    *shrug*

It's a pathetic waste of time and money for the music and movie industries. It's been shown time and again that disabling p2p sharing nexuses just results in a hydra effect of spinning off MORE of the same. There will always be an unending supply of morally ambiguous, technologically talented individuals out there who will gladly step in to fill the void.

They should be spending their energy trying to work with these big sites that have developed a brand to try bring in some income.

The surest sign of a dying industry is when it would rather litigate than innovate.

The government is not going to go anywhere with this. These sites will always pop up. This is a battle that they cannot win.

Same with crime on the streets, there is nothing you can do to prevent someone from murdering someone else if they show no signs of mental health symptoms.

They are wasting money with stupid programs like this.

Wow, so since they can't really stop crime, they shouldn't even try at all. Yall are probably the same people that b**** about people crossing the border illegally to find a better living. Oh sure its fine and dandy to download movies and music but when a person tries to cross the border in order to find work to support his family, OH HELL NO. LETS BUILD WALLS AND KEEP THOSE ****ERS OUT!!! But hey, this is a battle the cannot win. You build walls, and they'll just find another way over. They should stop wasting their money on something like this and let them come over.

Wow, did you just pit one flawed comparison against another flawed comparison?

In just two steps we got to: Downloading software/music/movies (which physically harms no one) that affect copyright law = murder on the streets = illegal aliens crossing the border

    What's next?

Blank discs cost $.90 and you can go out and buy 1000 if you want. You aren't paying for discs, you are paying for content. Artists or all kind work on film and television and piracy hurts the business and every one in it.

I'd respect your opinion if you acknowledged that. It's so annoying when people do what they want because it suits them best and just assume inward and outwardly that it's only hurting rich fat cats. You are only hurting the CEO and CFOs. Where exactly do you get that from?

As someone who works as and for a content creation company that has to deal with sites like daily motion, veoh and youtube, I have a sked opinion as you, (someone who doesn't work as a content creator and just a comsumer) have an oppositely skewed opinion).

I'm not sure if everyone who downloads are in the same boat, but a majority of them wouldn't even go to movies to watch it in theater even IF downloading them was impossible. Make a good movie, and people will go pay to see it it's that simple. I'm an avid movie watcher, and i've downloaded my fair share, but if the movie looks good I'll go see it in theater. If it's a crappy movie i'll just go find it online. Most of the time new releases are bootleg anyway and it looks like crap.

wow did you completely miss his point. people want to do illegal **** that they feel should be legal but want to complain when the gov't doesn't enforce laws that they don't break

nothing's more funny on this site than people arguing they have a free right to other people's work who do that work for money. WTF?

It always amuses me when I read posts on message boards like "uhhh that's not what he meant" or "dude you gotta work on your reading comprehension LOLZ."

The Internet sure has some strange, sensitive people on it.

so you think we should have a free right to people's work that wasn't meant to be free because it doesn't physically harm anyone?

You are mistaken if you think that's why I insinuated. The simple argument is it's overboard to compare something that doesn't harm people physically to something that involves death and another that involves completety separate social opinion and ramifications.

The argument that the government is doing it "when convenient" is silly, but it is some people's explanation for why they think they are right.

I'm actually not attacking either side, but certainly I can agree that taking someone else's work without compensation is "wrong" (that's without looking at who else is "wrong" as well in the process to justify any of it).

I have downloaded software that I have deemed interesting and if I like what I see I'll go out and purchase a legit copy. Obviously software versus music versus movies/television are entirely different for the end user, but each person is going to have their own opinion or justification until sone "compromise" or better protection can be developed.

    Direct downloads

I don't bother with torrenting big movies anymore. There are tons of boards out there with users that upload directly to rapidshare/megaupload/etc

A lot of the argument has to do with the fact that artists don't see much of the profits from their own work. It all goes to the fat-cat executives who keep pumping out crap like the Nicklebacks, Britneys, and Jonas Bros. of the world.
