Why kick them out? Israel has a lot of land. They could allow right of return, agree to monetary assistance to build homes for the Palestinians on undeveloped land, and attempt to integrate them into their secular, democratic state. The one caveat, though, is that Israel considers Palestinians a "demographic problem". Israel needs to have a large Jewish majority, so they need to keep out the Palestinians who've been pushed into refugee camps in Gaza and the West Bank.

I think a pragmatic solution in which Israel agrees to a large economic stimulus program for Palestinian refugees within West Bank and Gaza to "encourage" them to stay there could also make sense. But the basic right of return should be acknowledged and accepted. In my view, that right supercedes Israel's "right" to maintain a large Jewish majority.

Sounds good to me. Israel might still have time for the two state solution if they could go back to the pre 1967 borders or damn close to it with security. The fact that this would be a clear painful defeat for the Israeli strategy of the last 40 years is what perhaps would make it work.

Obviously the goal of the Israeli leaders--if not the population who is manipulated constantly by Holocaust fears, much like Bush-Cheny used 9/11 to manipulate Americans-- is to grind the Palestinians down and have a weak Palestinian leader sign off on a deal that would give a weak little dependent statelet or two with borders, air space and probably water and perhaps even electricity all dependent on Israel's whims.
