm not mistaken.

    Link?

I honestly have no idea what you're talking about

Edit: I just read the post.

I was initially angered by the "ban" lol but now that I know the options (ban or micro-monitoring) I don't really care! haha

It's not banned btw. I'm pretty sure they'll find a solution before the deadline, just a matter of negotiation. With India making demands, the UAE just has to follow the leader lol

They do this **** all the time. I can think of at least 6 instances reported in the American press over the years. They dont give a **** about respecting Christian or Muslim Palestinians' rights.

The Dome of the Rock is built over the Second Temple. Solomon's temple may or may not have been there since there isn't any architectural evidence for the 1st temple and the only references is the Judeo-Christian Bible.

They didn't demolish or uproot **** like the Israelis are doing though, the Romans destroyed the temple long before Islam existed (like nearly a millennium before I think)

Don't fool yourself into thinking that this is purely directed at Arabs or Muslims. They do this to jewish cemetaries all the time.

    Here's one example:

I didn't mean do Dua ON a grave. That's what I meant, when you pass by a graveyard. I'm sure you're familiar with the Dua "Assalamu'alayka ahla al diaryi...."

As for the sahih hadith part, we could go back and forth all our lives on it. And no, I don't believe there are significant errors in Bukhari's Sahih Hadith.

I'm sure the Prophet PBUH would not be worried about where he is buried because he was laid to rest in what was at first Aisha's house. Much later, when they expanded the Masjid, it incorporated Aisha's house as well. But if you've been there, there is no direct area behind the 3 graves where you can pray towards them. Plus, they have 2 cops and 1 sheikh present there at all times to 1. make ppl move along faster when they come to give their salaams and 2. make sure ppl don't do or say anything wrong out loud.

Anyway, this thread is more about how the Israelis decided to just come and take over more land that belongs to the Palestinians.

That makes it all the more worse. Treating their own people like that.

I thought this was interesting from that article you posted:

    This is just pathetic.
