Yeah, I have to agree with you here. Somebody on the corporate ass-clown board o' directors at these companies needs to grow a pair.

South Park rips EVERYTHING and EVERYONE. The creators don't discriminate. They literally tear into everyone. Their type of humor may not be to some's liking, but one thing they do have is the perfect sense of humor.

I remember when one of the creators said something like "It's only when we choose not to make fun of something that we become bigots." Because how can you rip on one thing but then say, "Oh we can't touch this topic."

Oh, and the whole "It's not a threat, it's just a warning" thing is bull. That's like me saying, "Hey man, I'm warning you, I know where you live and work, and I have a gun. It's happened before bro, just warning you."

    Give me a break.

Bad move by Comedy Central imo. If someone doesn't like it, just change the channel.

But then you get into, why can't the KKK have anti-african american parades. Or maybe they can but should I just "not watch"?

Where do you draw the line?

    This is some stupid garbage.

How about this: You can touch the topic, but you choose not to because you are not an unfunny attention w****.

Is it really that hard? Why do people have to poke the biggest beehives then hide behind a bunch of angry rednecks screaming "FREEDOM"? And don't give me some **** like "It's for progress" and embarrass yourself. Tackling universal suffrage, civil rights, corruption, pollution, etc head on, that's progress. Not "hey can we make stupid depictions of religious figures for entertaining man children".

Paker has proven that he can write quality material without resorting to this kind of stuff, maybe he should watch some older episodes of his own show and work harder.

The beehive (= you) is the problem, not the one who pokes it.

I disagree ATW. As much as I love/support free speech, I'm also keenly aware of the dangers of retaliation by a group of religious extremists and the possibilities of moderate Americans shifting further to the right/anti-Islam were the SP creators to be harmed in any way. Now, this may confirm your (DD + durvasa too) underlying secularist belief of Islam/religion maybe being a bad and violent thing which needs to be fixed, but for South Park to poke this beehive is too risky and early for this period in history.

This is like taunting someone in America inches from their face. When the person inevitably succumbs to their emotions and lashes out at you, they're the ones charged with assault. Yes, you have every right to say whatever you want, but don't rely on this modern man-made construct of freedom of speech to protect you from the physical/state of nature elements that can creep out from people that are not as educated/progressive/tolerant as you.

The Muslim world has been undergoing a state of crisis for more than a century. Its mostly socio-economic problems needs to be resolved before any democratic traditions like freedom of speech can be embraced. Jesus is one of the VIP prophets in Islam but few extremists lifted a finger at his depictions. Obviously it's not a religious thing but human frustrations stemming from poverty/failed nationalism/etc. that have latched on to the idea of Muhd like in places such as Egypt where liberalism/secularism failed after 1952.

That is excactly what I tought. No way CC censured the entire final speach of Kyle and Santa and Jesus. I think it is just a hoax. I think they wanted this attention and therefor did all this editing. it just suits the style of South park.

That being said those that threat with violance are idiots.
I think people are offended way to fast. I really do not understand why people get offended with these portrails. They are funny (and even if you think it is not funy, they are meant to be funny). I can sort of understand that people got offended by theo van Gogh, he was just an idiot who wanted to insult people (ofcourse he didn't deserve getting killed).

I think you shouldn't try to hurt people (with words or otherwise) but people should have a thicker skin.

I think that there is nothing people can say that would insult me or hurt my feelings (since most insulting things that can be said are not true, so why pay attention to it).

Wrong wrong WRONG. Why would South Park be allowed to make fun of Buddha, Jesus, etc., but not of Mohammed? WHY? If anything, they should make MORE fun of Mohammed because it exposes the fact that there are elements in the Muslim world that are MUCH more intolerant than followers of the aforementioned religions.

    No it is not.

    "Inevitably" my ass.

What? "Physical/state of nature"? These idiots need to LEARN TOLERANCE. And if South Park helps that process, that's a good thing.

I am tired of the socio-economic excuse, because those people who issued the threats live in the United States. Some of the terrorists from the past (like the kid that tried to blow up a plane a few months ago but failed) did not grow up in poor conditions. The only common denominator was that they did it in the name of Islam, not that they were all poor.

    See above.

Its so easy to get a rise out of these extreme muslims nowadays.
That insecurity makes them so incredibly sensitive to any statements
    regarding Muhammad.

I remember when a 'fatwa' was actually intimidating!

    just watched Episode 201.
It definitely sucks what Comedy Central did. The censoring and bleeping definitely ruined the show..

    [rquoter] including a drug-snorting Buddha [/rquoter]

Trey Parker and Matt Stone better be prepared for some Buddhist to go Shao Lin on their @sses!
    ;)

I've skimmed this thread and this seems like a mountain out of a molehill. We are talking about 20 guys on the internet beyatching about that but not large protests or anything like the Danish cartoons. While yes there is always the possibility that these 20 guys might be able to carry out a threat at the moment they can't even protect their own website.
