Apparently it was two kids involved......in some grafitti.....ooooooh.....such a crime.

And shouldn't everyone be bothered that CAIR - a group linked to the terrorist organization Hamas is giving the presentation?

Also, apparently the issue was between TWO students, they should have taken them aside and dealt with the issue......what a PC world we live in....ugh.

The writings were in Greek but who knows when they were written? They might very well be translations from the time of Christ, most of the Gospels were written years after Jesus too, IIRC.

That is a church I would attend.

More info about Robin Lowe the principal

"I can't understand those of you who think this "presentation" was okay. My child is in 8th grade at Friendswood Junior High. I asked him what he thought about the "talk" from the CAIR women. He said he laughed through most of what was said and it actually had the opposite affect on him that was obviously intended. Friendswood is a wonderful town with good people. Most are highly educated. The point is not that we are prejudiced it is that what Robin Lowe did was against school policy, the law, and she did it with total disregard of what the parents might want. I have no problem with my child learning about different cultures and religions but that was not the intention of this incident. It was purely because Robin Lowe's sister is Muslim and so she did this for personal reasons. I don't believe all Muslims are evil people. There are evil people in all religions. But I will teach my child these things, I don't need or want forced religious teachings of any type from our schools. If I wanted that I would have put him in private school."

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------
She was explicitly told not to involve the students and she did so anyway. She is blaming it on "miscommunication." I don't believe it for a moment.

Why wasn't the situation between the two students, one of whom is supposed to be Muslim, handled between the two kids and their families? Why bring the entire school into the melee?

This principal can't handle a simple instruction, yet she is promoted to Curriculum Coordinator? I wonder what will be included in the curriculum from now on.

Dr. No stated she was receiving death threats at the hands of Christians. Are you sure? Were they identifying themselves as Christians?

Why couldn't the kids have heard an uplifting talk from a speaker that said no one should be targeted for what they believe? Why did it have to be presented by CAIR? Look at the many other things they have put out. What seems innocent in the school presentation may have more kids researching CAIR. They'll find out what they are really about and it's the fault of this principal.

It's ignorance that led to her reassignment. She was ignorant in not following her instructions to keep the kids out of it all.

Sounds like she got what she deserved.

If I paint a swastika on a Jewish synagogue, it's just graffiti, right?
If I paint a noose on an African-American's home, it's just graffiti right?

    Damn PC Police...

i don't mean the language they were written in. we know who wrote most of the gnostic gospels. we know where they were found and where they were never found. we know the teachings of the greek churches that adopted these ideas. and we know that the earliest writings we have harken back to even earlier writings and accepted beliefs that fly in the face of gnosticism. we know that judaism and gnosticism are absolutely at odds. you can't claim the argument of logical history and ignore things like that.

you've heard the sensational side of this argument, but i'm not sure you've ever given the other side equal time. that's your choice, of course. but pick up a New Testament scholar's work...someone real. Someone like N.T. Wright, for example, who looks at this from a different perspective than the one found on spinning skull websites.

So deal with the people who committed the act, they knew who it was, and it was an issue between two students?

Why allow a group that sponsors the terrorist organization Hamas to come in and speak about the Tolerance.....talk about hypocrisy.

This is the problem sometimes those websites still have good information. Of course you consider the source, but to simply ignore a viewpoint because of an artistic choice of a website is as close minded as what you are accusing me of being.

I've not ignored those websites. I've read them every time you've posted them. You're certainly not the first person to present those items to me.

I am not religious. I'd categorize myself as agnostic\atheist. Regardless, I think this kind of thing is good for kids. I have zero problem with my kids learning about different religions and hope that they do. I want them to learn about as much as they can and make their own decision. I don't push anything I believe (or don't believe) unless they ask and even then I tell them to become as educated about everything as they can and make their own decision.

In my area, I have looked very hard. Would you really like me to list everybody I know and have attended church with up here or people I have talked to and some of the things they have told me about their church?

No. I'm not asking you to do that. Just asking the question. It's my understanding you're agnostic or atheist. Am I wrong?

I agree with this but I understand that some parents do not want this done without being notified or asked first. Is it really that hard? Send a letter through mail or home with the students to notify and then go from there.

I remember in my 12th grade world culture class the school made our teacher send a letter home to our parents in order to watch the movie "Schindler's List" not because of its content but because of its rating. Everybody in class got permission to view. Was a letter that hard to send out and get returned? No.

I consider myself agnostic but when asked or invited to join a family member or friend at church I have never turned them down UNLESS I have been with them before and did not like what was being preached or discussed among the congregation. I try as open-minded as possible but every one I have been to up here in my area (and my city hold the nickname "City of Churches") has let me down.

Like I said, I can list specific examples of things that have happened if you want.

Like I said, I'm not asking for that. Was just asking the question.

So were you thinking because of my beliefs that I just did not try?

I am really an open-minded person about everything. I try to view all situations, questions, concerns, problems, etc. from all angles and not just from my viewpoint or what I believe.

Ahh...more stupid generalizations and complete fabrication of facts to justify your very ill-informed beliefs. You clearly have absolutely no idea about the history of early Islamic civilizations or Andalucia or Muslim contributions to science to be making that outright ridiculous statement. It's not offensive, it's just plain wrong. Your lack of knowledge about generic history is just outright offensive. In fact, it's the only thing I find graveolent about you, not your 'opinions'.

Seriously, you're a lot less 'enlightened' than you think you are. It's hilarious to me that you continue to hold up your "non-religious" affiliation as some indication of your 'enlightenment'. I have one quick suggestion for you: get over yourself. You can barely debate issues here based on facts, and when presented with facts you turn around and regurgitate your "strong beliefs" over and over again without any real substance.

It really has nothing to do with your beliefs or opinions or lack thereof, it's just that the way your present your arguments is incredibly weak and intellectually lacking. If you were one of my students, you would never get past any of my classes, purely because of lack of intellectual rigor.

Who said it does? May be some followers of the religion do, but name me one religion that has completely hindered its followers from scientific advances since its founding. If we're talking purely about Islam, I can quickly list you at least ten Koranic verses that command (not suggest, but command) Muslims to pursue knowledge and learn about the world around them. Or name you hundreds of Muslim scientists over the course of history. But it would be a futile attempt in trying to have a productive debate with someone who isn't interested in one. Your only interest is to state your "strongly held opinions" ad nauseam.

Tiger for fun you might want to read this Discover article

Byline: All over the world, no matter what the cultural or language differences, science is more or less guided by scientific principles—except in many Islamic countries, where it is guided by the Koran. This is the ultimate story about science and religion.

Middle Eastern countries used to be the center of scientific study.

    Not anymore.....

Islam in some Middle Eastern countries is in the way of scientific advances now.

And funny how everyone has avoided talking about the CAIR link to Hamas......
