Though I question the implementation of the State of Israel and techniques following the creation, I have never questioned its 'right to exist'. That is not for me to question, as I am not Jewish, Israeli or a Zionist. I feel that a palatable solution could be a return to the 67 borders so there will not be an occupied people that will attack Israel in the form of Suicide bombings. Do I feel this will eliminate the problem of violence on both sides? No. There will be Palestinian Extremists that want all of Israel as well as Israeli extremists that want all the land until the river Jordan. It is the job of the masses to control the fringe. I just think the continuous creation of settlements is displacing more people and creating a situation ripe for the emergence of another generation of angry, humiliated people that could eventually turn to violence. If the Wall was being created on the 1967 borders, I would not have a problem with it, but its cutting right through the middle to defend settlements. I feel that the US holds the key because of its financial support. If we in the US cut our support or limit it, they will not be able to defend the financially infeasible settlements and will be forced to settle. I think if we allow violence to stifle the peace process then we are letting the extremists like Hamas and Sharon win.

Confounding the issue is a widely recognized negotiation strategy, which is to not relinquish anything w/o something in return (which I find repugnant anyway... to fix things for the long-term, you do what's 'right', not what's self-serving in the short-term). Cool chick, I too am confused about your point with the children. Suicide bombers kill women and children who have nothing to do with the settlements, all the time. It also makes it harder for the international community to aid the Palestinians. Just look at the support that exists in Europe for the Palestinian cause. If the terrorist groups weren't bombing and killing innocents that support could be turned into real and action. They could legitimately point out that a peaceful people are having their land stolen, their families broken apart, living under a system which denys them basic rights and any chance to get power. Money, perhaps the UN, and all kinds of aid would flow in to the Palestinians. I don't agree with Israel's policies twards the Palestinians nor the way they respond to terrorist attacks. But as long as there are terrorist attacks Israel can always claim that the injustice and murder they commit is in response to terrorism. Don't give Israel that excuse anymore.
