OK, then they have no chance to establish residency in their birthplace. Happy?
They are allowed to visit? It may take longer to get a visa, but they do not outright deny visas if the applicant is from Pakistan.

When it can take well over a year to obtain a visa, they might as well outright deny people of Pakistani origin.

It can take over a year for an American to get a visa to India even if both his/her parents were born there.

Over a year?! That's crazy. It takes US-born American citizens, whose parents were born in Pakistan, just a couple of days to get a Pakistani visa.

It depends on the time year and a lot of other factors (how long since the parents emigrated, last time they visited, etc). India has a billion plus people to manage as well. From what I've heard though, American visas are the hardest/longest to receive.

It's pretty unfortunate, hopefully one day that will change.

Here's a picture from the Gilgit-Baltistan region of Pakistan:

Oh I agree it has its beautiful parts. My wife is Pakistani and has been to Gilgit, etc.

I'm just playing, but yeah...they would have to stabilize the country for any non-Pakis to really wanna go there. If countries like India and Pakistan can put aside their differences and concentrate on education, tourism, infrastructure, etc. the whole area would see a HUGE economic boom.

But hey lets play Allah vs. Vishnu. Its more fun.

Is it dangerous at all to go here?

If it's fairly safe, I'm thinking of going soon.

    Looks awesome. Repped.

Fudge: You must spread some Reputation around before giving it to s land balla again.

How come I've had this spreading reputation problem for so long now.

    My thoughts exactly.

Or we could go with the whole pigs blood and heads on spikes thing. Surely, that must be the more intelligent thing to do. ;)

The last time I was in Pakistan, my uncle had planned everything for my cousins and I to visit Gilgit, Skardu, etc. in the Baltistan region, but unfortunately the flights to Skardu from Islamabad are very unpredictable.

Since the flight has to make its way through some of the tallest peaks on earth, flight conditions have to be pretty much perfect in order for the flight to take off (read: no fog, clear skies). With that said, our flight was canceled three times in a row and I never made it there after all.

I'm planning on trying again sometime this year. The Pakistan-China border along the KKH opens on May 1 of every year (once the snow melts), so I'm hoping to go by road this time along the KKH, from Lahore all the way through Baltistan, and then into western China.

As for safety, the region is relatively safe in terms of terrorism, as it's in Northern Pakistan, rather than Northwest Pakistan (far closer to China than it is to Afghanistan).

There are some incredible pictures of the region on Flickr if you're interested.

Are the terrorists attacks done in the name of Islam more violent? What exactly is considered a terrorist attack? Also be curious to know what the dead body count ratio would be amongst those groups.

This the way I see it. There are two types of muslims. Modern muslims and extremist muslims. EVERYONE is better off without the extremist group.
