Please do not be a Sikhophobe. If I had said "it's a pretty violent religion" about Islam, the usual suspects would already be tripping over themselves to call me a Nazi and Hitler again... Did anyone say it should not be investigated?
It wouldn't be the first time a Sikh was mistaken for a Muslim. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Balbir_Singh_Sodhi I have no idea if that was the case recently. Sadly some people also pre-judge based on folks who have beards.
Seriously, If this is a hate crime, I doubt the assholes really confused a Sikh with a Muslim. In their mind, any middle eastern looking person with a headwrap is a terrorist
how do we know it's a "hate crime" (which is a stupid term, imo but that's another discussion) and not an opposing senior citizen gang for the neighboring retirement community?
Wouldn't not distinguishing be the essence of confusing? ... on a side note, I love how the PC police come out and start name-calling... hang in there ATW! You may or may not be pre-occupied but thank you for not just ignoring the events of the day. I find it ironic that people are more proportionally more concerned about the two men shot here than the many that were injured and killed abroad a few weeks ago... oh yeah, they were Christians, I think.
more concern? based on what? All though it certainly makes more sense to be more concerned with what's happening in your own backyard, unless of course you are bigoted against Muslims.
I'm sorry man but I'm going to have to call you out on this. ATW may be pretty obtuse and uncompromising, but I wouldn't expect someone of his intelligence to be a part of this stupidity... Glen Beck on the other hand...
I think it's a rule that they always carry a sword of some type. Obviously, the ones in North America can't really do that. This is a sad story. Some Sikhs were killed right after 9/11 so I wouldn't be surprised if it's the same type of "mistake" made by some ignortant fools. Muslim and Sikhs always have issues with each other in India. Sikhs can eat any type of meat except halal (zabiha). I remember there was a curfew the last time I went to India in a nearby town because of some killings.
You missed the word "proportionally." That mob/army was estimated at 4,000; this was 4 assholes in/on a pickup truck. Guess who did more hurtin'? Nice try on the innuendo...
Muslim-Sikh disputes really trace back to partition when they split Punjab. In turn both sides killed each other in a series of massacres. One of the saddest things was the decline of Lahore which went from a progressive and very liberal multi-religious city to a city that descended into religious violence on unimaginable scales. As for sikhs being mistaken for Muslims, it happened to my friend on 9/11. I was walking to class (Bellaire High School) with a sikh friend (who had the turban and beard) and some douchebag walks out and calls us towelheads (among other insults) and then another kid threw a book at him. I later found out that he had basketballs thrown at him outside when he was walking up the basketball court. The sad part is that neither of us actually knew 9/11 happened when we were confronted. I only found out when I made it to my next class and saw the tv on.
It also happened to a Sikh friend of mine who wanted to take a flight a day or two after 9/11 (from NYC). He wrote an article about it in some magazine.
It's terrible this happened to you, but most hate crimes in America, by a huge margin, are against Jews. http://www.sfexaminer.com/blogs/beltway-confidential/surprise-more-hate-crimes-against-christians-against-muslims Basically, you should prefer people assume you're Muslim in this country (as opposed to Jewish) if your desire is to avoid being the victim of a hate crime.
Very interesting info. I looked at the FBI statistics from the link in the article - they don't record the religion of the perpetrators. Would be interesting to know who commits these hate crimes against Jews. Who hates them the most nowadays?
Wait, I don't get it... what does asking "who hates Jews the most nowadays" have to do with this thread? You do realize what the natural inference of your post's implication is going to be, right? Frankly, even I find it to be transparent. Your post comes across as underhanded and mocking, and I'm sure you're going to act surprised and "disgusted" when you inevitably catch flak for it.
Ugh, the worst part about trolls is that they bait people into quoting them, so even people who have them on ignore can't escape from the trollishness.
You should be banned. There's no reason for this level of slander. You are the true merchant of hate, in this case. NEG REP
Did you look at the statistics? They list the religious background of the victims (about 9 times more Jews than Muslims), which bias is the reason for the attack (anti-Jewish about 8 times more than anti-Muslim), but they don't list the religious background of the perpetrators of these hate crimes. In the context of this thread, people were very quick to jump to the conclusion that the crime reported in the OP must have been anti-Muslim, thereby automatically implying - as a "natural inference of their posts' implication" - that the perpetrators, of course, could not have been Muslims. Do you consider these assumptions about the religious background of the perpetrators "underhanded and mocking"? Why do you think that making assumptions about the perpetrators of the alleged hate crime reported in the OP is perfectly fine (as many have done in this thread), but consider my question about who the perpetrators are in the anti-Jewish crimes "underhanded and mocking"? In one case, assumptions are allowed, in the other case even a question is not allowed? Double standard much? What do you hear more about in the media nowadays? Alleged "Islamophobia" or hate crimes against Jews? What kind of lobbyism is at work here?
